Roz Adams was employed by Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre (ERCC) as a counsellor. She is claiming constructive dismissal for Gender Critical (GC) beliefs. The CEO of ERCC is a well known transwoman known for, among other things, controversial "reframe your trauma" remarks.

Leave Comic Sans alone, you fontophobic beast!

I am dyslexic, and wherever possible compose my documents in CS as I find it easier to read. Then I convert them to Times New Roman to send on.

Yellow paper helps, too.

I think many of us nurture a secret fondness for CS.

Right I've had to go and do other annoying life stuff so have pages to catch up on. Has it been more of the same? I hope I can get back in.....

Boiledbeetle · 24/01/2024 14:04

And i think today so far has gone wonderfully for ERCC!

Wonderfully badly that is!

Her answers have been incredibly illuminating

Chrysanthemum5 · 24/01/2024 14:04

Still WFTCHTJ - I think it takes time as there are now so many watching!

I must go back and reread The Crucible.

The parallel with gender ideology is frightening.

If anyone wants to hear more about how ideologies take hold, I’d recommend the last episode in the recent Rest Is History podcast on the rise of the Nazis (not - and I must make this clear - that I am equating the eroding of women’s rights with the genocide of 6m Jews)

Oh, I don't know Sisterpita, I've come across some lawyers who take on car crash or hopeless cases with the intention of taking professional pride in getting the best outcome possible in the circumstances.

'Best possible' in this case presumably being none of the witnesses' pants actually, physically igniting while on the stand.

I must say the clerk/s on this tribunal have been great, no denying entry or papers please nonsense.

Yes, she's continued to raise the profile of how ercc treats women rape victims!

Yes, a nice change from Jo Phoenix's tribunal

Yes. Truly dreadful that a woman in such need would be told lies at a time of such vulnerability. AND then be blamed and name called if she can’t deal with it.

I do think it might harm women who have accessed this centre. They didn't get an opportunity to give informed consent about the sex of who was supporting them. It does matter, for example in group work there is a shared commonality amongst survivors about the culture of consent, blame and female development - if you are thinking that there is a female counsellor in the room you say things about this shared commonality that you think they will 'get' because every female experiences these slight erosions of consent from girlhood. I opened up about some really intimate stuff from childhood and puberty that I would NEVER have discussed in front of a biological male. I would be denied the chance to do the safety planning that I always do around unfamiliar men.

It's also making me question lots of things about the process that I have tried very hard to forget, like were the women at the SARC I went to actually biological women?

Appalonia · 24/01/2024 14:08

We don't employ men!

IcakethereforeIam · 24/01/2024 14:08

Helen Saxby has a recent article out (in Unherd or the Critic) about parallels between the ongoing post office horror story and the persecution of people who haven't sufficiently bowed before gender ideology.

Appalonia · 24/01/2024 14:09

For us TWAW

nauticant · 24/01/2024 14:10

NC is pointing out that the ERCC policies cannot state that there are any biologically male people working at ERCC. For one very good reason.

I must go back and reread The Crucible.

I recently read Stacy Shchiff's "The Witches: Salem 1692" which is an intense, detailed look at the existing records and background context to try and understand what exactly happened. The most interesting part for me was the description of the aftermath, when there was a kind of embarrassed reluctance to talk about it for many decades. As nobody really wanted to recall how a town appeared to collectively lose its mind. Much food for thought.

Appalonia · 24/01/2024 14:11

What makes it clear in ur statement you may encounter a TW?

It says TWAW

Boiledbeetle · 24/01/2024 14:11

Thinks statement saying twaw is sufficient it seems

Iris Child: I will not say it

I think of this poem every time there's a tribunal or every time I worry a woman will be injured or imprisoned for believing sex is material.

say it!
say it!
say it please!
just repeat it after me

what if I hit you in the head?
what if I claim you want me dead?

not if you're backed
not if I'm sacked
not for your please
not on my knees
not to a judge
I will not budge

I do not want to tell a lie
and say that you're the same as I

I will not say it just for you
I will not say what isn't true
I will not say it from a jail

I will always know you're…

Oh this is perfect. It’s magnificent. I’m going to memorise it.
Thanks everyone for all the poetry!
