I thought MPs were bound by some standards of behaviour?

Yesterday the leader of the SNP at WM called his peers 'rabid gammon', which was shocking, but what I found more disturbing was Llloyd Russell-Moyle's verbal attack on Miriam Cates (clip above).

I actually found his behaviour frightening and alarming, and can't imagine how it must feel to have that venom directed at you by a colleague - let alone the slanderous accusations made.

Is it possible to make a complaint to the Labour Party about his behaviour?

Can you imagine being his constituent? Can you imagine being a female constituent? A female constituent with views he disagrees with?

It's horrifying, isn't it? They are supposed to be diplomatic with constituents, be they racists or whatever.

I am a constituent.

I had a face to face meeting with the fragrant Lloyd in 2018 during the GRA reform consultation. It took an hour. 80% of that time was him lecturing me instead listening to what my concerns were. I found him incredibly patronising and insulting.

I think I posted about it here at the time, not sure if it was under this username or not.

Oh God! What you say doesn't surprise me in the least. Did you complain about the little tick?

I didn’t see the point. This was 2018. Corbyn was still in charge and LRM was a Momentum aligned MP.

Sadly with the state of things he’s unlikely to be ousted any time soon- the constituency consists of uni students, Brighton’s gay village and several deprived areas that are getting shat on by the Government on a daily basis.

DevilinaCardigan · 19/01/2023 17:29

I live in his constituency and follow him on Facebook. He’s posted about the nurses strike with a picture of him and two men. Of course men can be nurses, but it’s still a predominantly a female dominated profession.
The only women LRM cares about have penises.

Sorry, i've posted this on a few threads but it's a v easy form -

Found this form. Interestingly, and surprisingly you can tick a box to say you're complaining about sexism and misogyny!

Sitting nearby, Lloyd Russell-Moyle went puce — perhaps less surprising — and started to heckle every woman who spoke of their similar concerns. Later, when Miriam Cates, a Conservative MP and friend, spoke of her concerns around safeguarding, he accused her of being a bigot before crossing over to the Tory side of the Chamber to sit on the side benches, very close to her, staring as if to intimidate her.

SinnerBoy · 20/01/2023 11:34

I've complained, to. This is what I wrote:

"Lloyd Russell-Moyle verbally abused Miriam Cates in the House of Commons. He shouted at her, accusing her falsely of making transphobic comments, when she recounted an incident. Further, he pointed aggressively at her, that can result in a person being arrested for assault, if done in public. He made a complete non apology to the Deputy speaker and in it, said that he stood by his words. His behaviour was disgusting and completely unacceptable.
He was utterly contemptuous and bullying towards the female MP."

YouSetTheTone · 20/01/2023 11:55

I’ve sent an article by Glinner about it to my MP, and have asked him to stand up for his female constituents and publicly renounce the behaviour by bully boy above and others towards Miriam Cates and Rosie Duffield. These women are being heckled and abused in Parliament for raising reasonable concerns over the safety of women and children. It’s a revolting display of misogyny and the silence from the majority of MPs is just as bad as the bullying. The fact it’s not called out normalises this aggression towards women talking about things that concern us.

I had no idea he crossed to sit near her. This is genuinely scary.

I think he needs to be disciplined, rather than 'ousted'. Sexist aggression is just unacceptable.

Um, WHAT??!!! Never mind 'unparliamentary', that is downright unhinged and scary. There is absolutely no excuse for that, none.

I'm finding Mumsnet very slow and sticky at the moment!

Skyellaskerry · 20/01/2023 13:07

Does anyone know if it’s better to use the labour complaint form or email the labour chief whip which I think has also been mentioned?

IcakethereforeIam · 20/01/2023 13:14

Why not both?

I get that Labour could probably run a stuffed monkey in this seat and win, but do they have to? Can't the local party deselect him, or the national party ban him from being a candidate as he's clearly not fit for public office?

ArabellaScott · 20/01/2023 13:53

It is only just now starting to dawn on me just how brilliant Miriam's speech was.

She was pointing at the Emperor.

Her description of 'a man wearing women's clothes' cuts to the heart of how the situation is for a woman. Before we get into a discussion about pronouns, or preferences, or gender identity, what a woman sees is 'a man wearing woman's clothes'.

We have had so much focus on the preferences of transwomen, how they wish to be addressed, what spaces they wish to use, that nobody has spoken clearly, plainly and simply described what it is for a woman to meet 'a man wearing women's clothes' in a single sex space.

I could hear some MPs angrily shouting "she" when Miriam Cates said "he". They knew better, at a remove, than her. The 'correction' indicates that some MPs hold that anyone in clothing traditionally worn by women, is therefore a woman; that it's the clothing which defines 'woman; and/or that any man who is in the Ladies' is also thereby a woman.

What happened to my post?

I was merely agreeing that the framing of what happened to her was excellent at highlighting the issues.

Why not both?

I did both and to the oik himself and to Kier. And wrote to Miriam.

I'm so sick of this shit.

This was supposed to be one of those awful memories we all have from 30+ years ago. when some men thought it still acceptable to speak to women like this in public

Not fucking 2023.

In parliament.
