At some point after 2pm, in the Big Room (the Chamber).

www.parliament.scot/chamber-and-committees/whats-on-and-watch-live/whats-on#wm

Will be interesting to see how the Amendments go down, if they are all struck down as the ScotGov wishes - www.holyrood.com/news/view,gender-recognition-reform-crunch-vote-after-shona-robison-warns-msps-over-amendments

'the Scottish Conservatives have warned that the debate could lead to a "travesty of democracy" because a 15 minute time limit for each proposal will "shut down" discussion.'

I’m so sad. What now? If my only goal in this life is to protect my daughter, damn it, I will. I will not back down. I will fight! I will not recognise this law. Sturg can go to hell!!!

Just sent this to my my utterly useless MP -

Dear Peter Grant,

How much do you hate women?

Actual real women that were born with vaginas and uterus - biological females.

Do you have children? If so do you have boys or girls? Or maybe they are not allowed to be either?

I would hope that you have at least a basic understanding of sex and reproduction, it's taught at Primary level now.

Around 50% of the voting public are female (as in born with a vagina and XX chromosomes).

Please explain why you think that it is ok for males (XY chromosomes) to be able to invade women only places that were previously protected BY LAW for a very good reason.

You have a history of refusing to respond to my other communications regarding safeguarding Womens rights and I'm not expecting you to man up now either.

You have chosen to be on the wrong side.

History will remember that.

I really bloody wish Scotland had a second chamber.

And that more MSPs had been upstanding enough to defy the whip. What's the worst that could happen, you're forced to become Independents, like Andy Wightman did?

This could be here too soon. It’s so frustrating and deiressong to see.

Skyellaskerry · 22/12/2022 16:28

@GrouchyKiwi agree with you. All respect to those MSPs who followed their conscience and ignored party whip, which should never have been there.

Forth · 22/12/2022 16:30

Caught a bit of Times radio where John piennar's going to be talking about this on his drive time show (Jane Garvey feigning ignorance??? Missed the start)
He was saying this bill is now going to bring the issue front and centre of UK politics - I'm going to try to listen. I find Times radio much more rigorous than radio 4 - Justin Webb notable exception but he's never given much time. Topic that can't be done in sound bites...

This 100%

ArabellaScott · 22/12/2022 16:31

Thanks for the solidarity from outwith Scotland.

I hope this will get the subject sunlight, and ultimately stop Labour pushing it through in rUK.

Yes @Forth, Jane Garvey, recently of Woman's Hour pretending not to know what all the fuss is about. She finds the furore around this whole issue "baffling" "it affects such a tiny number of people". Oh Jane.

That picture of people posing in 'threatening' positions includes Eilidh Martin, of the Scottish Greens's Rainbow section, and a keen 'diaper' fetishist :

Could the SNP MSPs who voted against it (I actually have no clue how anybody voted, I'm just out of a meeting) resign and force by-elections? I mean Nicola's government is quite precarious as it is.

Waitwhat23 · 22/12/2022 16:46

This seems to be a run down of how MSP's voted - twitter.com/BBCPhilipSim/status/1605957583654645760?s=20&t=yo2e9EkGvYBx7TqpKMoTyg

This is what I've sent today:

Dear Liz Kendall,

Following the decision today to approve the amendments to the Scottish GRC process I feel compelled to get a better understanding of your views on this issue and to document officially my concerns.

I am a biological female and I have a biologically female daughter. As you know, due to nothing but our sex at birth we are at higher risk of sexual assault by biologically male people, reduced career progression, reduced salary, increased housing insecurity, increased risk of long term poverty and reduced health outcomes due to being dismissed by the medical profession. We are also susceptible to female only health conditions .i.e cervical cancer, uterine fibroids, endometriosis.

And so to my questions:

  • In the event that England were to replicate the Scottish GRC legislation, would you vote for it to pass?
  • Do you support the provision of single sex spaces for women?
  • Do you support the provision of same sex care by healthcare providers?
  • Do you support rape crisis and domestic abuse services excluding men and Transwomen and offering exclusively female only services as per the EA2010?
  • Do prisons in Leicester and Leicestershire currently allow for people assigned male at birth to be housed within the female estate? If yes, do you support this and believe it appropriate for some of the most disadvantaged women in the country to be locked in a cell with a male bodied person?
  • What actions will you be taking to offer guidance to charities, businesses, healthcare settings etc who wish to exercise their legal right to offer services exclusively to people assigned female at birth?

I appreciate that this is a ‘thorny’ issue and that many people are scared to put their head above the parapet, but I think it’s incredibly important to ensure that in the rush to show inclusivity we don’t inadvertently remove the hard won and absolutely necessary rights of women and girls.

Yours sincerely

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/12/2022 16:51

On the bright side the Tories and much of the media covering this hate the SNP & the independence movement.

I suspect any issues with this will be very well reported.

SerotinaPickeler · 22/12/2022 16:54

Perhaps thank you letters from mumsnetters to all those who voted against the Bill are called for? Will get stamps.

I also noticed Nicola Sturgeon kept herself well out of the way. Allowed Shona Robison to take the heat.

So the SNP have ONLY NOW tweeted about the GRC Bill. One to say it went through, followed by the next one about Section 35.

Good god. The Scottish Greens are no better than their English counterparts.

ArabellaScott · 22/12/2022 17:06

'Two frontbench critics - MSPs Claire Baker and Carol Mochan - voted against the bill and will be required to quit as party spokespeople.

Two higher profile frontbenchers with concerns about the bill - Pauline McNeill and Michael Marra - did not vote.'

Thank you to Claire Baker and Carol Mochan, that shows real integrity.
