The image has become popular because there’s no other way of showing a trans person clearly in a cartoon drawing unless we want to unleash the fake boob/penis combo on the public.

I note with interest that the usual inclusion drive to include all skin tones has been abandoned here. Every trans man is peachy pink.

I'm happy to say I haven't used Costa since March 2020 and I used to be a regular. That won't be changing.

And why is that?

'We want everyone that interacts with us to experience the inclusive environment that we create, to encourage people to feel welcomed, free and unashamedly proud to be themselves. The mural, in its entirety, showcases and celebrates inclusivity.' (from the Mail article)

So why pick that one single image then?

Might bimble into Costa tomorrow with my tits out. I'm sure they'll be very inclusive and appreciate me being unashamedly myself.

Don't fret, I'll make sure I self ID as a man just before I push the door open So it's all above board. That's how this shit works right?

I believe so!

I bet they aren't quite as inclusive to you though!

Beenhereforever1978 · 01/08/2023 00:13

But I'm bringing my whole self to work?

Granted its not my workplace but nobody was specific.

SmoothSeasDoNotMakeGoodSailors · 01/08/2023 00:36

I was relatively young, certainly immature when my mum showed me her mastectomy scar. She had terminal breast cancer and I was devastated at the thought of losing her. I'm still so ashamed of how I reacted, I ran out of the room in the throws of a panic attack. She died 20 years ago, and I still live with the shame of that moment, I let her down. A couple of years ago I saw some kids hanging out by the river and realised one of them was a TM who had the same scars. I had a panic attack then, at the memory. This is so far not from ok. This is not something to be celebrated.

"Completely routine and normal", though

Clearly costa and Dr Martens targeted at the same demographic; both designs look like they are from the same company!

If I bought DMs and liked Costa (I think its coffee is awful!) I would be boycotting them.

Deeply concerning.

Shocked by the Costa ad! Will they next show a body with scars on the arm
Where skin was cut to perform the phalloplasty for a transman??

@Aitchoo what is the connection with Dr Marten? Do they have similar ads?

Illegallyblonder · 01/08/2023 03:13

I’ve emailed them and I’m boycotting them.

Rightsraptor · 01/08/2023 03:29

Completely routine and normal eh, Dr Webberley?

Everyone got that? Helen Webberley of Gender GP says it's completely routine and normal to amputate young women's healthy breasts.

As to all these lives that are being taken each year - evidence please.

My daughter works for Costa (she's 18) - I texted her to tell her Boycott Costa was trending.

She hadn't heard anything about it. She's kind of mildly Terfy - not really very interested in the issue but says it's all "a bit silly " and "everyone's non-binary really".

Her response after I told her what it was about was "conservatives always make a big fuss about nothing".

I wonder how much we think about the best way of appealing to young women? On the one hand I suspect a lot of them secretly find it all a bit tiresome - on the other anything that gets associated with conservatism and the right wing generally tends to get the thumbs down from people this age. As the conversation opens up it's worth thinking about.

You can't. Their minds aren't developed

loopyloutoo · 31/07/2023 20:12

Sorry but I don't get the hysteria? Are you sure that's what they mean? Maybe it's just design or am I being naive? Like nobody has lips like that either - how has it got anything to do with coffee?

You are naive

gingerguineapig · 31/07/2023 21:03

Yes, it is very annoying. You don't eg have much choice at motorway service areas. Maybe Greggs instead - have they done anything to upset people?

Greggs support this

Looks sensible and helpful for children.

I've u subscribed from Costa and emailed them to tell them why not that they'll email me back or anything.

It's my little protest against their glorification of mutilating women and girls. How is this any different to FMG?

Oh wait, one set of mutilation is carried out by backward cultures so therefore their kids need saving. But the other one is practiced mainly by the white western community so is therefore life saving in the words of Dr. Webberly. The whole movement smacks of racist, saviour complex.

Helleofabore · 01/08/2023 06:01

That is actually a vile tweet from Webberly. How dare any doctor declare this operation, cutting down off healthy breast tissue, as being completely ‘routine and normal’ in any way.

The negative side effects of this operation is continually being downplayed. And is now being glamourised. This is such concerning behaviour from any doctor.

Helleofabore · 01/08/2023 07:00

Littlesprouts · 01/08/2023 00:36

"Completely routine and normal", though

Did Webberly mean to say this was a mental health issue?

That removal of healthy breast tissue is imperative to treat a mental health issue?

Gosh! I wonder if she realizes yet that she has gone off script, the extreme trans activists must be popping. What a slip up.

Of course, most everyone else realises that extreme body modification surgeries and drugs are most certainly not standard treatment and should never be considered ‘routine and normal procedure’.

The equivalent is offering gastric sleeves to anorexics surely?

broomers · 01/08/2023 07:06

I won't share the article link because it's on the Daily Mail but saw Dr Martens apparently being criticised for promoting these boots by an artist that claims periods have no gender!

merrymelodies · 01/08/2023 07:14

Wow. Mind blown.

MrsJamin · 01/08/2023 07:54

This is utterly horrendous. I have:

  • sent an email to Costa via their contact us link on the app saying I will never buy from them again
  • selected to deleted my account in the app.
  • u installed the app
If you are going to boycott Costa please do tell them and delete your account too. This is the way we give them a clear indication you mean business.
