Who would you like to see come out as GC?

There are a few outspoken women, who I secretly daydream they’re GC. Top of my list would be Oprah. I’d be thrilled if she was a closet GCer. She would shut up all those people who spout crap like “TWAW just like black women are women” and other guff. But in reality, I doubt this will happen.

Also on my list, in no particular order is
Jenner Lawrence, Sharon Horton (I know she’s friends with Aisling Bea so it’s unlikely), Meryl Streep. I’ll add a few more names when I remember.

I think Carrie Fisher would have been GC, she was very smart and understood the issues women face.

And Victoria Wood too, who had a good handle on how size and class issues impacted woman (I miss VW, so incredibly talented).

Who would you love to see talk out about this?

This made me laugh. Can they not see how ironic it is that they say this but then spend their time transing historical figures?

Indeed. That Joan of Arc play being the latest. Transing the dead.

Not sure I can forgive Jo Brand who built an entire career around being a feminist and has stayed silent about this for years.

agree re Jo Brand- when your schtick is tell-it-like-it-is, professional feminist, then your keeping quiet is bloody disappointing

give me germaine greer any day- she earns her feminist stripes time and again

also love Julie Burchill- now, she really doesn't give a f**k

I believe they tried to trans Kurt Cobain because he wore dresses sometimes.
Ffs.

Jo Brand
Caitlin Moran
Jess Philips
Anyone who has made a big deal and a load of money out of saying they are a feminist but stay silent on this issue.

I was listening to the radio this morning, and Gina Davis was being interviewed about her new book, Dying of Politeness. She was talking about her work on Womens roles in the media, and her site SeeJane. She started out researching the types of roles and representation that women were getting in film and tv, and has expanded the research to include race, LGBTQIA+, disability, age 50+, and body type.

I had presumed Gina Davis would be GC, but now I’m second guessing myself. It got me thinking about the film she was in, A League of Their Own, which also starred Rosie O’Donnell, who surely must have an opinion on this. And Madonna too.

Jess Phillips is pro trans. Because she's a sensible woman.

crumpetswithjam · 06/10/2022 18:03

Likewise, Caitlin's Moran, pro trans.

Wow, what a team you're getting together, absolutely formidable 😂

ThatCheeseIsMine · 06/10/2022 19:26

crumpets why do you think it’s about people being either “pro-trans” or “intolerant”? That’s so simplistic and misrepresents the issue so badly.

it is the transactivist lobby who are intolerant of anyone who doesn’t agree with them. Those who question gender ideology are not anti-trans and are happy for people to have different beliefs from themselves, they just want policy to be based on reality and for women and children and gay people not to lose their existing rights (such as their right to single-sex space when it matters, the right not to be persecuted for being exclusively same sex attracted, and the right to safeguarding).

Can you explain why you think gender ideology is the “tolerant” side? “tolerant” isn’t just about trans people, it means tolerant of the beliefs and needs of everyone including all the protected categories. Also what is not “pro-trans” about wanting trans people to have the same rights as others?

By massively oversimplifying and misrepresenting it you are not coming across like you understand the issues at all. Why do you think a bunch of educated, left-leaning feminists and gays and lesbians would suddenly become bigots? Clue - they didn’t.

I'd like to see some high profile gay men reveal their true feelings at the idea of dating a man with a vagina... Elton, Tom Daley, Philip Schofield...

A lot of gay men are enthusiastic supporters for transing-the-gay. So they have it in for adolescent gay teens and lesbian girls.

Not sure why, but some prominent one's seem to reckon that LGB Alliances' campaign against transing-the-gay is a hate crime.

JaneorEleven · 05/10/2022 21:59

I’m loving a lot of these suggestions. Yes, yes to gay men saying it as it is. Members of the royal family, including Judy Dench haha.

Oh, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge would be up there on my wish list. Totally would see her being GC. And Lena Dunham too, I know she’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but she makes laugh.

But are they too young (I’m in my mid 50s so anyone under 40 is young), and still wanna be down with the cool kids?

Lena's sibling is trans so I'd be very surprised if she was GC, it's not impossible of course but I'd just be surprised.

MrsJamin · 06/10/2022 09:43

Charlie Brooker and Sacha Baron Cohen would be amazing. I can't see that don't see the bullshit gaslighting behind all this. Some female comedians (as they all seem to be handmaidens) and gay men too.
I think Miranda Hart would be, there were a bunch of jokes in Miranda about people assuming she was a cross dressing man. Victoria cohen Mitchell surely is, she's so super clever, badass feminist, and one of those of famous people you convince yourself you'd be great friends with if you ever met.
I'm sure there are many more famous people that are GC but have watched what happened to jk Rowling and are in fear of being cancelled.

I think SBC would be, his brother is a renowned researcher and professor for autism so I bet at the very least his brother is aware of the comorbidities of young women and girls with autism being funnelled down the trans pipeline

BeBraveLittlePenguin · 06/10/2022 20:52

Justine and all who dwell at MN Towers.

That would be awesome.

DismantledKing · 06/10/2022 15:06

Indeed. That Joan of Arc play being the latest. Transing the dead.

And the cancellation of a play on Joan of Arc by lesbian writer Carolyn Gage. Sickening hypocrisy

crumpetswithjam · 06/10/2022 18:02

Jess Phillips is pro trans. Because she's a sensible woman.

She doesn’t want to be uninvited to Joe Lycett’s Moseley parties. I reckon that she’s far more GC than she pretends to be.

QuimReaper · 06/10/2022 21:55

I saw Stephen Fry on a show about the Edinburgh Fringe a few weeks ago referring to Eddie Izzard as 'she'.

On the same show, Eddie claimed to have 'come out as trans' when he first performed in a dress in the '80s Confused

PM - Liz Truss?

She used to be. Let's hope she still is.

BitossiBlues · 06/10/2022 22:40

Pam Ayres. I'd love her to compose an anthology of poetry on the absurdity of all the ridiculous genders.

The fucking idiots in charge of Girl Guiding and Scouts.

Harry Styles' current idiot girlfriend, Olivia Wilde, could do with educating herself on the matter.

Look at yourselves, fangirling celebs you imagine are as intolerant as you. What lovely people you all are.

Wow. The mental gymnastics behind your post boggles the mind. Concerned about the welfare and rights of girls and women on one side, ‘die in a grease fire terf’ on the other. Mmm… who really are the intolerant ones?

JanieAllen · 06/10/2022 23:17

Emma Thompson signed a letter telling Scottish women 'to be kind' she can get into the sea as far as I'm concerned and stop PRETENDING she's Scottish.
