@shuddupayaface- would you want to be incarcerated with Isla Bryson or one of the other men convicted of sexual assault crimes and/or rape against women?
Even though I’m unlikely to go to prison any time soon, I will admit that I wouldn’t. And so I understand why other women already in prison wouldn’t want to, either.
There are some single-sex spaces I don’t want to share with any male-bodied people, however they identify. It doesn’t matter to me if they ID as a man, or as a woman, I still don’t want to share space with them.
It’s nothing personal. I just don’t want male-bodied people in single sex spaces with me.
This isn’t just about trans people. As someone who’s lived in the world, I’m aware that there are plenty of men who’d take advantage of being able to ID their way into single sex spaces for nefarious intent. I have a 13YO DD who plays sports and uses changing rooms. Should I just not worry about her safety?
Due to so many transwomen insisting on access to lesbian spaces, I’m also aware that many transwomen are full intact male-bodied people, and sexually attracted to women.
This makes me deeply uncomfortable, and is why I would like to maintain single sex spaces.
I am not saying all transwomen mean me harm, just as I am not saying all men mean me harm. I know they don’t.
But the ones who do, don’t come with handy signs.
Which is why we’ve always simply excluded male-bodied people from our single sex spaces.
It’s to ensure women’s safety, privacy and dignity.
And it’s not ‘progressive’ to do away with our rights to safety, privacy and dignity. It’s not ‘progressive’ to threaten us with violence when we express concerns about the erosion of our rights.
I would ask you to show some compassion and kindness for these valid concerns.
