“hoisted by their own petard” never seemed more apt, if true

But the original Mermaids brief does sound sane and sensible, looking at its blurb several posts above. What happened?

TheClogLady · 04/10/2022 13:34

Tbf there is seemingly nowt but a rizla sized gap between GIDS and SG’s Mermaids!

Breslow's page has been updated to say he is on sabbatical until next year.

Gosh. Is nobody going to defend his work, then?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/10/2022 14:08

Goodness me. In my experience of HE admin, sabbaticals took quite a long time to arrange.

Breslow's page has been updated to say he is on sabbatical until next year.

'sabbatical'

So either

they want to avoid a scandal and have told him to keep his head down for a few months and then he can carry on as before with nothing more said about it

or

they want to avoid a scandal and are brushing this under the carpet with him 'leaving of his own accord by mutual agreement' at a later date. Like the NSPCC guy.

when the press are no longer sniffing around which might potentially ask a few more difficult questions of the university which they would do, if he was still around.

Either smacks of an institutional level failure that they are trying to cover up or play down.

Someone is embarassed and doesn't want transparency on this.

Its about time, universities which have promoted a load of this shit show were asked difficult questions.

Oh rlly?

Wow. How convenient for the insitution.

titchy · 04/10/2022 14:20

Blimey that's only been updated in the last 24 hours! Pennies dropping in UKHE?

RedToothBrush · 04/10/2022 14:23

Na. They just didn't the number of media inquiries they were getting...

ArabellaScott · 04/10/2022 14:42

Is it possible he's just unilaterally declared he's on sabbatical?

ArabellaScott · 04/10/2022 14:42

Thinking of the other MAP defending academic in the US who also 'went on sabbatical', but when I looked, had returned as if nothing had happened ...

heathspeedwell · 04/10/2022 14:54

I wonder if he'll return or just go low profile like Jess Bradley, the UK's first trans student officer, who was suspended for allegedly sharing images of a child being raped and saying how 'hot' they were, among other things.

Google of A few names brought this Flickr up from 2012.

Gires, GI and SG of mermaids sharing a platform with schools out.

Seems to happen a bit doesn't it. Males obtaining a position then women bringing questionable behaviour to light such as being caught lying, being inappropriate at work ( wanking in toilets or weird chiod porn animation/fiction stuff) or positng god knows what on social media or weird recruitments , being publically called bigots/homophobes/sexist/transphobes for pointing it all out then the person is quietly dropped or the position no longer exists anymore and they disappear off social media or any lists etc

So far we've had what? JB/LM/JM/period bro/AC

Theres never an apology still somehow they remain the victim 🙄

Datun · 04/10/2022 15:11

Also, the arrogance. He must have known that people would find out the links to paedophilia.

But even if Mermaids claim ignorance (although considering that link to Schools out, I don't see how), he isn't ignorant of his own affiliations and writings.

Did he just think I'll have at it for a few months at least before I'm asked to leave?

He cant possibly have thought being a trustee of a charity for vulnerable children is acceptable with his openly admitted 'desires'.

BlytheByName · 04/10/2022 15:25

Perhaps he thought he would not be scrutinised at all seeing as it’s nearly a decade since he made the speech about a shoe as a receptacle for jizz being akin to a child. I still can’t quite get over that.
He also presided over the course that gave us that hideous student from LSE last year who wrote a thesis about putting knives to our throats …
wrote something about desiring children … I suppose what I’m saying is the clues were there.
What brilliant woman noticed he was a trustee if it’s not been advertised? She deserves a medal.

As a primary teacher I’m just gobsmacked at the safeguarding failures. We have to look at everyone who becomes a governor, volunteers or is involved with our school. How could this happen?

Stonewall and Mermaids (and others) are literally 100% about pushing queer theory, and child-safeguarding is incompatible with queer theory? If they cared about child-safeguarding then they'd have to complete change the aims of the organisations.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 04/10/2022 15:32

The Mail have published a comprehensive report about it:

ArabellaScott · 04/10/2022 15:32

I think if you swim in a bubble that consists entirely of people applauding your deep insights on the subject of 'queering children's desire' or whatever the fuck it was called - and it seems to me, as an outsider, that academia is awash with people talking about 'queering' things and being lauded for it - and use all the correct buzzwords and references, and frame it as some kind of social justice defending the poor marginalised paedophile, or just a harmless experimental philosophical exercise comparing a child to a shoe in terms of receptacle, then you can perhaps convince yourself that it's all totally fine.

To be as charitable as I can be.

Frankly, it's the shoe comparison that does it for me. You don't use that word, you don't draw that inference, you don't make that analogy (at least, I don't see how you can) without having deeply, deeply corrupt ideas about children and consent.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 04/10/2022 15:36

If Mermaids weren’t so high profile for all the wrong reasons he probably would have got away with it. There are so many of these dodgy organisations with multifarious dodgy characters associated with them. No particular expertise in anything, certainly not child development or safeguarding, but deeply interested in education and “queer youth.” How long was he associated with School’s Out? And what did he do for them?
