“hoisted by their own petard” never seemed more apt, if true

I suppose if you've presented a paper in front of a room full of people, and amongst a huge amount of word salad have admitted to being a paedophile and viewing children as objects whose consent is not needed, and your career remains intact, you probably start to feel invincible.

Although to be fair to Breslaw, by supporting the medication of pre pubertal children, he was effectively helping create a cohort of adults who never experience puberty, but who would presumably be seen as able to consent in the eyes of the law.

terryleather · 04/10/2022 15:39

Stonewall and Mermaids (and others) are literally 100% about pushing queer theory, and child-safeguarding is incompatible with queer theory? If they cared about child-safeguarding then they'd have to complete change the aims of the organisations.

This.

Along with being male supremacist, homophobic and irrational, genderism and queer theory are antithetical to safeguarding.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 04/10/2022 15:42

If I recall correctly the No Outsiders programme stemmed from a toxic conference? meetings? where adults with an unhealthy interest in queering the curriculum / dismantling safeguarding for children, met to plan how to achieve this:
FWR discussed it repeatedly:
www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/3591339-No-Outsiders

and Transgender Trend have a devastating critique of the programme:

www.transgendertrend.com/no-outsiders-queering-primary-classroom/

Women have been shouting from the rooftops about the dangers for children of allowing dodgy activists to use schools, charities, the NHS, everywhere to push their niche issues - and we've all been ignored.

Can’t bring myself to read Penis News. Anyone feel like reporting back?

I give Pink News articles as much credence as bus-stop graffiti. Add it to the list including the metro, 'i', and 'buzzfeed' of junk faux-media.

ScreamingMeMe, yes, thank you, Allyn Walker was who I had in mind.

Also thinking of this WPATH member counsellor, who defended 'MAPs'. Her website linked to B4U-ACT:

Bloody hell - I think I went to school with him in that photo

Pink News has updated this article from Breslow to say that it's being shared online and that this was written before current developments.

I can see Ben Cohen's little feet paddling away very fast.

Here's an archived link so you don't have to give his rag the clicks.

Yes, I noted her name the other day as the Head of the Educational Studies Department at Goldsmiths, and current or former Ph.D. supervisor of Cal Horton, who is described thus on link below, no idea whether it's up to date or not:

Cal Horton is a parent of a trans child at a UK primary school, currently undertaking a PhD in education at Goldsmiths on cisnormativity, minority stress and the rights and wellbeing of socially transitioned trans children under 12. Cal is an advisor on trans children to All About Trans and a stakeholder representative to the Trans Learning Partnership.

Her name came up here within the last week on a thread about responses to the Cass review. She wrote one: growinguptransgender.com/2022/04/06/the-failure-of-the-cass-review/

Ben is indeed paddling away as fast as he can. First to break rank?

Thanks, Clymene. I can lower myself to read an archive link. Grin

I feel I have come at an opportunistic time

Jesus, talk about Freudian slip. It's OPPORTUNE, Jacob. But you do you.

Holy fuck. Is that a glimmer of integrity, or just a desperate grab at self preservation?

It was hard to find by Googling, I don’t know if PN did something to de-SEO it… It’s been archived on archive dot ph / fRpAl

It was surprisingly factual and interestingly structured. First 1/4 of the article reported the story, the resignation and Mermaids’ statement that his views are completely against their values.

Remaining 3/4 of the article doesn’t mention Mermaids any further and is devoted to explaining in detail what his views are. Like PN did, I shall refrain from editorialising.

But the original Mermaids brief does sound sane and sensible, looking at its blurb several posts above. What happened?

Benjamin Cohen's tweet:

'As a charity trustee for over a decade, it is clear to me that Mermaids must review its governance procedures following this disturbing revelation'

ISTR a few people thought she was posting here anonymously at one point.

WarriorN · 04/10/2022 16:22

Yes Gasp; note a phd in education.

ArabellaScott · 04/10/2022 16:24

Wee bit of Breslow's bio:

'I quickly joined youth groups and raised awareness of LGBT people at my school.
Six years on, I have worked with five LGBT youth organisations, most of which are aimed at improving the environment for LGBT youth in schools.
My passion for community work has also influenced my current studies, as I am focused on learning about the culture and oppression of LGBT people.
This year, I was awarded by the Point Foundation for my commitment to my academics and to our community.
The foundation is the largest publicly-supported organisation granting scholarships to LGBT students of merit in the US.
They have given me this amazing opportunity to come to the UK and do my work for Schools OUT.'

WarriorN · 04/10/2022 16:24

That all goes further with a few other people education at the moment.

WarriorN · 04/10/2022 16:24

(Re Carlisle, Horton et Al)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/10/2022 16:27

Surely this is the end of Mermaids, if it's not then it would prove SG has friends in very high places.

I don't think it will be the end. But hopefully the beginning of the end.

Benjamin Cohen's tweet:

Gosh. That's ALMOST an admission that there is a problem with safeguarding at Mermaids.

Might want to also get apologising to a few people there huh Ben...

The LSE have questions to answer as well. This is the Gender Studies Dept course content

Course content

The MSc Gender is a flexible degree which offers you the opportunity to develop expertise in the fullest possible range of gender theories, and stresses the significance of gender for knowledge and research design.

You are trained in how to treat gender as an object of study, as an analytic approach or perspective and as a way of thinking across disciplinary boundaries. A key focus of the degree concerns the ethical as well as intellectual issues that arise from practicing gender studies. In addition to the compulsory courses of the degree, you are able to choose options, from within and outside of the Department, in order to develop your own gender studies pathway and focus on key research areas.

Shit man, this whole thing is WILD!

The TRAs are going to be desperately scrabbling around in the dirt right now for anything, anything at all, they can fling that they think might stick or at least temporarily deflect. We can expect all sorts of nonsense from them in the coming days.

Benjamin Cohen has been the first to break rank, but Christ, you can almost hear him shitting his pants in that tweet!

I just can't believe what I'm reading to be honest. Can it really get any worse?
