The Bluestocking is reopening

It's time we reopened the Bluestocking, I think.

This is the FWR pub, situated in the charming village of Badley Fuckitt near the Shady Pines rest home. It has a cannon (for reasons lost in the mists of time), goats in the paddock next to the beer garden and a menu including many soups and cakes. It's open all hours, serving breakfast and tea to all weary women, in addition to being the ideal location to metaphorically drown your sorrows.

Dropping in for the legendary Bluestocking breakfast, while my stunt double heads off to do the pre-holiday shop. Have we got a library corner? I need to catch up on some reading.
Lovely to see this place open again. Thank you.

Ooh, lovely idea - I was just thinking of a calm little library corner. Maybe with a comfy sofa and a few plants? The vibe would be that company is always welcome but conversation not essential.

It’d also be a good place to stash the games cupboard. I can get a bit shouty when playing backgammon and would play that a few tables away so as not to disturb the library corner calm.

Since it’s such a lovely morning, I’m heading out to the pub garden to enjoy breakfast under the apple tree. I’ve warned the family not to expect me home for lunch as I might be some time (and heard beef is on the Sunday menu).

Can someone give me a helping hand to get out I've just heard my breakfast is ready

I'm going to be honest this cheese scone I ordered is rather sultanary and jammy. Not that that's going to stop me finishing eating it.

I picked up a cheese scone in the garden centre thinking it was plain, and smothered it in strawberry jam.

OMG! a taste sensation! this is now my scone combination of choice. Its kind of like having a doughy fruity cheesecake, a savoury/sweet mouthful of yumminess.

I don't know why its not a normal thing, brie goes with grapes, cheddar with apples, its not as mad as it sounds.

FuzzyPuffling · 28/07/2024 09:41

And Christmas cake is just wrong without a chunk of nice sharp-but-creamy Wensleydale cheese.

highame · 28/07/2024 10:02

I've just phoned the RNLI @Boiledbeetle , they'll be with you in an hour or so. Apparently you're not allowed those rubber ring things in the pool. Take it off immediately, drowning is immaterial!

If they don't arrive by 1, let me know. Do beetles get the shrivelled skin from too much time in the water?

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 28/07/2024 10:03

If anyone fancies a cup of tea in a bit, I'm about to bake some honey and oat biscuits. They're very buttery and slightly addictive.

Sounds like a variation of a Miner's Piece (white bread sandwich with cheese and strawberry jam).

lcakethereforeIam · 28/07/2024 10:15

I think there might be a drop too much bleach in the pool!😬

Have you seen what it's done to @Boiledbeetle ?

Mind, a few minutes in the sun and she'll be as white right as rain.

I based it on this, but gave them longer than the specified 12 minutes. More like 20-25, aka 'cook till nice'.

No wonder they take a while, they're 35g per biscuit (or so) and very thick. I'd need to make them more like 20-25g and thinner so the gannets only needed to wait 12 mins. (Lovely looking recipe.)

I'll bet I'll be having another go today Boiledbeetle. There's that Einstein quote about insanity and doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. I'm wearing my insanity hat as we speak. I'll just hang it in the corner

If your insanity hat is big enough you can use it as a bag to carry your bits upstairs.

Problem solving is my forte😉

Lovely to have The Bluestocking back. I'm a lurker, but would love to hang out in the beer garden on a Friday lunchtime with a glass of rose and a crab sandwich, as it's summer time. Or a cheese and tomato batch.

Émilie? Émilie du Châtelet ? Ça fait une éternité ! Comment vas-tu vielle branche?

Sorry, I've just spotted an old pal, we were at school together...well I was a few years ahead, but who's counting... What's that Em? 141 years 2 months and 11days ahead? Yes of course, you became a famous mathemician as well as a philosopher, didn't you?

Wasn't it lovely to see Olympe de Gouges at the Olympic opening ceremony? I didn't know her personally, did you? She was a few years below you in school, wasn't she? 41years 4 months and 20 days? was it really, Em...

Anyway.. lovely to catch up, see you at Les Femmes Savantes for un petit coup de rosé one of these daysSmile

quantumbutterfly · 28/07/2024 12:43

Is it gin o' clock yet?

Who lost their shoes? I could have a crack at making you some out of beer mats and bar towels. Do you think Blue Peter would be interested?

Boiledbeetle · 28/07/2024 13:03

An I'mm back in the room. A little soggy, but they were lovely blokes. apart from the one who suggested I may like to think about learning to swim and eating less!

These are excellent ideas. Just need to decide what to read first. And finish off this lovely roast pork roll.
Glad you are drying out boiled.

Totally dried off, the Puckering is starting to fade!

After all the thrashing about like a drowning beetle gentle swimming of this morning I worked up quite the appetite.

I'm just working my way through my beef, lamb, two roasties, 24 Yorkshire puddings and jug of gravy. I think I've overdone it with the mint sauce though.

I'm the one that lost my shoes. I'm actually getting used to going barefoot, though I'm staying out of the goat pen.

I've heard a rumour that at least one shoe has been seen in a local town, perhaps it floated down stream. Some bloke's trying to persuade random women to see if it fits them for a chance to...well, I'm not exactly sure what. Something to do with balls!? To be honest, after hearing about that I'm not sure I'd even want my shoes back.

This roast lamb is so nice. Not too fatty. Sauce made with fresh mint. Crunchy roast spuds. All the gravy I desire. Just lovely.

When I've finished I think I'll go back to the stream and read a book on the cushions under the weeping willows.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 28/07/2024 14:36

The honey biscuits are ready, just need to cool down a bit! I do as well, that kitchen's hot.

Could I pinch a couple of biccies please? I'm on a bit of a health kick but with it being a Sunday, I don't think there are calories in biscuits and buns, are there?

If you break them in half the calories fall out.

Please do!

Got plenty of makings for another batch, so help yourself.

lcakethereforeIam · 28/07/2024 15:22

If you want three biscuits but you only eat two...two and a half, then the calories don't count. Or eat them with lettuce, that makes them calorie free too.
