Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

The “women’s march” that’s all about the men.

I couldn’t see a thread about this, but I’m just here to share how annoying it is to see a so-called women’s march so concerned with placating men. This is the march in January.

As well as the highly predictable “this is for all women” (meaning including the ones who are men) and the ‘we don’t tolerate transphobia’ (meaning any concept of sex-based oppression), the Facebook group is full of posts reassuring men that of course they’re welcome and it’s not all men and obviously “not my Nigel”. It’s infuriating. Why do people do this?

I have contacted the lead and original organiser who I am waiting for a response from as she was not happy to hear what has been happening. Asked her surely this cannot be real??!! Who invited someone like that to this march.

He does merch all labelled with 'this prick', I assume because JK Rowling called him that once and it's the closest thing he's got to the big time.

Welcome to the invited guest of the Women's March 2025.

Edited

Jesus Christ I can't believe he's been invited. He was criticised by our then FM (when said FM realised how bad a look it was that a man was shouting fuck you at rape survivors and survivors of FGM).

Who the fuck thought that was a good idea? I'm sorry but this is an actual joke. These young women would block someone like tiger lily yet allow this abuser into the march?! Says it all really. I'll be avoiding Glasgow during march day then. What absolute idiots. Inviting abusive misogynistic men. May as well make it a full house and get big Isla along, maybe a day off from prison eh?!

Yep. Humza on Tom Harlow:

'...men shouldn't be abusive towards women ... nothing gives them the right, regardless of how strongly they hold their views'

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4919302-humza-yousaf-condemns-abuse-against-filia-conference-attendees

Sent this to their lead organiser too.... surely they can't condone that? I am going to send a further email to Glasgow City Council and the police about this.

TigerLily40 · 20/12/2024 11:48

Who has a screenshot of them announcing/ saying they have invited him and that he is going?

Here, Tigerlily.

This is just disgraceful. No response from the lead for the group even though she read my message 😂😂 I wouldn't know what the f**k to say either to that one. I will email the council and the police department for protests etc with this. Imagine inviting such hate.

TigerLily40 · 20/12/2024 11:58

@Sparklybutold if they couldn't get hold of the event organisers, I could imagine they can go directly to the city councils and police etc...

Well there is a Celtic match and a pro Palestinian march planned for that day in Glasgow I believe (100% sure about the football) so they still need the police to be able to be there.

I have been following this board for a while and I just need to say thank you for existing. I will ramble on, but that's the crux of it. I am self employed, have been a long time and have quite a 'small' existence in many ways. Also not a massive social media user so haven't been exposed to any online debates other than what I've read here. I've often worried that I'm existing in an echo chamber.

However, I've recently joined BlueSky and LinkedIn to try and boost my income and I've found myself quite upset by the conversations around transgender issues. I haven't sought these out, they have just appeared. A lot of anger and what seems to me like a serious lack of logic. (I've attached a couple of things I've seen.) I can't get beyond the fact that transgender ideology reinforces damaging stereotypes. Is it anything more than that? I'm yet to hear a convincing argument for why gender trumps sex, or for why it's wrong to even talk about the issues in a critical way. How is it hateful to want to protect women? How can we look at the Suffragettes or at what is happening in Afghanistan and not understand that sex rather than gender comes first? I'm honestly open to listening and learning. I don't necessarily think I'm right. It is not in my nature to be in conflict with others; I find it incredibly stressful and upsetting.

I'm full of sympathy for those experiencing gender dysphoria, truly I am. It must be horribly difficult and upsetting and I would never want to undermine their experience.

I have no more to say really. I can't speak up on social media. I need to earn money and the conflict would be hugely difficult for me. I just can't engage with it. That makes me feel like a terrible wimp if I'm honest. I guess I am!

P.s. the second attachment genuinely baffles me. I'm not if I'm misunderstanding it.

I can’t be sure what gay men’s slang means in 2024 but in late 80s early 90s London ‘she’ was used to subtly indicate not fancying the person discussed!

So ‘I’ve invited my friend to join us the bar, I think you’ll like her’ meant ‘feel free to try it on, we’re genuinely just mates’.

It wasn’t intended to say anything about actual women except a lack of sexual attraction existed to both (and at a time when societal homophobia was heightened due to HIV/AIDS and some of the polari type language was still utilised to avoid being outed).

Do you know who the 'base' team are? As well need to let FSU etc know where to send letters etc.

Not a clue. The original one was a fairly organic Facebook movement with no real organising body. They later set up March On to carry on the protests, but I've no idea whether that's behind the current one.

These are screenshots of the conversation about Trevi. This is a small charity that provides trauma-informed care to women, including mothers and children. Not good enough for this Women’s march

So this is now a march to try to force women's services to let men in?
With importance given to men feelz about being told no, rather than the women using the services feelings?

Oh, I forgot men always come first!

Just them excluding people again. It is just awful.

TigerLily40 · 21/12/2024 09:52

Well received a response from their lead. I will respond later to her but I certainly think they should release a statement saying GC women can attend and unblock the women they blocked due to this. She is not aware of what happened with that Devon charity but will let her know. Furthermore, the leads had my contact details so could have easily have contacted me. Please let me know your view on the response I should give. Any points you want raised?

I also want them to unblock the women they blocked.

ArabellaScott · 21/12/2024 10:36

So are they going to unblock all the women who asked questions or made reasonable points?

That would be a.good faith move. They also need to apologise for threatening to 'belt' women, imo.

It makes a fucking mockery of the whole idea of the march.

Calling women 'Karen' and 'terf' and 'boomer' , lying about women making threats, excluding women with gc views, dismissing the feelings of dv survivors, fawning over men, I mean fuck off.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 21/12/2024 10:37

Yes, they've glossed over all that instead of addressing it.
