'...we are mammals, sexually reproducing, two sexes, male and female. Sex is binary and even people with disorders of sexual development are male or female'

Good to get more of this very basic info out there.

This is what gender ideology is fighting to deny. Let's keep that in mind.

Igmum · 15/01/2024 18:21

Just caught up on the TT website. Thanks OP. She is really impressive. Given how lunatic some Scottish judges are on this issue I'm worried but I think RA is a pretty amazing person who I'd love to see working with vulnerable women. And yes, absolutely appalling that MW's political views take priority over rape victims needs.

ArabellaScott · 15/01/2024 18:28

Just copying and pasting some of those tweets.
Here is where RA talks about Rape Crisis national standards:

'operating principles for Rape Crisis nationally, across england&Wales and Scotland
ERCC have it on their website and say they adhere to them, but, there has been no process of benchmarking etc - it's just said'

'5.5 here, says staff and volunteers are aware of their own beliefs and prejudices and will put them aside to deal with victims properly'

'So the woman I mentioned - told not welcome - the gender identity ideology has been put ahead of her needs. Belief not set aside.'

'7.6 says women should have the oppurtunity to work with a woman. The word "woman" has become contested but when these were written, I think it's clear they're saying women should be able to access women-only services'

'And here - it says anyone turned away or decides not to come should be helped to find a service that can help them instead'

'So the refusal to refer to BP - or even mention it, even when their own waiting list full - that is IMO not complhying with the standards'

RA seems very compassionate, thoughtful and sensible. The very best of luck to her.

'Evidence is scheduled to be heard in the Edinburgh Employment Tribunal from 15 to 24 January 2024.'

lordloveadog · 15/01/2024 18:37

Wow, that's a surprise case! I'm sorry RA has gone through this, but brilliant that she is bringing the case and has Naomi Cunningham on it. She sounds very articulate and well prepared.

DrSpartacularsScathingTinsel · 15/01/2024 18:44

All fingers crossed for her. From reading TTs tweets she sounds exceptionally clear and focused in her responses. I'm guessing her professional background is a real help here, and hopefully will help when she's cross examined.

guinnessguzzler · 15/01/2024 17:23

Absolutely scandalous that ERCC refuses to refer / signpost to Beira's Place. I mean, lots of things they're doing are appalling but to not even pass someone the basic information about where else they could go when you are refusing to help them really is shoddy. And the time being wasted on this because the Trustees wouldn't hold MW to account, and frankly employed MW in the first place when it is obvious how it would end up. I think the result from this could be very significant.

This stood out to me too. Why on earth wouldn't they refer on? It's not like rape crisis centres are in competition Hmm

Appalonia · 15/01/2024 18:54

This case makes me so angry. I've worked at a rape crisis centre, and men weren't even allowed in the building! They did see male victims, but only on a day when there were no female clients. This appalling dereliction of duty is where self id has got us. I hope the place gets shut down. That poor woman who was told she was unsuitable to be helped. My god, how desperate and let down she must have felt.

NecessaryScene · 15/01/2024 18:58

This is what gender ideology is fighting to deny. Let's keep that in mind.

This is yet another example of what Helen Joyce's latest newsletter is going into - this being a "huge problem in a sane world".

She's recommitting to having said that in 2022, citing things like this as an example, and she's now going further - she believes the fully-manifested forms of this belief could fail Grainger criteria 5 (that Maya Forstater's passed on appeal):

"It must be worthy of respect in a democratic society, be not incompatible with human dignity and not conflict with the fundamental rights of others."

Paywalled, but I'll quote a bit:

So when I say a believer in gender identity might have a belief that is NWORIADS [not worthy of respect in a democratic society], I’m talking about someone who says gender identity is the one true test of whether someone is a man or a woman, and really means it. Someone who doesn’t just say “woman” means “people who say they’re women”, but who acts and advocates for the logical consequences. Who, if they were “assigned male at birth” but identify as a woman, would barge into women’s spaces and play in women’s sports, and who would, whether trans-identified or not, seek to get anyone who objected fired, blacklisted by the media and so on. Who thinks that children should be treated as the sex they say they are, and seeks to bring down the might of the law on any parent or teacher who won’t go along with that. Such people hold a belief that’s inherently rights-destroying, and incompatible with the dignity of others.

Joyce activated, issue 70

What I learned from the biggest social-media blow-up I’ve ever been involved in – when I said that people who believe in gender-identity ideology are a “huge problem in a sane world”.

I'm delighted that such a sane, articulate, sensible-sounding woman now works at Beira's Place. I can't help surmising that the lack of a crowdfunder might have some connection with her new employer's main funder.

I was wondering about this.

Gettingmadderallthetime · 15/01/2024 19:54

I imagine that having media attention in the run up to the case cannot be something that a Rape Crisis Centre wants, so not having to crowdfund must have been really helpful. Less stressful for the claimant and for the places involved in this case. She is definitely impressive and I am very interested to know what the arguments against her points are.

Re the Respondants changes in materials, from the judge's comments it sounds like this is the addition of new material. Not removal of stuff no longer to be used. Its intriguing. (I suspect I will be less productive in other areas of my life until this is over). Did someone mention its until the 24th Jan. That will be a lot of statements.

Forester1 · 15/01/2024 19:58

Thanks for sharing - will be following with interest

Datun · 15/01/2024 20:28

I agree with others that the lack of a crowd funder, the lack of publicity, and the fact that JKR set up Beira's Place might well indicate a spot of strategic litigation.

I certainly hope so.

The complete dismantling of using raped women to validate men can't come soon enough.

Following, and thankful for everyon'es commentary.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 16/01/2024 00:08

Is it likely that MW will give evidence? I hear that MW is off sick and has been for a while - can they compell witnesses to attend?

redfacebigdisgrace · 16/01/2024 00:28

Very interesting. Just googled- I did not know this…

“Maggie Chapman, who was chief operating officer of ERCC when Wadhwa was appointed, and is now a Green MSP”
