The Bluestocking is reopening

It's time we reopened the Bluestocking, I think.

This is the FWR pub, situated in the charming village of Badley Fuckitt near the Shady Pines rest home. It has a cannon (for reasons lost in the mists of time), goats in the paddock next to the beer garden and a menu including many soups and cakes. It's open all hours, serving breakfast and tea to all weary women, in addition to being the ideal location to metaphorically drown your sorrows.

I'm the one that lost my shoes. I'm actually getting used to going barefoot, though I'm staying out of the goat pen.

I've heard a rumour that at least one shoe has been seen in a local town, perhaps it floated down stream. Some bloke's trying to persuade random women to see if it fits them for a chance to...well, I'm not exactly sure what. Something to do with balls!? To be honest, after hearing about that I'm not sure I'd even want my shoes back.

This roast lamb is so nice. Not too fatty. Sauce made with fresh mint. Crunchy roast spuds. All the gravy I desire. Just lovely.

When I've finished I think I'll go back to the stream and read a book on the cushions under the weeping willows.

I so want to do that. For real!

With one foot trailing in the water 😊

No1Mousie · 28/07/2024 17:58

I’ve never been here before, but can me and my corgis come in for a drink?

The corgis like a lawn to chase butterflies on, and I’d just like to sit and drink something chilled and bubbly in dappled shade.

I believe as long as the corgies don't plan on eating anyone's else's creatures they will be fine 😁

And it's just butterflies they chase not @quantumbutterfly ? And they don't have a thing for beetles do they?

No1Mousie · 28/07/2024 18:09

Thanks @Boiledbeetle 😊 The corgis are generally much more civilised than me, and as long as they get some scraps from the Sunday roast they’ll be fine! Me on the other hand? I’ll try to behave 🥂

Oh, are the adults supposed to behave?

<Stops bouncing like Tigger.>

<Goes and site quietly in the corn....>

Aghhhhh nope! I can't do it.

I might go visit the goats.

No1Mousie · 28/07/2024 18:34

@Boiledbeetle please can I come too, and I’ll bounce like Tigger too? And if we could pretend to be pirates too?

No1Mousie · 28/07/2024 18:37

Rather a lot of toos, but the bubbles are going to my head … (gently hiccuping whilst opening another bottle). Anyone fancy a glass?

StickItInTheFamilyAlbum · 28/07/2024 18:39

That honey biscuit recipe is a keeper.

I'll take a menu for this evening's dinner service, please.

I'm subatomic, they'll never find me.

No1Mousie · 28/07/2024 19:00

@quantumbutterfly given how short their legs are, you’ve got nothing to worry about!

Certainly.

Although I'm currently identifying as a ladybird this evening.

Can the pirates wait until we've finished the picnic or the goats will eat it all.

What's a pirate's favourite letter?

Their true love be the C!

I think my coats gone the same place my shoes have.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 28/07/2024 21:11

It's rather warm this evening, so I've been for a walk around the nature reserve. I didn't see any lost, singular flip flops, but I did see a flock of Lapwings.

In case of any future random, wildlife Bluestocking pub quiz questions, a flock of Lapwings is known as a Deceit of Lapwings.

quantumbutterfly · 28/07/2024 21:16

My son tells me that 2 crows are an attempted murder.

Boiledbeetle · 28/07/2024 21:37

I'm a swarm. Don't even get my own collective noun. Just get thrown in with all the other swarms of insects.

I want to be part of a death of beetles.

lcakethereforeIam · 28/07/2024 21:44

I think a group of gorillas are officially known as a 'flange' following a comedy sketch. And the spikes at the end of a stegosaurus's tail are called a 'thagomiser' following a Gary Larson cartoon,

I don't know what the collective noun for cake is. I sometimes suspect 'cake' is one of those words like 'sheep' or 'fish' where the plural is the same as the singular.

How about a 'scuttle' of beetles? I love the word 'scuttle'.
