The Bluestocking is reopening

It's time we reopened the Bluestocking, I think.

This is the FWR pub, situated in the charming village of Badley Fuckitt near the Shady Pines rest home. It has a cannon (for reasons lost in the mists of time), goats in the paddock next to the beer garden and a menu including many soups and cakes. It's open all hours, serving breakfast and tea to all weary women, in addition to being the ideal location to metaphorically drown your sorrows.

I accidentally made too many cheese and potato pasties yesterday for our journey back to the UK tomorrow and Monday. They are HUGE!!! So I've popped the extras in the fridge if anyone wants one.

Also, there's a bag of courgettes and cucumbers on the side. We can't eat them before we go. Feel free.

ErrolTheDragon

Yum!

'Cheese salad' is indeed a very variable product but I've been using it as a default request in pubs where the other lunch options are unappealing or unsafe. Everyone has managed to produce something. At the worst there's a bit of lettuce, a tomato, a few slices of cheddar and some crisps.

At the best, several different Irish artisan cheeses, a few grapes, some slices of apple, green leaves, bit of chutney - and some crisps.

Alas, crusty bread is on the 'unsafe' list thanks to the allergy.

DeanElderberry · 27/07/2024 14:00

Sometimes potato salad or mashed potatoes, sometimes coleslaw, sometimes a nice vinaigrette.

often eyed enviously by people who stuck to the official menu. I think the last one had (unpickled) beetroot and goat cheese and rocket as well as the usual.

There’s a proper fireplace with inglenooks and comfy (if slightly) battered chairs, yes? And a supply of board games? I do like a good board game.

I was just going to ask if the pub has a magical temperature incline, where some of us can be under a blanket by a fire with a hot drink and a quokka and other women can be on hammocks in the boiling sunshine.

Mine's a blanket.

I've had a week and I needed this.

I've just eaten an entire bag of M&S crispy caramel clouds and I think they should be served here too as I could easily go another bag.

Anyone sitting here? Vinho Verde is my absolute favourite wine, and lemon drizzle my favourite cake. I just know we shall be firm friends 🧡

Another Vinho Verde fan hovering nearby wondering about joining you two whilst in a tizzy of indecision about what to order from the amazing menu before finishing off with the lemon drizzle.

Crab sandwich? Scrambled eggs and smoked Trout? I’m salivating. And feel the need to rest here a while whilst hiding from a world of insane fuckwittery and misogynistic women scolding.

It’s a lovely place <nods to the peaceful women quietly relaxing >

Edited to add I’ve never heard of a Quokka but clearly they’ve just become my favourite animal.

Who wouldn’t like this handy child carrying pouch leaving hands free to munch?

I wish humans were marsupials, no more childbirth nightmares just pull them out by their ears when they're done.

lcakethereforeIam · 27/07/2024 14:40

And so handy for tissues, car keys and the like.

quantumbutterfly · 27/07/2024 14:54

Forgive my morbid curiosity. Watched too much 'bones'.

Professor Mary Black's books are also fascinating. Apparently women have a different distribution of cartilage on their sternums.

You corrected it to Sue Black, but Mary Black is a Professor Emerita, in my heart anyway💖

Maybe she could do a nice acoustic sesh at the Bluestocking some evening?
Slothtoes · 27/07/2024 15:20

Are there going to be big screens showing the Olympics?

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/07/2024 15:22

Great to see the place open again @ErrolTheDragon. Mine's a tea. It's been tea ever since I got back from holiday. I missed tea while I was away.Brew

Not in the Lounge bar darling. Heaven forfend. You need to be in the Public bar for that.

I'm a bit late, but just made two loaves of bread and they're still nice and hot, with a good crisp crust. Give it half an hour and I'll slice it. There's butter just at the right temperature and blackcurrant jam. Anyone want a plate?

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/07/2024 15:42

Ooh, I'll have some of that please @Vegemiteandhoneyontoast.

Yes, though I think seahorses have an even better arrangement don't they?

Splendid. I'll cut some bread and let's get stuck in. The jam's home made by the way and not half bad.

Dumbo12 · 27/07/2024 16:05

I'm just making a batch of cheese scones to take to daughter in hospital with broken leg, so I'll make a bigger batch of anyone's interested.

lcakethereforeIam · 27/07/2024 16:07

That's lovely, I hope your leg gets better. What's your daughter in for? 😊

As you might be able to guess, I love cheese.

Don't mind if I do.

Takes a slice... Watches the plate magically refill in front of my eyes!

lcakethereforeIam · 27/07/2024 16:32

Apple cake, with a slice of crumbly cheshire or wensleydale. Speaking of which...
