The Bluestocking is reopening

It's time we reopened the Bluestocking, I think.

This is the FWR pub, situated in the charming village of Badley Fuckitt near the Shady Pines rest home. It has a cannon (for reasons lost in the mists of time), goats in the paddock next to the beer garden and a menu including many soups and cakes. It's open all hours, serving breakfast and tea to all weary women, in addition to being the ideal location to metaphorically drown your sorrows.

Lemonade?🥹

Edited

Next time can we give the cider/Bailey's combination a miss?

Yes. That's probably for the best.

We've got some very drinkable non-alcoholic beers - I know they used to be cats-piss but there are some decent ones nowadays which hit the spot for me if I want something cold but not sweet.
Alternatively of course there's proper fresh lemonade, with or without fizzy water/elderflower.

Can I book the function room? Anytime during the next week. I'm into my birthday week, and as no one would dare throw me a surprise birthday party I'm going to have to do my own!

I was thinking: Lots of nibbly bits, like a picky tea but on a larger scale.

(And can I ask that the fruit be cut up into bits size pieces as well please. Especially the grapes, beetles are prone to choking on whole grapes)

Fresh lemonade? Yes please!

When is the surprise party? I'll be sure to take the next day off.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 30/07/2024 16:10

I've been working outside so right now I crave weak Ribena and lots of it.

The party sounds fun, Beetle!

lcakethereforeIam · 30/07/2024 17:07

I'll probably be better by then, and I'd love to celebrate your birthday.

This lemonade is nothing short of miraculous.

<staggers in>
A triple gin.
It's a tough world out there, dealing with people who use words they don't understand properly.

People using words wrong? That's incredulous! You'll be telling me next that the adverb is an endangered species!Grin

Chin-chin! or more correctly - I sense you'll expect the correct form after the day you've had - qing-qing 🍸Smile

Endangered adverbs? Unlikely.

DH and I spend our time shouting 'LY!' at the telly. Especially when sport is on, as the commentators there seem to be the worst offenders.

JanesLittleGirl · 30/07/2024 21:44

For reasons that I could not possibly explain, I ordered a Gin and IT when I got back to the hotel this evening. I haven't had one for at least 10 years. It was wonderful as was the one that followed it.

EdithStourton · 30/07/2024 22:03

I'm onto whisky now.
Qing-qing to all. Very hanyu pinyin.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 30/07/2024 22:20

I no longer have a professional outlet for my complaints about People Using Words Wrongly. I shall have to take up irritsble muttering.

Can't you complain about the wrong use of words as a hobby?

lcakethereforeIam · 30/07/2024 23:44

Yes, sort of. Do what my sister does, she's corrects the little written signs in waterstones

lcakethereforeIam · 30/07/2024 23:51

I never read them. I'm suspicious, possibly unfairly, that they'll give me an overdose of twee.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 31/07/2024 00:59

I may well take it up as a hobby. There's a sign I walk past every day with a comma in the wrong place and it's dangerously close to an art shop. It can only be a matter of time before I succumb.

Ditto.
Hence the whisky. Probably muttering would be better for my health.

Chersfrozenface · 31/07/2024 08:02

I'd forgotten that it's Beetle's birthday week. I can't think how, as it's mine as well.

I've currently got ear-related vertigo, so it's a Citra or similar for me, sadly.

Chersfrozenface · 31/07/2024 08:03

P.S. can someone please pass me an emotional support capybara?

EdithStourton · 31/07/2024 08:05

<passes capybara>
A wiser choice than the alpaca. Those buggers spit.

Anyway, can we have a joint birthday party? Do we need one large shared cake, or two smaller ones, suitably themed?
