Seriously. Depressing, isn't it? I knock it out of them quite fast, but I'm very familiar with the arrogant look that doubts whether a woman could possibly be a scientist. Usually mature students, to be fair.

I had a recent run-in on a committee I'm on with Know-All Bloke.
'Are you sure?' he says to me.
Mate, you have spent your life in a field totally unrelated to the one which we are discussing, in which I do have some limited professional background. Also, I have read up on this topic quite thoroughly.

So yeah, I am fucking sure.

I seem to find myself wishing to deck one of his kind about once a decade. The last one was about 75, ten years ago. This one is only about 35.

So yeah, I feel your pain.

I've just realised I have no clue what pilates actually entails

@Boiledbeetle - I went to a class and was told it was all about activating my core.

This had a lot less to do with spaceships and dilithium crystals and other fun science fiction stuff than I'd hoped.

Do I need to change my stick for a wand?

Sharon's arrived

She appears to be rocking the Southwold look these days.
(For those not in the know, Southwold is the poshest seaside resort on the entire east coast. More importantly from my POV, it is the home of Adnam's Brewery.)

I was just going to pass these round <shifts guiltily> honest! Help yourself.

Don't mind if I do.

OK who tried a few and put them back?

I am online to IT support. Could you send over a large large one please? Also I am annoyed because I need milk but going out to get it would mean getting drenched.

Does the extensive gerbil staff mean that cats are no longer welcome? Boy cat specialises in hunting elastic bands but girl cat is a seasoned serial killer.

I hope we're paying the gerbils decent wages and giving them the option to join a trade union.

Sounds as if we share a favourite song! 😺

My dog, he can do the can-can
Better than the cat can
But the goldfish finds it very diff-i-cult
Oh my dog, he can do the can-can
Better than the cat can
But the goldfish finds it very hard

<sinks into deep ballerina curtsey, stays there while persuading ageing joints to get up>

Er.... nope. Never heard of it. But 'Ironing My Goldfish Flat' is an old favourite of mine.

I remember going to a taster session/introduction to a certain topic & one older bloke was a pain all the way through. When the teacher asked him at the end if he was going to enrol, he said, "Yes, but not to learn anything, just to tell you where you're going wrong."😂(Teacher was a man & I felt sorry for him. I didn't enrol.)

She's looking very middle class for a seagull. And the babies look enchanting!

We've had a few Adnams gift boxes from friends & rellies over there. Husband loves it; I only drink cider. I use the advent drawer one for storing jewellery, though - it works a treat.

I think this gerbil must be from the Cirque du Gerbeil lot - no idea what it's up to, but here's your order, Iggy.

The gerbils unionised on Thread 3, & we had a cat in the Bluestocking, but I don't know what's happened to it. Did anyone bring it over here?

The gerbils are currently keeping the cat amused, some of the others are at the weekly union meeting

Sharon's family are so sweet.

The nameless Bluestocking cat will keep any visiting cats on their best behaviour. Possibly why its fur makes it look like it's dressed as a bouncer.

As the weather's so vile I think nice, thick soups (vegetarian and something meaty) with butter and crusty bread would be good for later, perhaps with a fruit crumble...and a custard bowser?

I'm not sure a cat would beat a load of gerbils who are, to quote Chicken Run, organised.

So it may have decided discretion is the better part of valour. Or been disappeared. The chaos of the move may have provided an opportunity, if you know what I mean.

Igmum · 30/09/2024 16:06

Ooo thank you @ifIwerenotanandroid I needed that.

I had the cats with me at the start of thread two but that was pre-Gerbils. I seem to have spent far too long catching up on long FWR threads and too little time in the pub recently.

Glad to hear the Gerbils are unionised and taking action ✊more power to yer paws our small, furry comrades

Helloooo

I've returned from the norty step.

I put some black pudding in the fridge last week [thanks for that breakfast], hoping someone snaffled it before it went off.

I've made a kiln load of pottery [mainly for my cats] during my rest and recouperation and the next one I'm making some TERFY mugs, if anyone has any TERFy Snark you want to share.

Bannedontherun · 30/09/2024 16:39

Glad the Gerbil Eats was to your liking.

Now, are you going to be a good donut and avoid threads that are bad for your health?

I wondered who the black pudding belonged to. The goats had it over the weekend.

I live in range of both Adnam's and Aspall's.
My cup runneth over, quite literally.

There is also some decent local wine, but it is eye-wateringly expensive. I'll have to stick Bluestocking cocktails if a fancy a change (no sparp, thank you.)

The bread was made this morning. Custard bowser coming right up - if someone could just get AI to oblige...

(NB I have recently discovered that if you stick quartered fig into the microwave with a dollop of custard and zap it for 30-60 secs, you get a delicious, small and vaguely healthy dessert.)

That sounds good. I'm eating figs with cinnamon, some walnuts and a good blob of Greek yogurt; microwaving the figs and cinnamon before adding the other bits would probably improve... I sometimes do a cutted up pink lady apple microwaved similarly so I don't know why I'm not doing that already.

Magpiecomplex · 30/09/2024 17:46

I apologise, it appears that the gerbils have been taking custard-making lessons from my mother in law. One slice or two?
