Trans Widows are the only mothers of our children.

I don't want this claim by @bathhy to get lost in a thread that will no doubt go along the usual lines.

"As a trans woman mother who uses Mumsnet, I would never recommend coming here."

Trans women can never be the mother of any child. We women, the trans widows who are usually your exes, who give birth to those children are their mother and always will be.

If you adopt a child, you can be the child's parent, but as a male you are not the child's mother.

Trans widows say no to having our status and legal responsibility as mother taken from us.

Women here must not allow forced teaming from men who wish to appropriate our status as the mothers of our children.

Every woman here should consider how they would feel if the father of their child after having taken so much from them already, then demanded to be called "Mum."

Well, of course. It’s just illusion, piled on self deception, piled on arrogance.

ExiledElsie · 27/02/2023 17:11

I point this out every time someone tells me that they can have "woman" but not female.

It's nonsense, they want all the words that apply to women and girls. I have seen mother, daughter, sister, girl all claimed by men. They can sod off.

TinaYouFatLard · 27/02/2023 17:12

They want everything that’s ours. Keep saying NO.

turnthebiglightoff · 27/02/2023 17:13

The thing that sticks in my craw is how casually you could disregard your status as a father. Being a father should always be something you are proud of. Regardless of your gender, if you are a father you will always be a father. Same goes for being a mother. How sad to just throw that mantle off, regardless of what your child may think or feel.

BigFrau · 27/02/2023 17:13

Yes I saw that.

No.

The word "mother" is taken.

IcakethereforeIam · 27/02/2023 17:13

I'm glad you caught that, I misinterpreted it as mother of a transwoman. Cheeky non-bleeders.

Thelnebriati · 27/02/2023 17:14

Currently the Gender Recognition Act states;
12 Parenthood
The fact that a person’s gender has become the acquired gender under this Act does not affect the status of the person as the father or mother of a child.
www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2004/7/section/12

I know there are politicians on both sides who want to 'update and modernise' the GRA but I don't think this should be changed.

Completely agree.

Men can’t be mothers

what a silly sausage he is

Ofcourseshecan · 27/02/2023 17:54

Trans women can never be the mother of any child.

True. But it would be nice if they would make an effort at being a good father.

This is very true & something I'd not thought of before - thanks for pointing this out.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/02/2023 18:06

If they hate being called a father, surely 'parent' fits the bill nicely? There's no good reason to try to appropriate 'mother'.

LangClegsInSpace · 27/02/2023 18:07

100% agree.

JoodyBlue · 27/02/2023 18:14

Completely agree Tinsel. Also, if as a parent you aspire to be a meaningful part of your offspring's world, but for some reason you can't stay around to be dad, then it is your absolute duty to support the mother in every way you can. I mean the person who gave birth/life to the child.

Bathhy · 27/02/2023 18:19

Did you really get so upset at my post you made this thread

midgemadgemodge · 27/02/2023 18:21

Tinsel I noticed that - quite revolting , trying to strip mothers of their motherhood - the bonding with a child during pregnancy, giving birth

I hope it hadn't upset people too much - remember it's a minority view even here in Scotland

Bathhy · 27/02/2023 18:23

Also what does this have to do about trans widows???

Thelnebriati · 27/02/2023 18:25

MadamAndTheAnts · 27/02/2023 18:25

If a kid can have two lesbian mums (with one being the birth mother), a transwoman can also be a mum, although not a birth mother.

If you don’t believe a transwoman can have any title traditionally associated with women, then this thread is the typical yawn fest you get here

ResisterRex · 27/02/2023 18:26

I missed the thread but I was thinking about this in respect of Haldane and the failed attempt to change a child's birth certificate such that the mother who gave birth, then became the father. Not sure the legal sex "for all purposes" is correct legally, thinking of those two together.

It's certainly not correct ethically or in the court of public opinion. It's trying to completely rewrite history and expunge mothers from their place. The words woman, mother, girl have established meanings and are taken. Males can't have them.

No they can't because they're not female.

Try reading the OP’s post again.
Men cannot be mothers.
The position is taken.
