I thought MPs were bound by some standards of behaviour?

Yesterday the leader of the SNP at WM called his peers 'rabid gammon', which was shocking, but what I found more disturbing was Llloyd Russell-Moyle's verbal attack on Miriam Cates (clip above).

I actually found his behaviour frightening and alarming, and can't imagine how it must feel to have that venom directed at you by a colleague - let alone the slanderous accusations made.

Is it possible to make a complaint to the Labour Party about his behaviour?

I used to live down the road from a dominatrices' (a few worked there) dungeon. It was entirely unmarked. The punters/clients would have to ring the bell and wait to be let in.

I've never seen videos of this guy before, or him in the flesh, but the first thing that came to mind watching those videos was that he matches a type I'd seen waiting to be let in

It's almost too like he doth protest too much.

Written to the Chief Whip, I think it's important. So many parallels with the anti-semitism stuff, sections of Labour are utterly toxic to women. LRM makes my flesh crawl.

It was vile. Frightening. The finger-pointing fury at a woman who dared to admit to being uneasy about encountering a man in a women's toilet. Where does that anger and contempt for women come from?

He didn't even explain why he thought the man Cates encountered was 'trans': he was presumably trans and thereby entitled to be in the ladies' simply by being there. For many men who have this fury against women, the word "transphobia" is just a replacement for the word "misandry". The men at Pink News excelled themselves today reporting on this man's bigotry (sorry, "Cates' awful bigotry"): her 'claim' that men are stronger than women is "a hateful narrative" that "is not based in actual science"; and "she failed to cite a scientific body or peer-reviewed study" to show that women are "wary of men in intimate spaces". This mad stuff is well and truly through the looking glass.

Did they actually write that? What idiots they are.

If they don't believe women are wary of men in their spaces, what the fuck do they think this entire issue is all about????

Selina Todd is still a professor at Oxford and involved with WPUK I think?

Laura Pidcock lost her seat at the 2019 election – otherwise, she would have made a much stronger candidate for Labour leader than either Rayner or Long-Bailey.

Thank you

When I hear this, I am hearing davros in Dr Who getting wound up to then scream ‘exterminate’!

Same energy.

OMG I just wanted to say the same. 100% Dalek.

I used to know a dominatix in his neck of the woods actually. Nice woman.

I know. It is horrific. I would be far too scared to write or go to his surgery. What would be the point?

I would advise against writing to him. If you recall, one woman and Labour party member who Russell-Moyle employed as a caseworker went on to briefly gain national notoriety for calling a baby a fascist at the Standing For Women Meeting in Brighton. Then, it was alleged she had a history of privately contacting GC women and women's rights campaigners to send them abusive messages.

Russell-Moyle cannot be reasoned with, he cannot be negotiated with, and I would not trust any of his team with identifying information. The only path forward is to vote him out, or persuade the Labour party to replace him as candidate next election.

Cheekymaw · 19/01/2023 06:04

Omg was that his Staffer? The "fascist baby" woman? Explains it all! Jeez how do these people get the jobs /get elected ?? What a state we are in ! Honestly so bloody depressing! Russell-Moyle's always looks like he is going to blow a fuse! So much hate and anger ! Whereas Miriam Cates and Rosie Duffield are calm and thoughtfully discussing the issues.
I've wrote off to the Chief Lab Whip tonight as well. A fiver that nothing will happen to him but worth a try.

Helleofabore · 19/01/2023 06:25

Yes. Fascist baby screamer was one of this MP’s staff.

It was little surprise to discover that Carly-May Kavanagh was Russell-Moyle’s staff.

ohfook · 19/01/2023 06:28

Wow I know it's not fully the point of the thread but I'm not familiar with Miriam Cates at all but she was fabulous. Straight to the point and clear as day. What a legend.

BirmaBrite · 19/01/2023 09:16

I think the thing that probably really got to him was when she said the law should be based on fact !

ArabellaScott · 19/01/2023 09:24

her 'claim' that men are stronger than women is "a hateful narrative" that "is not based in actual science";

Oh, gosh.

Just this prick alone will ensure I never vote Labour.

RoyalCorgi · 19/01/2023 09:31

The interview with Selina Todd is really chilling. I've never heard it before but you gather everything about him from his tone and the way he talks then. Really scary stuff.

Professor Todd is so eloquent. I think we're fortunate on our side that we have so many highly articulate women (Helen Joyce is another example) who are able to make a calm, well-reasoned argument with great fluency. It's such a contrast to people like Russell Moyle, India Willoughby and so on whose tenor runs the gamut from highly emotive to spit-flecked rage.

Lottapianos · 19/01/2023 09:32

Oh gosh yes, I'm sure he's all about the 'actual science' 🙄

Bellaisoneluckywoman · 19/01/2023 09:38

Repulsive man. I sent a complaint to [email protected] yesterday saying I hoped he was being formally disciplined.

Its almost like they expect to be listened to and get their own way just by shouting...

From the protest outside last night.

Same old misogyny.

AdamRyan · 19/01/2023 10:08

Women learn to be assertive not aggressive to put their point across, as any hint of aggression can trigger a even more aggressive response from a man, or the point could be discounted as the woman is overemotional/hysterical

Men get more focus on what they say, not how they say it so they don't get as much training in being measured

SinnerBoy · 19/01/2023 10:18

@BaronMunchausen

Re the Pink News rubbish about men not being stronger than women, they publish so many lies that they ought to be banned. It happened to Russia Today an the Iranian news channel.

Yes, this is exactly this. He was a man dressed in women's clothing, as she described, therefore he was automatically trans to LRM. The fact that the man deliberately intimidated her and she didn't feel safe in a female space where it sounds like she was alone (I can easily picture the staring and aggression) was irrelevant to him.

TBH I think some people (mostly men, but some women) who are convinced that they're Good actually consider it marvellous that Bad Unpeople are intimidated or scared.
