Who would you like to see come out as GC?

There are a few outspoken women, who I secretly daydream they’re GC. Top of my list would be Oprah. I’d be thrilled if she was a closet GCer. She would shut up all those people who spout crap like “TWAW just like black women are women” and other guff. But in reality, I doubt this will happen.

Also on my list, in no particular order is
Jenner Lawrence, Sharon Horton (I know she’s friends with Aisling Bea so it’s unlikely), Meryl Streep. I’ll add a few more names when I remember.

I think Carrie Fisher would have been GC, she was very smart and understood the issues women face.

And Victoria Wood too, who had a good handle on how size and class issues impacted woman (I miss VW, so incredibly talented).

Who would you love to see talk out about this?

Look at yourselves, fangirling celebs you imagine are as intolerant as you. What lovely people you all are.

The irony re the intolerance part Grin

Never in the history of the world has there been a less tolerant people than the TRAs.

Jo Brand, Victoria Coren Mitchell, Nigella Lawson, Clare Balding, Ian McKellern — all the people who've sat comfortably on the fence and tried to pretend nothing's happening in order to earn a few more million.

Kathy Bates - strong woman.

Yes, like Jo Brand — strong women who've kept their heads down and said nothing. Hugely disappointing.

I think it's a bit unfair to say sitting on the fence about people who aren't political as part of their public self.
And if their career will be ruined if 'cancelled' I can see why keeping quiet seems the best option.
It is like current sportswomen not speaking out because they fear for funding or team selection.

MPs on the other hand are positively paid to speak up...

Painting GC views (which criticise gender ideology and gender stereotypes, not trans people as a group) as bigotry and intolerance is one of the reasons such a dangerous ideology has been able to take hold. It's convinced people that having doubts that anyone can actually change sex, or that encouraging children to think they can be the opposite sex (or no sex) via harmful surgery and drugs, is bigotry akin to racial hatred or homophobia. It's not. Those are reasonable concerns and they are separate from trans rights. Almost all GC people I have ever interacted with think trans people should be protected from persecution and discrimination just like other protected categories of people - i.e. should have the same rights as everyone else. But those rights don't extend to other people having to believe the same things, just as they don't with people of various religions.

But yes I plead guilty to being intolerant of telling gay and gender-non-conforming kids they are "really" the opposite sex because of their interests and style. That's sexist, stereotyped and regressive. I am intolerant of government and institutional policies being based on unscientific ideas unsupported by the evidence. And I am intolerant of eroding all women's safe spaces so that women aren't safe or comfortable any more and opt out of things. And yes I am intolerant of the homophobia that says being same-sex attracted is wrong. Why aren't you, crumpets?

ThatCheeseIsMine · 06/10/2022 10:57

I agree re fence-sitting, I understand it. I keep a low profile myself, though I'd love to voice my opinions, I'm a freelancer in a creative field and I'd lose my income and as a single mum responsible for 2 kids, that's not a good plan. That's how silencing and bullying works – it works because a lot of people can't afford to be hounded out of their jobs.

pattihews · 06/10/2022 11:37

Not sure I can forgive Jo Brand who built an entire career around being a feminist and has stayed silent about this for years.

If you want to "fan girl " the likes of Jacob Breslow, go ahead.

JeannieDark · 06/10/2022 12:08

All MPs for any party - especially SNP because I'm in Scotland and especially Labour & LDs as I'd love to be able to vote for them.

Pretty sure Paula Radcliffe has spoken out on males in women's sports.

Aye aye, one of IW’s fan club has appeared

LovinglifeAF · 05/10/2022 22:41

I’d like Caroline Quentin to be GC but I wouldn’t be surprised if she was TWAW

Ian Hislop I bet is GC

I'm really surprised that Private Eye doesn't seem to cover any of this, apart from the odd cartoon, but they all seem to be GC so I'm guessing that Ian Hislopand Private Eye are GC.

Hislop and Francis Wheen don’t believe any gender woo bullshit, and they do put some stuff in PE but not as much as I’d hope. The other staff there might have different ideas. Their cartoons are great though.

I mean, quite apart from the fact that the "TWAW" brigade are utterly intolerant of anyone who doesn't share their belief system, why on earth WOULD I be tolerant of male athletes in women's sports, vulnerable female inmates being assaulted by TW in women's prisons, female rape survivors being turned away by rape crisis centres for wanting single sex support, or children's charities which push puberty blockers and breast binding on children and appoint paedophiles to their board of trustees?

It is intolerable.

FKATondelayo · 06/10/2022 13:31

Yeah, if having boundaries makes me 'intolerant' so be it. I'm intolerant of sexism, bullshit, supernatural beliefs and violence. I will not tolerate explaining the same basic concepts to idiots over and over.

Same with 'right wing'. If being pro child safeguarding puts me on the right, I don't want to be on the left.

Fizbosshoes · 06/10/2022 13:35

Oh and Timothy Chalamet, Harry Styles and Florence Pugh. Dreaming on here!

I'd love it I'd they did, (and Taylor Swift) because my DD is obsessed takes a lot of notice of these guys.

I think they would have too much to lose though.

According to her, HS is "unlabelled"

Beowulfa · 06/10/2022 13:49

Margaret Atwood
Claudia Winkelman
Kylie Minogue

Chris Packham
Marcus Rashford

He refuses to label his sexuality, that's true, or confirm his relationships.
His fans are nuts, I mean I'm one, but slightly less nutty.
I actually saw some of his outfits, plus one of Timothee Chalamet's at the V&A the other week.

jellybe · 06/10/2022 14:44

This made me laugh. Can they not see how ironic it is that they say this but then spend their time transing historical figures?

Who would you like to see come out as GC?
GlorianaCervixia · 06/10/2022 14:45

Marian Keyes would be my nomination but I’ve noticed her husband sharing TWAW articles on Twitter and she’s stayed completely silent about the abuse JK Rowling has received so I think she may be a lost cause.

Sausagenbacon · 06/10/2022 14:55

Really? Celebrities who have been too gutless so far? Or too dim? Who gives a fuck about them?

Sausagenbacon · 06/10/2022 15:05

All these people will dance to the most popular tune. To expect integrity from any if them is a waste of time.
