I thought MPs were bound by some standards of behaviour?

Yesterday the leader of the SNP at WM called his peers 'rabid gammon', which was shocking, but what I found more disturbing was Llloyd Russell-Moyle's verbal attack on Miriam Cates (clip above).

I actually found his behaviour frightening and alarming, and can't imagine how it must feel to have that venom directed at you by a colleague - let alone the slanderous accusations made.

Is it possible to make a complaint to the Labour Party about his behaviour?

Oily Moyley

😄

@TheClogLady thank you for that. So if I actually ever dare tweet, if I like them I retweet it, and if I disagree I quote tweet.

God, I feel like my grannie!

In related news, if LRM is unable to anticipate that his (male) behaviour might make a (female) colleague feel intimidated, perhaps he should enter a party whip-enforced period of self reflection?

And if he did know, of course he bloody did, then he has to also admit that he was Aware of the truth of Miriams words and subsequently angry at Miriam because she was exposing the truth under it all.

We are scared of men for good reason and just their very presence in a situation or space where we are vulnerable or expected to be safe can be, and is generally perceived by women to actually be, threatening behaviour to us. Regardless of whether that man claims to be a woman or not and regardless of whether or not or to what degree we were in danger.

So didn't realise, well over 2 million people have just said it's not OK and his behaviour is exactly what women are scared o f and why we have the laws we are supposed to have. And maybe he should shut up, listen to those perks who know, like actual women, learn and find something that works for women and transwomen.

Did realise, will then he's a very dangerous man and has shown the world his misogynistic hated of women.

Neither is a good look. One is a step down for a period of sir and go breed llamas the other usually ends in dead or traumatised women.

Use the 'wrong' pronouns and it's off to re-education camp; use intimidating behaviour towards a woman and...meh

So..... those figures on his reason for crossing the floor and intimidating Miriam tweet, as I'm new to Twitter, can someone explain, does it mean it's been viewed 2.2 million times and only 65 of those 2.2 million people have agreed with him?

Possibly because most people can see that he's at the centre of a chinos based conflagration?

Violetparis · 24/01/2023 20:10

Just posted on another thread that Miriam is on Politics Live tomorrow BBC2 11.15. Will be interesting to see what she has to say and how any Labour/SNP panelists respond.

Thank you, Violet

Thank you ResisterRex.
I noticed under a comment that someone said why isn’t Rishi standing up and making more things clear ‘that the definition in the Equality Act applies to biological women only, reversing the presumption that males have access to female spaces? He could fix that right away’.

The comment goes on to say that would fix Scotland too, though I am not sure if that is correct, but …

just to make the Government have to take a bit of notice at least, and consider having a debate if 100,000 signatures can be found by the cut off time in April,
please remember this petition and share it if you can even if you have already signed it.

If you know how, adding it to Twitter might help too.

It was started by Sex Matters and is to update the Equality Act to make clear the protected characteristic ‘sex’ means biological sex.

Cates played down Moyle's behaviour on Politics live, probably because she'd be accused of 'playing the victim' or the 'if women aren't tough enough they shouldn't be there' rhetoric put out by people who ignore the several times greater level of abuse women get, especially in public life.
However she came across very clearly, supported by Blunkett. The SNP bod dodged it by talking about democracy 🙄

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 25/01/2023 21:44

He should resign. He can’t have a say on anything that affects women if he is too stupid or too abusive that his behaviour is intimidating to women. He obviously hates women.

ACynicalDad · 25/01/2023 21:57

He's awful, there are some utter loons on the left of labour and on the right of the tory party, and the lib dems and SNP have them too, sadly, some of them have seats pretty much for life. I wish there was a way to get them out. A real pity KS didn't use it as a chance to suspend his whip and see someone else selected ahead of the next election.

ethermint · 26/01/2023 17:50

just saw this and was pretty shocked at the hatred he showed and the rage in his face as he spoke to that poor female MP. he's my MP, always voted labour before because in my constituency they stood a chance of getting in but I am now doubtful that I can vote for him again unfortunately. Anything I can do as a constituent?

Aasmah Mir was interviewing Labour’s David Lammy this morning and at the end of the interview asked him about the abuse given to Rosie Duffield and Miriam Coates in the House of Commons and in particular from Russell Lloyd-Moyles. I think it about 7:40/7:45.

The same David Lammy who was involved in the original GRA debates?

Yes complain to him directly and ask what he thought he was doing and that his apology and explanations aren't sufficient.

He will only respond to constituents

Boiledbeetle · 26/01/2023 20:38

@ethermint if you'd be do kind as it'd be fascinated to see how he responds...

also tell him that you don't want to hear one word about LGBT+ .

Your complaint is wholly about your male MP and his appalling behaviour towards a woman.

The fact that he's is gay, or that he was, wrongy thinking Miriam was transphobic is irrelevant to your complaint.

You witnessed a man abuse a woman in parliament on tv. He needs to explain that misogyny and violence.

The LGBT+ has no place in his answer.

You are holding him personally as a man abusing a woman to account not his ideology.

Tallisker · 26/01/2023 20:50

Boiled absolutely

FigRollsAlly · 26/01/2023 21:10

He will probably repeat his pathetic excuse about how “passionate” he is about this subject. I noticed years ago at work how bullying men would be excused for getting into a nasty rage because they were supposedly passionate about whatever their job was.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 26/01/2023 22:18

Yes. Ask him and expect an answer that doesn’t answer anything. Expect to be educated, patronised and gaslighted. That is to be expected.

It’s interesting that this odious man used the word “passionate” to refer to how the issue makes him feel because until not very long ago, men who murdered their wives or girlfriends were often portrayed as having killed them in a “crime / fit of passion”.

Nothing says “passionate” more than murderous rage, eh?

Boiledbeetle · 27/01/2023 01:54

Thing is had Miriam shouted, our even shown any negative emotion, whilst telling about the man in the toilets, I don't think Lloyd would have accepted her saying her emotions were because she was being passionate about the situation.Lloyd would say she was putting it on to elicit sympathy

Wasn't it Lloyd Russell-Moyle who argued that teachers should be teaching children in SRE lessons how to "choke" safely? Which really throws a grim light on his lack of understanding of child safeguarding, safety and wellbeing. (along with a skewed insight into 'age appropriate" behaviour).

Total weirdo, clearly no idea about age appropriate work and safeguarding

mach2 · 27/01/2023 06:34

how to "choke" safely

You first, Lloyd.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 27/01/2023 08:57

When is he going to apologise properly?

Or called her hysterical.

Has anyone had any response at all to their complaints about this?

I emailed everyone involved, completed the formal complaint form, and emailed my own MP (Tory) but have not received a single thing.

How can labour appear transparent of that complaints for thing has no follow up? I saw loads of people on here and twitter saying they'd done similar and yet still not a peep from the party.
