Vogue magazine has published a piece by Emily Bridges:

I Was Banned From Competitive Cycling Because I’m Trans. That Won’t Stop Me Fighting For My Rights.

Full of the usual hogwash and inaccuracies, and the discredited CCES report is doing some heavy lifting.

And apparently they will be trying to take British Cycling to court. We shall see.

I Was Banned From Competitive Cycling Because I’m Trans. That Won’t Stop Me Fighting For My Rights

Cyclist Emily Bridges has been competitively racing since she was 10 years old, but now, due to new policies introduced by British Cycling, she’s been banned from competing in the women’s category.

Wow, didn’t realise how backwards mumsnetters could be. Regardless of whether you agree with this sort of thing or not, the people insulting her appearance are incredibly small and pathetic human beings and I hope they address your own low self esteem in therapy.

It’s not “backward” to object to publications like Vogue gaslighting their readers.

No amount of careful posing, airbrushing and digital manipulation will change the fact that Bridges is male and is not banned from competitive cycling.

Her? Who are you talking about?

No lack of self esteem here, buddy.
Indeed I'd say the self esteem collectively on MN is off the charts. I'm proud to be amongst this bunch.

Maybe you ought to address your self esteem jibe at Emily, and particularly the mother.
In any other age, your offspring picking up an sporting career ending injury would lead to therapy to boost self esteem in finding new outlets for the competitive spirit, or to deal with loss and depression.

Today? That "self esteem" is at the expense of every other female that Emily has raced against, that the "rules" have permitted.

We truly are in the Age Of The Narcissistic Authentic Self.

Emily can have self esteem for cheating applauded by Vogue, and cheerleaders like you can snipe at women for calling it out.

It's 'his' appearance that we're insulting.

Where’s the compassion and kindness for women athletes?

You know, the ones that haven’t gained a myriad of physical advantages through male puberty.

shuddupayaface · 29/08/2023 14:38

I wasn’t disagreeing with anyone on the trans women competing in female sports issue. I merely took issue with the anti-trans/personal attacks. Completely unnecessary and cruel (although I understand people project their own insecurities, we are human after all).
Again: Compassion, kindness and open-mindedness will cure the bitterness :D

MavisMcMinty · 29/08/2023 14:41

Yes, compassion, kindness and open-mindedness towards women would be very, very welcome. The threats and violence come from one side only.

IcakethereforeIam · 29/08/2023 14:53

Not calling people 'bigots', is a good place to start. I usually find that the ones throwing around accusations of 'bigotry' need a dictionary and a good look in the mirror. Btw, report any posts that contain transphobia, I don't recall any but it's been a few days since I read the thread.

I've not seen anyone criticising Bridge's appearance. Are you on the right website?

enchantedsquirrelwood · 29/08/2023 14:58

"Transphobia" is an irrational fear of transpeople.

I don't think anyone is scared of transpeople, and if there's no fear, there's no irrationality. Ergo, no transphobia.

People are annoyed at male-bodied people literally muscling into womens' sport and then getting plaudits for it.

Not the same.

Baldieheid · 29/08/2023 16:17

I'm all out of compassion for males who shove in where they know they're not meant to be, shoving women aside in the process. I used up all my fucks about that a long long time ago. Soz.

Not calling people 'bigots', is a good place to start.

Yes, here's a scenario: a woman says,

"Please keep out of our toilets, you make me feel nervous."

The reply will be, "Die, bitch! Die in a grease fire, you Nazi! Your words are violence! I'm going to get my baseball bat and pound you, you vile bigot!"

They've definitely got hold of the wrong end of the bigot stick.

This is a delightful selection of quotes from this thread:
“Was Banned From Women’s Competitive Cycling Because I’m Male”
“If India had a brain they’d be dangerous”
“these fellas hate women”
“If you were truly a woman”
“Emily doesn't look good in this Vogue shoot tho. Emily looks like 2010 era Julian assange.”
“his gruff, manly voice”
Anti-trans, boderline (or fully?) racist, backwards.
Why not stick to the science? Why attack a marginalised community for the sake of progressing your anti-progressive ideals?
Btw I even hold compassion for bigots, because somewhere along the line they suffered trauma or brainwashing that led them to their misguided and inhumane conclusions. I’m just sad for the people that suffer at their hands (or words in this case).
I’m sad that people feel the need to hide who they are because of this kind of aggressive rhetoric.

SinnerBoy · 29/08/2023 17:19

“his gruff, manly voice”

What's wrong with my perfectly accurate description of them's typically masculine voice? Have you actually heard they speak?

Baldieheid · 29/08/2023 17:28

Its a Shakespearean tragedy, so it is.

Amidst thy compassionate hand wringing for the males who like to stomp over women, couldst thou perchance find a moment of mercy in thy heart, nay, thy conscience, for those of the fairer sex who lost opportunities at the hands of they thou proclaimeth to beist the mostest marginalisest in the wholest widest world?

shuddupayaface · 29/08/2023 17:30

Purposefully misgendering and saying something you are fully aware would be taken as offensive by any female presenting person, what’s the point other than blatant cruelty?

Oh my poor liberal woke heart is positively broken from this ingenious mocking of my human emotion, I am humbled, truly ;)
Get to know some trans people or speak to a psychologist who specialises in trans issues. Open your mind and your heart, fight the urge to take your trauma out on others, let people live and love and be who they want to be :) peace baby ✌️ 🤣

Theeyeballsinthesky · 29/08/2023 17:39

Wait wait no one told me it was bingo day!

I’ll just cross off “Bigots” , “be kind” and “get to know some trans people”

have we had “but intersex” yet?

I Was Banned From Women’s Competitive Cycling Because I’m Male is quite clearly a correction for Emily’s (patently untrue) headline I Was Banned From Competitive Cycling Because I’m Trans.

And as for “If India had a brain they’d be dangerous” that could equally be said about anyone making stupid (and frequently racist) comments.

And as for “purposefully misgendering” - why does anyone have to buy in to something that is akin to a religious belief?

Open my mind.

And my heart?

Whatcha trying to do, kill me? Also, the Swiss cheese holes in the brain look doesn't suit me. Looks good on you though.

shuddupayaface · 29/08/2023 18:05

Trans women are women, psychologically and socially, if not physically.
I’m secure enough in my womanhood to make space for those who feel like a woman but weren’t born so. Despite the anti-woke propaganda, this will not affect women negatively. It especially won’t lead to massively increased suicide rates for women up to the level they’re at for the trans population.

MavisMcMinty · 29/08/2023 18:07

Ah, I see @shuddupayaface is on duty this afternoon and evening. I wonder if they will have anything new to say, something we’ve not heard before, something profound that will change our stubborn bigoted minds?
