Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

The “women’s march” that’s all about the men.

I couldn’t see a thread about this, but I’m just here to share how annoying it is to see a so-called women’s march so concerned with placating men. This is the march in January.

As well as the highly predictable “this is for all women” (meaning including the ones who are men) and the ‘we don’t tolerate transphobia’ (meaning any concept of sex-based oppression), the Facebook group is full of posts reassuring men that of course they’re welcome and it’s not all men and obviously “not my Nigel”. It’s infuriating. Why do people do this?

January 2017 - when Trump was inaugurated. US-led, but worldwide, all on the same day - I went on the New Zealand one.

Do you know who the 'base' team are? As well need to let FSU etc know where to send letters etc.

Whisper it, but I think we’re seeing some push back. There are a few more posts particularly addressing the issue of the centring of men’s concerns. There’s also a ‘transwoman’ who posted about Barbara Banda and that post has disappeared. Either taken down or asked to be removed. He’d previously posted about JKR 🙄

From what I can see there are different fb groups for different cities where the march will be? So I'm imagining the conversation might differ in all groups? Or is the central idea of 'TWAW and you have to comply' idea permeate in all of them?

Do you know if there's a hub? Can anyone do some digging?

So they removed a post about Barbara Banda? Ironically posted by a TW? And they took it down. So there must be an undercurrent of concern knowing there's an issue.

This is in the main group. Each march has an event page, although I think some of them are also setting up groups because they’re cross the chats went.

FYI - the Exeter group is public.

Sparklybutold · 20/12/2024 09:03

Spoke to soon, this group has discontinued and when I try to link through I can't access anything.

Projectme · 20/12/2024 09:03

I've not looked at the FB page since yesterday but whilst scrolling I was amazed not to have seen any comments about JKR (derogatory or otherwise). I was wondering when they'd mention her.

I've not seen separate FB pages for each walk; there were separate Messenger groups for each walk but the majority of these were taken down with an excuse of 'working behind the scenes' kind of thing.

Projectme · 20/12/2024 09:05

Ah, they've created separate events for each town/city walks. No discussions on the one local to me yet.

Calling bull on that one, I bet it was because they were taking flak but are not budging despite the inherent problem in their 'inclusiveness'.

Let's look at previous "Women's Marches" around the world in the last few years:

The one in London where Munroe Bergdorf, a misogynistic male TRA, was asked to speak and said women shouldn't centre their own reproductive rights.

The one in Vancouver where "Hailey Heartless", a misogynistic male BDSM "dominatrix" and TRA who had previously made a BDSM video taunting "terfs" was asked to speak.

The first one in Washington where misogynistic male TRA Cherno Biko was asked to speak.

Yes I mentioned what a shower the organisers of previous "Women's" marches had been.

Just been having a nosy round and seems that the Trevi Charity is under fire by a couple of the women in the group for Plymouth. Seems one of them has a screen shot from the Charity clearly stating they don't support TW and commenting that it's a shame that the services provided by the Charity don't help these women. 😑

and yes, I'm sure you're right @Sparklybutold about the reasons for pulling the chats!

Edited: I'd cut/pasted the comments but they didn't appear in my original comment here.

I've just seen this. They say the charity refers on to an LGBT charity, but apparently that's not good enough. Fuckers

@TigerLily40 yes they ended in November, but I'm fairly certain the activism and marches are still done on the back end of WEP. Reading through some of WEPs stuff the language is similar.

Although I'm doubting myself now?

Anyone else?

Sounds very similar

Think it is individuals but I have taken down the names / screenshots of the organisers.

Seems the Glasgow march has invited that 'Cabaret' bloke, the lanky chap who previously chanted 'fuck you' to a group of FGM survivors at a feminist conference.

This really doesn't surprise me. They are idiots

TigerLily40 · 20/12/2024 10:55

@Sparklybutold I have messaged the main organiser for contact details for correspondence but the organisation has its own FB and IG page (I am banned from both 😂😂).

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/12/2024 11:00

It's clearly a power play to stake a claim, they don't actually believe in "women's rights" as a thing because otherwise "non binary" women (and men obvs) wouldn't be included. It's "non men" all over again.

He does merch all labelled with 'this prick', I assume because JK Rowling called him that once and it's the closest thing he's got to the big time.
