Great story well told, Bannedontherun
It could only have been bettered by 'Brass in Pocket' by the Pretenders playing in the background, it's impossible not to swagger when that song's playing!

I heard a somewhat similar story where the lads were so freaked out by being beaten by a woman that they literally [as in literally] ran out the door of the pub, laughing like embarrassed hyenas, and disappeared into the night..

Yes totally agree the music that i recall being played was my friends choice, and how it was, so in the bio of my slightly less than average life i would choose that.

Gosh this is such a safe place our little secret pub, i could tell you so many wild tales …. Of my mad free form version of feminism so very influenced by personal trauma, love, hate, all linked to my own heterosexuality and a desire for men, and boy did I fuck a few. Literally and metaphorically speaking.

female betrayal, and sisterhood were part of my experience i had a love affair with my mate who wanted to know if she was a lesbian. Turned out she was and I was not.

I remember everybody loved us in our world at the time we were new and hip. Makes me think of now and what is well hip.

God am glad i was young then and not now.

<skips into the lounge bar>

I have two French blokes on my terrace with sledgehammers banging out bits of concrete, levelling it and retiling it. I thought they'd never arrive after the deluge of rain in the last week. The cats have scattered and are inspecting all the stuff that is usually on the terrace and I've made a tunnel for them using the chairs and the tablecloth.

So I'm going to hunker down in the corner for the week. I'm wondering which of the cats will be walking on wet cement first. <eyeroll>

I have two French blokes on my terrace
is this real, or is it a continuation of the influx of French blokes on the last iteration of this thread - perhaps you missed it, but an inexplicable outburst of Franglais [may have been my fault🙄] caused a sudden interest in intense one-on-one French tutoring...
Maybe they've turned their hand to construction, now the bottom has fallen out of the Franglais market.

You just know you will cherish those little cat paw prints forever once you've got over the fact they've waited until it was all perfectly finished before taking the longest route possible through it.

MarieDeGournay · 02/10/2024 10:00

Do the French blokes with sledgehammers look anything like this chap from a previous thread, AlisonDonut?

No, they are genuine and currently pricing up a concrete pour as apparently our terrace is more random than they anticipated.

They will be breaking for their 2.5 hour lunch any time soon.

lcakethereforeIam · 02/10/2024 10:04

And this guy showed up again.

Though the water was very gratefully received.

Oh fair enough so.
No fun, just wet concrete and a diminishing bank balance, then😕
Bonne chance with it all, and I hope the end résultat is worth it.

Alison's concrete later today

I know! I've already preserved one paw print on one of my pottery pieces which unfortunately exploded in the kiln, but the paw print didn't shatter so I'm keeping it and will glaze it and use it as an ornament.

When I was at school in the 1980s, I took home a drawing board as one of my O level art pieces was stuck onto it and somehow in the chaos of teenagehood it never got returned. My cat at the time walked over an oil I was working on, and the board still has his paw prints on it and I've kept hold of it ever since for that reason.

I still use it. I don't like to throw stuff away if I can help it.

I'm going to be keeping every single paw print on my pottery! I have a ninja girl cat who likes to get into the potting shed roof and then drop down onto my drying table. So I'm guessing it is hers. It is like Mission Impossible in there some days.

The terrace though will be covered in tiles so any paw prints will be hidden unfortunately.
