Vogue magazine has published a piece by Emily Bridges:

I Was Banned From Competitive Cycling Because I’m Trans. That Won’t Stop Me Fighting For My Rights.

Full of the usual hogwash and inaccuracies, and the discredited CCES report is doing some heavy lifting.

And apparently they will be trying to take British Cycling to court. We shall see.

I Was Banned From Competitive Cycling Because I’m Trans. That Won’t Stop Me Fighting For My Rights

Cyclist Emily Bridges has been competitively racing since she was 10 years old, but now, due to new policies introduced by British Cycling, she’s been banned from competing in the women’s category.

Will the sporting organisations that have finally protected female athletes do something to correct the errors made in handing prizes and records to males competing in the female category?

It's clearly been a mistake. Seems obvious to me, therefore, that those prizes, medals, trophies, records, stats and all oney won should be reclaimed from the males who were allowed to claim them, and given to the real winner.

It's the only way to restore justice.

I doubt it, sadly, because they were following the rules at the time. Same goes for the DSD athletes at the Rio Olympics getting all the female 800m medals. Even though they can't compete now, they could at the time, so no rules were broken.

And following up on another point, yes MN is very good for learning, and FWR in particular.

I'm guessing that means certain males will hold certain female records forever more then.

What a pile of 💩

The bit in bold in my post was a quote from our drive by scolder.

And I agree 100% with you.

Yes, sorry I quoted the wrong item there!

It is, although going back to the 800m I do think the likes of Keely Hodgkinson and Mary Moraa can achieve records.

With parkruns, we just need some of the elite ladies to go to the ones where the course record is held by Longthorpe etc and beat it. A few weeks ago Louise Small (not quite elite elite, but right up there) ran Teignmouth parkrun and achieved a new ladies ourse record of 17 minutes. I thought it was a pity she hadn't gone to Parke - I think she could have beaten Longthorpe's record there.

Interestingly there was an article on Twitter about Longthorpe having run an ultra at the weekend in the female category but someone realised and s/he was put into the non binary category so a woman won her rightful prize. What was particularly interesting about this was that some years ago Longthorpe was interviewed for Womens Running magazine and specifically said that they would not compete in the female category at races. But s/he did. Maybe s/he won't again.

Theres absolutely no way of doing that without ending up being sued or dragged through the CAS. Those wins were legal under the rules at the time, however wrong the rules might have been. The reason Armstrong et al got stripped of their palmares was because they were found to have been cheating under the rules that were in place at the time.

CrazyArmadilloLady · 30/08/2023 21:28

The point is, literally everyone except the mediocre male-bodied people in question KNOW they cheated and didn’t win honestly.

Even the mediocre male-bodied people know in their heart of hearts that they cheated.

Hence the pathetically drastic measures they took to cheat.

Baldieheid · 30/08/2023 21:51

Okay, so wins are stuck but surely records could be struck off. They're not female records, they're records set by a male in the female category.

It's so unfair that those would be allowed to stand for perhaps decades, maybe even forever. In 40 years time the record could still stand, with the fact that the record setter was actually male being lost to time. That's infuriating.
