I thought MPs were bound by some standards of behaviour?

Yesterday the leader of the SNP at WM called his peers 'rabid gammon', which was shocking, but what I found more disturbing was Llloyd Russell-Moyle's verbal attack on Miriam Cates (clip above).

I actually found his behaviour frightening and alarming, and can't imagine how it must feel to have that venom directed at you by a colleague - let alone the slanderous accusations made.

Is it possible to make a complaint to the Labour Party about his behaviour?

He has a long history of misogyny.
Two years ago he was very unpleasant to Selina Scott. Sadly this is just a voice recording because I remember how red in the face furious he was at the time.

Thanks, I'd forgotten how much of a plum he was in that interview.

BettyFilous · 18/01/2023 18:58

I just showed DH LR-M’s non apology. He laughed and said it could be summarised as “for anyone who missed my rant yesterday, here it is again. Sorry, not sorry.” DH is right. LR-M basically repeats his same crap arguments and doubles down.

ArabellaScott · 18/01/2023 15:40

He just couldn't help himself.

He lost control.

He's an abusive misogynist and everyone can see it.

It' enlightening isn't it just how many men were so very angry at the thought of women and children being safeguarded, women saying we don't want men in our spaces, any men whether they think they are a woman or not, women saying 'No', women, refusing to give consent to be props for males.

If their behaviour yesterday, especially Lloyd's, doesn't wake people up to what is behind this agenda of 'trans rights' and that it is a smoke screen for Men's Rights, a weapon to be used to remove rights from women and use and abuse them as pawns nothing will.

Those men proved conclusively yesterday the visceral hatred they have for women.

He seems rather hard of understanding. Did he not listen to Miriam Cates, or did he not take any notice of what she actually said?

I think he understood, but he Has A Position and thinks he's in the right. He doesn't give a damn about the substance of her speech, he just wanted to pretend to have an excuse to get angry and hurl abuse, to show how righteous he is and how hateful she is.

Hopefully, people previously barely aware of the issue may see the footage and think twice about #BeKind

He's an arrogant, bossy little gobshite who shouldn't be in charge of a fucking shoeshine stand.

Cheekymaw · 18/01/2023 19:20

Ex Labour member of many years here. Desperate to get the Tories out but by God the likes of that horrible wee gnaff Lloyd makes it hard to vote Labour!!! What a nasty piece of work! Miriam was spot on completely! Has Lloyd any care whatsoever for the safeguarding of women and children? I doubt it. He makes my flesh crawl. So much anger. You could complain to the Labour Party but I doubt anything would get done . Maybe their Chief Whip ?
Honestly watching these misogynist politicians and their handmaidens is so depressing.

EpicChaos · 18/01/2023 19:34

Well he rather proved her point about nasty men!
As for there being links between trans and sex offenders, has he never heard of David Challoner, or chris chan to name but two?!

yasnayapolyana · 18/01/2023 19:39

Thanks for the link. Email sent to Labour Chief Whip's office. Hope they get bombarded. The female speaker at the time seemed to hardly know how to deal with his behaviour.

YumiSutzuki · 18/01/2023 19:47

He really is an utter raving misognyist, he's one of those woman haters that does not even realise he has to hide it. He really is quite hysterical in his woman hating.
When the only women you care about are men maybe you need to examine your prejudices.
Whenever I question how could I leave a lifetime on the left, I just think of Lloyd, and breath a sigh of relief in the knowledge that I am indeed on the right side of history.

dapsnotplimsolls · 18/01/2023 19:57
  1. His poor mother
  2. I wonder if he's ever had a partner who's a transman?
IcakethereforeIam · 18/01/2023 20:02

I'm not 100% sure (cos Wikipedia Blush) but he came out as HIV+, so he may be homosexual. I think it's well controlled with the appropriate medication.

BirmaBrite · 18/01/2023 20:17

How long did he speak for ? the link to his twitter account only appears to be a few seconds long ?

RoyalCorgi · 18/01/2023 20:25

The worst thing about LRM is that he appears to be sincere. He is genuinely angry - not just angry, but furious to the point of incoherence - that women are saying no to men. He thinks it's completely reasonable of men to always get what they want, and completely unreasonable of women to deny it. You can hear it in his voice - he is literally incredulous that women are daring to say no. It's incredibly revealing about the way some men think about women.

Boiledbeetle · 18/01/2023 20:27

It's incredibly revealing about the way some men think about women.

@RoyalCorgi exactly and those women who claim all men are sunshine and rainbows...this is the sort of man we keep telling you about!!

MorvenOfMalvern · 18/01/2023 20:36

Walrussy · 18/01/2023 13:04

Was it he who was heckling Rosie Duffield as well? How they think men shouting over a woman trying to talk about women's safety is a good look, I'll never know. He's a rabid misogynist.

Ben Bradshaw being widely named as the person who shouted "rubbish" when she listed single sex spaces and their importance...

Sorry DM link -

ArabellaScott · 18/01/2023 13:25

WTF:

This man doesn't seem well.

When is this from? How can these people have jobs? And jobs that impact all of us?

If anyone behaved like this within 100m of me I'd be terrified! We pay him?

MorvenOfMalvern · 18/01/2023 20:40

The interview with Selina Todd is really chilling. I've never heard it before but you gather everything about him from his tone and the way he talks then. Really scary stuff.

She sounds amazing though. What happened to her? And the labour MP Pidcock? So many brave, prophetic women...

Walrussy · 18/01/2023 20:45

I don't want to use the word "triggering" but I think the reason LRM's tirade has hit a nerve is because we've all experienced that man in our everyday life. That man who is so furious and whose contempt for women lies so close to the surface that it takes very little for it to emerge. I know seeing that frothing rage, in a workplace no less, I was reminded of road rage incidents - men furious that they are trapped behind a woman who won't speed and so start flashing their lights, honking and screaming abuse, cutting me up. Men who've had a few drinks and start an argument with the only women present and then turn very nasty when she won't back down. A man who threatened to punch me at a football match after my team had the temerity to beat his, and I was leaving the stadium. (He didn't do it to any of the male fans.)

I agree LRM's aggression is frightening, and more so, because he didn't just feel it was acceptable, but he was proud of it. Proud enough to retweet it so everyone would see. It didn't occur to him how ugly, aggressive, and threatening it looked because he was so high on his own supply of outrage at this witch who wouldn't just do as she was told and move aside and let him win.

Helleofabore · 18/01/2023 20:46

His non apology is a sight to see.

And people wonder why the extremists who protest women speaking thoughts those extremists must never hear act the way they do.

Helleofabore · 18/01/2023 20:51

ArabellaScott · 18/01/2023 13:25

WTF:

This man doesn't seem well.

When I hear this, I am hearing davros in Dr Who getting wound up to then scream ‘exterminate’!

Same energy.

PomegranateOfPersephone · 18/01/2023 20:57

Miriam was fantastic, what courage to continue in that climate making all her points so concisely and sharing that personal story of the encounter with a man in a dress in the women’s toilets, it sounds absolutely terrifying.

BlackForestCake · 18/01/2023 21:15

Selina Todd is still a professor at Oxford and involved with WPUK I think?

Laura Pidcock lost her seat at the 2019 election – otherwise, she would have made a much stronger candidate for Labour leader than either Rayner or Long-Bailey.

BastardtheCat · 18/01/2023 21:20

Replies off - what an unpleasant little man.

BaronMunchausen · 18/01/2023 21:47

It was vile. Frightening. The finger-pointing fury at a woman who dared to admit to being uneasy about encountering a man in a women's toilet. Where does that anger and contempt for women come from?

He didn't even explain why he thought the man Cates encountered was 'trans': he was presumably trans and thereby entitled to be in the ladies' simply by being there. For many men who have this fury against women, the word "transphobia" is just a replacement for the word "misandry". The men at Pink News excelled themselves today reporting on this man's bigotry (sorry, "Cates' awful bigotry"): her 'claim' that men are stronger than women is "a hateful narrative" that "is not based in actual science"; and "she failed to cite a scientific body or peer-reviewed study" to show that women are "wary of men in intimate spaces". This mad stuff is well and truly through the looking glass.

ScrollingLeaves · 18/01/2023 21:48

Just to back up what Rosie said about how self-ID would mean that men would gain access to women’s spaces, the petition to update the Equality Act to make sure sex means biological sex, not sex as modified by a gender recognition certificate , might help.

If anyone who has not yet done so would like to sign:

I used to live down the road from a dominatrices' (a few worked there) dungeon. It was entirely unmarked. The punters/clients would have to ring the bell and wait to be let in.

I've never seen videos of this guy before, or him in the flesh, but the first thing that came to mind watching those videos was that he matches a type I'd seen waiting to be let in.

It's almost too like he doth protest too much.
