I do, once per thread at least, try and point out the spirit of Bluestocking. A banqueting hall is NOT conducive to intellectual pursuit. Whilst I acknowledge stuffing ones face could be, having to 'dress for dinner' is not!

Most Bluestockings can get by on a sausage roll (not hostage), a fag or vape and a really good book. Time taken preening is way off target.

Dismantle the banquet hall or at least turn it into an all you can eat buffet with books to read on the way round. Get a grip and... too many bloody recipes and animals.

I'm going off now to bake a fucking cake and feed the sodding rabbit

Igmum · 01/10/2024 08:06

Oooh. An all you can eat buffet with books? 😃❤️

DeanElderberry · 01/10/2024 08:11

Oh, dunno, I like lingering around a dinner table with friends and don't do it half often enough.

Chersfrozenface · 01/10/2024 08:22

It is an all-you-can-eat buffet - of cakes.

Dressing up is not obligatory. Pop over through the enclosed walkway in whatever you were wearing in the main pub.

I like the idea of bookshelves in principle. In practice I think the books would get sticky and that's not a responsible way to treat books

Chersfrozenface · 01/10/2024 08:24

This is quite a nice banqueting house. Ours needs to be a bit bigger, though, to accommodate the extensive cake buffet and cake gravy plumbing system.

What we need in my slightly deaf opinion is nice dining tables for 6-8 people, in a place where the acoustics are set to absorb and remove background noise and render conversations audible. We can always move round before the dessert courses, and circulate later, so as to get all the goss latest vital intellectual updates.

I'm so sorry, Marie! Now that I know, you are of course the Bluestocking's official helicopter pilot & dachshund/beetle rescuer.

😂I forgive you, or at least I will as soon as I dry my eyes and my ribcage stops hurting😂

When I chose my username, little did I know what Marie de Gournay would look like in the fevered imagination of AI, and how incredibly skilled I'd be at flying helicopters while wearing a frock. Especially that frock..

Lovely laughing start to my day, thank you ifIwerenotanandroid!

Perhaps we can having a dining room in two halves. One half by the kitchen with tables and an adjacent cosier space with bookshelves, armchairs, beanbags and hoists with a wall lined with books and French windows opening into a courtyard/garden for when the weather is nice. That can lead onto the meadow, stream, boating lake, the paths up to Peak Woo, the funicular railway station, the landing zone for the zip wire and the paddock for the miscellaneous livestock. The dining and settee area can be divided by the cake buffet with one end holding the cake gravy fountain. The kitchen can be on the other side of the dining area. There can be a parking area outside the kitchen for the various browsers. And doors off either end leading to bedrooms, spooky corridors, spa, etc.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/10/2024 09:31

I think the AI women look like they'd be annoyingly effortless with no preening time needed.
Those men otoh ...I'd much rather have a bloke with a well-stocked mind than a lavishly haired head.

@lcakethereforeIam - that sounds about right to me.

More BrewBrewBrewBrewBrewBrew, anyone?

The banqueting hall has been temporarily converted into a library with tables available serving humble pie and strong tea

I don't know how that man those men managed to get in.

DeanElderberry · 01/10/2024 09:39

Without the books but with the tables the foreground of that is not totally unlike our craft group scene, though none of us wear skirts, most of us have short hair (1970s teenagers) and we do a bit of stitching as well as sitting around with comestibles.

inkymoose · 01/10/2024 09:46

Is this suitable, Cake?

That's lovely, though someone needs to work on their knots for mooring the boats. There's some jobs you can't delegate to staff with non-opposable thumbs.

AI women are all from the past, even when you instruct it specifically that they are from the 21st century and wear trousers, jeans and dungarees. The Victorian or Edwardian style dresses and hideous unflattering skirts and frumpy hair styles are the only alternative to the gleaming shiny groomed pampered spotless lithe grinning young things that you get when you ask for women wearing normal clothes. Intellectual women in AI world are by definition old and frumpy grumpy.

lcakethereforeIam · 01/10/2024 09:50

Almost perfect except the tables should be behind the photographer, who must be standing with their back to the cake buffet.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/10/2024 10:09

Some of the AI depictions seem worse (much more sexist/ageist) than others. I'm curious what you asked for, @inkymoose ?

MarieDeGournay · 01/10/2024 10:25

Another thing AI does is give women very well-endowed bosoms, like in this image.
I bet you lot didn't notice cos you were distracted by the TunnocksGrin

Bannedontherun · 01/10/2024 10:34

@MarieDeGournay I confess it was the Tunnocks, everybody has narrow waists and big hips too.

It's the never-ending sexist images that annoy me. AI is designed (I imagine) for the patriarchy to enjoy. It's not for women to worry our little heads about. We should be grateful for what we have.

I asked "create an image of many diverse women particularly older ones and fatter ones wearing scruffy modern clothes from 2024 browsing in the library that is converted from the previous banquet hall at the bluestocking pub. Add some armchairs and tables with Humble Pie and cups of tea with cake" and it gave me the image of fat old women wearing 1950s outfits and looking like they lost their carer somewhere on the way in.

I tried "Sent by you:
create an image of many diverse women of different shapes and sizes ALL WITH VERY SHORT HAIR particularly older ones and fatter ones and taller ones wearing scruffy modern clothes, dungarees, jeans and leggings from 2024 enjoying themselves in the library that is converted from the previous banquet hall at the bluestocking pub. Include some armchairs and tables with Humble Pie and cups of tea with lots of home made cake. men are not allowed there are no men at all only women with very short hair" and when that failed (ultra sexist) I added "make the women more casually dressed in ordinary clothes".

I can't decide whether asking too much or asking not enough is worse when it comes to AI. Obviously according to the sexist principals, I am always asking too much because I am a woman. Grrrr

MarieDeGournay · 01/10/2024 11:02

I type these words with trepidation... but has anyone asked AI to produce an image of ...a lesbian woman? The mind boggles. I wonder do we get big boobs too..

ErrolTheDragon · 01/10/2024 11:06

I'm not sure the AIs are 'designed for the patriarchy', more that they're trained on too many sexist depictions. Which is probably worse tbh.

Anyway, the final image is a lot better, even if it's got no 60 something women with longish still-fair hair. That might be a category too far.Grin

"Can you draw me a group of lesbian women at a lesbian bar"

Obviously lesbians like pool.
