“hoisted by their own petard” never seemed more apt, if true

The commission has a duty to investigate concerns raised, yes. I'm presuming most complaints came from JK Rowling's followers after one of her recent tweets?

As with everything else, innocent until proven guilty.

Which tweet please? Any screenshot or link?

PicturesOfDogs · 29/09/2022 16:48

Oh excellent. As was said above, this is delicious irony

Aposterhasnoname · 29/09/2022 16:48

The karma here would be delicious were it not for the number of kids harmed.. Tick tock mermaids, tick tock.

AlisonDonut · 29/09/2022 16:48

Of course they should have been investigated when they were pictured attracting kids to their stand at Pride by using dogs and sweets.

TheKeatingFive · 29/09/2022 16:50

Turns out no one could bring mermaids down but mermaids themselves. Figures.

Grin lol! Unless you're LBGA of course in which if you're found not guilty we'll appeal cos we're not going to treat you as innocent.

Keep 'em coming Marg, keep 'em coming.

Caaarrrl · 29/09/2022 16:51

I don't know why it's taken so long, to be honest. Good news though.

RoyalCorgi · 29/09/2022 16:52

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

YouSirNeighMmmm · 29/09/2022 16:53

Actually, can I just check something?

What evidence can the Charity Commission possibly have that an organisation formed by a woman who took her son to Thailand to have parts of his body removed whilst he was still a child fails to properly safeguard children? I mean, it seems ludicrous that an organisation run by such a woman could be anything other than a force for great good, even if it is misogynistic and homophobic.

How delicious! It was ALL Rowling’s fault. She started it!!

Do you ever listen to yourself Pie?

There was plenty of people lodging complaints.

and innocent until proven guilty?

Wonderful stuff. Wonderful stuff. I am thinking about ribbons… I don’t know why.

Hoppinggreen · 29/09/2022 16:58

I seem to remember a really funny thread on here a while ago sarcastically blaming JKR for everything

The organisation’s latest accounts say it has provided sessions for the police, NHS children’s mental health service, hospital trusts, charities and fostering agencies.

Oh dear, I hope none of these places have been told by mermaids that encouraging binding behind parents' backs is safeguarding compliant.

And even if mermaids manage to carry on after this, they are now under the spotlight. Any second a Telegraph journalist could be in the chat room, phoning up for advice, or asking about their camps.

The esoteric nature that many of these places rely on is finished.

yourhairiswinterfire · 29/09/2022 17:02

Mermaids being shockingly shit re child safeguarding and the investigation by The Telegraph uncovering this is the fault of JKR and her followers?

🤨

RoyalCorgi · 29/09/2022 17:02

Has anyone asked Emma Watson for her view yet? I eagerly await what she has to say.

My parents always warned me about child snatchers.

Oh yes me too.

Shes certainly been asked on Twitter, but crickets so far.

Old Margarita is reliable as ever!
😂😂😂😂

It’s about damned time their downright dangerous actions were under scrutiny.

Well, that's a bit of good news. Long overdue.

lifeturnsonadime · 29/09/2022 17:11

ooooh this is very interesting.

I wonder what the Fox Botherer and a certain male author make of this (amongst others).

Bet they'll be seething.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 29/09/2022 17:12

I just hope the charity commission are actually going to investigate in a factual, unbiased by rainbow unicorns, way. I am still amazed by how deeply entrenched gender ideology is in so many public bodies and I don't know that I trust any of them so look with open eyes on mermaids, stonewall etc.
