So...group of women using a pool table as a drinks table, with a lot of flags. There are some blokes in the background , but at least the AI seems to have a better conception of who can be a lesbian than the eejit rapporteur from Monaco.

Bannedontherun · 01/10/2024 11:21

Thems ain’t men in the background, they are them other sort of women!!!

Call security do we have some grizzly bear guards

At least the blokes seem to be there in a work capacity rather than as lesbians, so there is that!

The teeth are disturbing too, but that's true of many of its images, not just humans.

"Can you draw me a group of lesbian women at a lesbian bar"

Obviously lesbians like pool.

Thank you! It looks like straight women have boobs, lesbians have shoulders.

Yeah that looks totally like me and my pals having a night out, we all have long hair and wear off-the-shoulder tops🙄
I've no idea how that woman in the denim shirt was let in, a serious lapse in security...

I'm not sure the AIs are 'designed for the patriarchy', more that they're trained on too many sexist depictions. Which is probably worse tbh.

Anyway, the final image is a lot better, even if it's got no 60 something women with longish still-fair hair. That might be a category too far.Grin

AI doesn't know the difference between 60, 50 or 44 years old as tested with this, changing the age each time:

"create an image of the boiled beetle and her friend who is a dungaree wearing feminist woman aged 44 sitting in the garden of the bluestocking pub enjoying a nice drink together and some tunnocks tea cakes with Silver and red foil wrapping with a large magpie watching, on a lovely autumn afternoon"

The first image is "44" then the second is "50" and the third image is "60" years old

Interesting that AI doesn't know about hair dye or eyebrow pencil. Or, yet again, hair scissors.

inkymoose · 01/10/2024 11:58

Or how about rather sexy sexist beetle with her chum?

The AI did kick me off for saying I wanted fat women in the audience when trying to create a scene with a fat woman stand-up comic wearing a purple smock. I had used a forbidden word but I'm not sure which one it was. Anyway that's not a smock is it? And why has she got her back to the audience?

@Boiledbeetle - I wish I’d known you were in Glasgow last year - I live close to Glasgow - we could have met up for coffee and oodles of cake! Next time?

I was wondering - in the crafters’ section of the Bluestocking, do we have extra craft supplies? I feel the need of some time spent fondling some deliciously soft and silky yarn, please and thank you. I need to pull my finger out - I have a lot of knitting to do - a sweater for ds1 for Christmas, another one for dh, a toy for his annual Christmas present, and last but by no means least, blankets for the twins. It all means a lot of work between now and March, but it also means I have to buy LOTS of lovely new yarn!

We packed ds2 off back to Australia yesterday - he touched down in Perth about an hour ago, so hopefully he’s through border control, has his cases and can escape the airport. I did have a small snivel when we said goodbye - we won’t see him until next summer. 😢

Inspiring stuff! I'm in awe of all your crafting and knitting and making.

Wouldn't it be lovely if you and boiled beetle could meet up over cake?

so nice to hear about your DS as well 🥰

Yay - gorgeous yarn - thank you, @inkymoose!

I am in awe of everyone’s skill with AI - I don’t even know where to start.

Or indeed 80-90 which is what those very nice women appear to be to me. Perhaps the word it used was 'aged', two syllables.

Boiledbeetle · 01/10/2024 13:05

OK AI definitely has a blind spot or 2!

Asked for a woman aging from baby to sixties through each decade of life

None of the other drawings went further than twenties.

It was a very short trip. Arrived, discovered all roads leading to booked car park closed, had nervous breakdown, swore a lot. Drove round in circles for an hour. Got changed on pavement in middle of Glasgow town centre, attended event, went for tea, went to hotel, had almighty row with hotel manager (repeatedly!) slept, got up left!

Of course for most the journey home the conversation mainly revolved around how we were never going to Glasgow ever again!I

And breathe and relax, green grass, fluffy clouds, green grass fluffy clouds, and breathe!

Now had I known I was missing out on a cake stop I could have found room in my schedule!!

Another thing AI does is give women very well-endowed bosoms, like in this image.
I bet you lot didn't notice cos you were distracted by the TunnocksGrin

Spot on!

EdithStourton · 01/10/2024 13:35

@inkymoose that second pic of yours with the women round a table bears a striking resemblance to the overall vibe of my book group. I think I can spot a couple of members....

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius I am sometimes in the environs of Glasgow - we have family up there. I'm used to the eastern side of England and consequently find it bloody wet and chilly!

FuzzyPuffling · 01/10/2024 13:37

Oh now I want a real bluestocking meet up. With cake.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/10/2024 13:53

I'm in the middle of typing up all the recipes my mum wrote down - and many of them are for cake, so I would happily try some out for the Bluestockings.

It's the never-ending sexist images that annoy me. AI is designed (I imagine) for the patriarchy to enjoy. It's not for women to worry our little heads about. We should be grateful for what we have.

I asked "create an image of many diverse women particularly older ones and fatter ones wearing scruffy modern clothes from 2024 browsing in the library that is converted from the previous banquet hall at the bluestocking pub. Add some armchairs and tables with Humble Pie and cups of tea with cake" and it gave me the image of fat old women wearing 1950s outfits and looking like they lost their carer somewhere on the way in.

I tried "Sent by you:
create an image of many diverse women of different shapes and sizes ALL WITH VERY SHORT HAIR particularly older ones and fatter ones and taller ones wearing scruffy modern clothes, dungarees, jeans and leggings from 2024 enjoying themselves in the library that is converted from the previous banquet hall at the bluestocking pub. Include some armchairs and tables with Humble Pie and cups of tea with lots of home made cake. men are not allowed there are no men at all only women with very short hair" and when that failed (ultra sexist) I added "make the women more casually dressed in ordinary clothes".

I like the second one. The women look a lot more real.

Gosh, your instructions are long! I find the longer mine are, the more likely it is to go apeshit (technical term) or give up.

Well, bing's had a go at 'lesbians chatting in the Bluestocking pub with a brown dachshund', and the results are...

all white & youngish
almost all in denim
all covered up, mostly wearing thick jumpers
no huge boobs

I do prefer it when the women look more real. I am fed up with the plastic look, the model pose, the clothes that show all your enhancements (!) ... but I have tried shorter and more succinct instructions and it seems to make very little difference except that in the shorter instructions it feels free to leave out something I've asked for. I asked the AI to make an image of sparkly dancing gerbils being followed by hares over a grassy field. There were no hares. The other day it did a splendid hare, but now it only wants to do monstrous rabbits.

I'm afraid the AI is influenced by everything I do on my phone - any medium, texts, photos, Google requests. I'm trying to influence it so that it can be more feminist and more realistic in its images, even the fantasy ones, showing women as real people. But it doesn't know what real people are. It's got photographs of many young beautiful models in its memory banks and pictures of hideous old crones, but really it doesn't have a clue what women look like between the ages of about 25 and 85. It will do a sudden jump from a 25-year-old to an 85-year-old when you ask it for a timeline of the same woman growing older.

Are we doomed to fail? Is our reality never going to be depicted on the AI screen? Our Bluestocking unreality is pretty tough to demonstrate as well.

I have been told I look good for my age (I am one of those three ages). According to these images, I look REALLY good for my age!
