The “women’s march” that’s all about the men.

I couldn’t see a thread about this, but I’m just here to share how annoying it is to see a so-called women’s march so concerned with placating men. This is the march in January.

As well as the highly predictable “this is for all women” (meaning including the ones who are men) and the ‘we don’t tolerate transphobia’ (meaning any concept of sex-based oppression), the Facebook group is full of posts reassuring men that of course they’re welcome and it’s not all men and obviously “not my Nigel”. It’s infuriating. Why do people do this?

It’s notable what they consider to be ‘transphobic’ and ‘GC’ views. Variously:- objecting to violent offenders attending a women’s march; objecting to women not being warned about the said offender’s attendance; wearing suffragette colours; mentioning uteri in the context of a march that claims opposition to restrictions on abortion (spoiler, a prerequisite for ever possibly needing abortion access is a uterus); supporting specialist charities that offer single sex care to traumatised women even when those charities ensure that transwomen are referred to other agencies.

I suspect most ordinary women would be surprised that these aren’t just normal, mainstream views and behaviours, and are probably largely unaware that women are being banned from the group for them.

I agree. It's great to get sunlight on this to be honest. I reckon a lot of people reading that thread on Facebook will be baffled by the organisers' behaviour. They really like throwing the word bigot around, don't they 🤣 In all seriousness though, they make me despair.

This has been an eye opening thread. I can't believe it really. Well done to all who tried to reason with them.

Amidst the gloom, the last line of this did make me snigger “in front of the Samba band” (from London)

there seem to be a lot of people saying they are worried about going now.

I think they should be

Livinginaclock · 17/01/2025 14:20

This is from the Newcastle chat yesterday.
I don't know if it's still there but the poster's worries were dismissed, there's a group called Women's Street Watch organising that march.
They're supposed to help, probably inebriated women on nights out, but I'd question that given they were complicit in dismissing fears surrounding SJB.

How does anyone read that perfectly compassionate reply, relating specifically to trauma-informed care, and come to the conclusion that the people providing that care are the baddies, and not the individuals trying to prioritise their identity over the welfare of traumatised women.

From looking at the messages they deny SJB is speaking? I thought they were but maybe it's just that the London March have invited them?

I think there was just a mix up information. Personally I think that being comfortable with a violet offender publicising their attendance, calling the offender lovely, minimising the worries of women, and effectively removing warnings about the offender's attendance is bad enough in itself

I wonder what the ratio of men to women will be in the safe space

You couldn't make it up- on their FB page the official statement is posted by one march organiser and guess what features number 1 on why they are marching? Of course .. for trans women! As violence against trans women is snowballing apparently.

The UK women's march team have a trans flag first...

Deleted post as no longer relevant.

The speaker from Trevi who I believe is a prominent advocate for women's rights has been cancelled. One person in the chat has just proclaimed how excellent it is. Gross

What is her name?

This is just a trans march. Nothing wrong with that but why can't they just say that?

cariadlet · 17/01/2025 17:31

The organisers of other marches seem to be getting spooked by the unwelcome attention that SJB's presence is attracting.

The East Sussex WRN thread is getting a lot of attention on Twitter. Someone from the Liverpool march has quote tweeted.
Surprisingly, her Twitter bio includes "transwomen are men" so she isn't following the "inclusive" ethos of the national march.

Official statement. Withdrawn by mutual agreement. So confirms SJB was a speaker?

From memory, the Liverpool posters had the progressive flag front and centre

The Million women march is a different march. They are a for biological sex.

I have just messaged her to tell her that it isn't the million women march the WRN are speaking about.

Bloody hell!

I thought that I had misunderstood and that he was attending rather than speaking but we were right all along.

He was going to be a speaker!

He most definitely was but they can withdraw all they like, the damage has been done..

Maybe, given that they seem to agree that SJB was an unsuitable speaker, they’d like to expand on why they’ve blocked women for highlighting SJB’s previous history of offending.

I have screenshots from the London group chat. Would appear that SJB was invited. Now disinvited. If you want the screenshots let me know.
