“hoisted by their own petard” never seemed more apt, if true

According to this tweet, the issue at least is not a legal one.

And it's not only Mermaids. We all remember the NSPCC and others who have a big and important national role, who actively cheered this stuff on (www.barnardos.org.uk/news/joint-statement-barnardos-nspcc-national-childrens-bureau-and-childrens-society-about-gender). None of them must be allowed to magically step in with some "toolkit" or other bollocks, and gloss over their enabling of this.

I hope they're not allowed to get away with this. I hope their senior executives are forced to offer a grovelling apology and then made to resign.

Ditto all the celebrities who have jumped on the bandwagon over the years. We have the receipts. We won't let them forget.

Sadly, as we know, people get away with the most disgusting behaviour in this country (look at Hillsborough) and all the people who have enabled Mermaids will probably walk out unscathed.. But it's nice to dream.

It still really bothers me that Leo: Becoming a Trans Man www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0559vr5 is still on bbc iplayer, showing a 16 and their mum stating such things like chest binders are really good, puberty blockers are great and reversible, a trip to see Polly Carmichael at the Tavistock etc. I've asked the BBC to take this down and it's still there with its untruths. Can't BBC see the irony in it saying in the news that it hasn't taken child safeguarding seriously when they themselves are providing materials that aren't safe for children?

"I remember being horrified that the Autism Society? had initially teamed up with them and back pedalled."

National Autistic Society.

They removed their link to Mermaids based on a complaint without first hearing both sides of the debate. After others had contacted them they reinstated the link to Mermaids which remains today.

Ooh, quick, archive that! I bet it’ll be gone tomorrow!

. Cue lots of TRA comments along the lines of "you GC weirdos are telling Mermaids they can't send out sports bras."
yeah the thing about sports bras is you generally wear them when doing sport- they don’t usually advise you to sit it out when wearing one because you might pass out.

Finally! I wrote to our school board yesterday asking them to reconsider signposting kids to mermaids. I'm delighted with this latest development.

I noticed this week mermaids had been releasing statements along the lines of 'we are not being investigated, this is fake news. ..'. Ha!

Well reality and truth have never overly concerned them before…

Fantastic news.

But it's so sad. Some young people are clearly finding the pressure on their identity formation to be painful & sometime unbearable..

Think what Mermaids could have been:
a respectful helpful charity, brokering discussions between gender-questioning young people, their parents, and therapists.
Funding and sponsoring properly peer-reviewed research, investigating the phenomena of social contagion & ROGD,

Subsidising proper talking therapies where co-morbidities could be properly explored (eg autism, depression) and deeper root causes of body dysphoria (eg sexual abuse, bullying) also dealt with

Generally helping young people via the safe & scientifically-recommended "watchful waiting"

Instead, they are extremist activists, masquerading as a charity.

This would have been wonderful.

As it is, I say about bloody time too. These evil people need to be closed down before they damage more children.

Yep. I wrote to the BBC about that too. They don’t care. Is shocking that a taxpayer-funded broadcaster has this kind of sexualised brainwashing on its children’s channel 😢

I have it!

Let's not forget Rotherham MP Sarah Champion either.

I'm currently feeling very ill and shit but this HAS CHEERED ME ENORMOUSLY!!!! oh to see the TRAs peeing in their pants!

Jobsagoodun1 · 29/09/2022 20:03

If Mermaids go down the plug hole, we will see so many other sharks waiting to take their place.

Jobsagoodun1 · 29/09/2022 20:04

Oh and I bet ITV are backpedaling on their TV show too!

I think they’d call this “winning”.

Why?

That has made my day. So much bad news recently (of all types), but this is one little ray of hope! 🌞

Yes, and I still have cuttings and tweets from then, with Metro printing a full page ad and Anna Friel fawning over Mermaids.

Thank you BirdinaHedge

So many casualties in all this. I do hope that there is a rigorous investigation but at a time when politicians, charities and all sorts of once respected adults sound like pound shop predators as they eagerly promote body modification, early sterilisation and removing safety boundaries for children, I remain sceptical that this will lead anywhere.
Not until we return to a society where boundaries and the right to say no are respected and random adults trying to drive a wedge between children and their parents are seen and called out as the threat they really are, will these approaches begin to be rightly criticised and reversed.

rogdmum · 29/09/2022 20:24

There’s a lot more to it than just the binders. I think they’ll likely be told to change certain practices in both their youth and parent forums but that this isn’t the end for the charity. My hope is that it will raise enough awareness that schools, CAMHS etc will stop referring children and parents to them. I’d take that as a very big win.

If binders are sports bras then why the fuss about binders - just get girls sports bras? Simple

What's happened with the LGBA tribunal? I googled but can't work it out.

OMG12 · 29/09/2022 20:28

Excellent news, slowly chipping away at this harmful ideology

It didn't complete in the allotted time frame so has been adjourned to complete at a later date.

Feckedupbundle · 29/09/2022 20:34

Excellent news. My MP was boasting about the meetings that she'd had with them about a year ago, which prompted me to write to her.
I'm off the screenshot that, before it disappears.

LizzieSiddal · 29/09/2022 20:40

Just fantastic news! I’m sure the commission will be provided with a lot of evidence.

Who else remembers that photo of a child sat on a bed with a drag queen? I find that photo so disturbing and something a childrens charity should never think appropriate.
