Just saw a tweet where she calls PP a 'poundshop marine le Pen'
WTF! why are women who are supposedly in this fight together actively trying to sabotage another woman's activism?
Can we not move away from this schoolyard shit?

‘Posie Parker’ is amazing and scares them all so much as she shines a critical, common sense light on their nonsense. Absolutely loved it when she wiped the floor with Adrian Harrop.

Starfreeze · 25/09/2022 19:33

I agree with you! On pretty much all of this! So nice to see someone else write it all down!

@Starfreeze @MalagaNights This resonates so strongly with me too!
Although slightly confusing as I'd considered myself only just discovering feminism and feminist ideas!
Maybe label-free is the way to go...

Mollyollydolly · 25/09/2022 21:03

They're still at it on twitter. I've had it .. women I've donated to to help their activism doubling down on Poundshop Le Pen. Debate is good, vilification is vile. I wont forget, keeping a mental list of the women involved. Times are hard, I'll remember when deciding where my money goes.
This is brilliant from Aja.

That's a brilliant poem from Aja. And fwiw I totally agree with her points.

To me, the only error was in not realising that bad faith actors would exploit it.

But, either way, the determination to pretend it's a deliberate mocking of race, rather than mask clad TRAs is just plain daft.

I don't know if in the end we can expect people to expect crazy, much as it might be useful.

We live in a world where a photo of Welsh miners gets complaints because of "blackface".

Ninjas need to start looking out.

Surely a feminist is someone who believes in or fights for the rights of women as distinct from men? Either you're a feminist or a misogynist as far as I am concerned.

But that's based on my interpretation of what feminism is. I completely respect your position if you don't feel willing or able to publicly align with other people who identify as feminists.

I would say this is clearly not the case, if you consider the range of views allowed by the feminist border-guards.

After all, they don't think PP can be a feminist, as she is supposedly aligned with the right-wing.

Her views are very similar to those of a great many women who are in no way misogynists. They don't consider people like Louise Perry or Mary Harrington feminists either.

It's a bit of a mind-fuck, this insistence that if you aren't a feminist you must hate women or be under the thumb of the patriarchy, but if you are a feminist you must toe a very restrictive line in terms of your views of what is good for women. I suspect it's why many women feel somewhat angry about it rather than just indifferent.

antelopevalley · 26/09/2022 01:24

Not being okay with fascists or the extreme right-wing is not really a particularly restrictive line.

Zeeza · 26/09/2022 06:39

What does that look like in your view?

Does not being OK mean that we all get to send squads into public places and have anyone removed whose political views we disagree with before we arrive?

Well we know what it looks like. It means when the BNP start to speak out about girls being sexually abused by groups predominantly populated by one religious-ethnic group, the ‘right side of history’ people would rather enjoy feeling righteous by ignoring them than investigate the raising of a serious child safeguarding concern.

We know exactly where the ‘never listen. Never talk. Never engage’ approach leads. It leads to girls continuing to be tortured and abused.

We don’t need to fancy where the right side of history may lead. We know where actual history did lead.

Starfreeze · 26/09/2022 07:19

To clarify, that moment, realizing the raising of abuse was being ignored because of who was raising it, was when I stopped caring who said something and I instead assessed what they said based on what they said and the quality of their argument and reasoning on that issue.

Childrenofthestones · 26/09/2022 11:14

Never forget the BNP were only raising it because parents, relatives and the girls themselves went countless times to predominantly leftwing counils to try to get them to do something about it and were ignored.
Yes they used to their advantage but if the left hadn't abandoned the girls the BNP wouldn't have had the opportunity to do so.
In the words of Posie .... The house is on fire, your kids are inside and some people want you to vet the politics of those handing you buckets of water before you take it from them.

mirax · 26/09/2022 11:27

Not being okay with fascists or the extreme right-wing is not really a particularly restrictive line.

It is when when the definition of fascist has shifted beyond its historical application and indeed beyond all sense. I am deeply suspicious of anyone who uses it to police others. The extreme leftwing have been genocidal bastards (as have rightwing extremists)and in the present Labour party, deeply anti-semitic under the guise of human rights. The good sense of the british electorate or the gammons as so charmingly described by luxury communist outriders of Labour saved us a Corbynite premiership. Don't use terms like populist or fascist carelessly. As far as I am concerned, the modern left is wrong on everything from immigration to education policy and is fixated on identity politics and rabblerousing.

GingerPushkin · 26/09/2022 11:55

thanks @Mollyollydolly for the Aja poem link- it's absolutely brilliant- so glad i'm not alone in feeling angry about how some of the academic feminists treat other women (and men)- everyone is entitled to join this fight- and the irony is that many of these women in their ivory towers could learn something from the less pure, workaday people.

reesewithoutaspoon · 26/09/2022 11:56

Fascist is so diluted now to be almost meaningless. It's been thrown about by the left. willy-nilly to mean anyone who basically doesn't agree with us

It's got to the point now where when I hear someone call someone else a fascist I switch off. I know their arguments aren't worth listening to and will instead be full of mantras and slogans with very little substance.

AlisonDonut · 26/09/2022 11:57

I said years ago the reason they hate PP is because she says in 4 words when they spend years pontificating on.

Completely agree. It's why I've never called myself a feminist despite being invested in women's rights and child safeguarding. I've tried getting involved locally but found I couldn't relate to all squabbling over purity spirals and pontificating over lofty ideals

Alltheprettyseahorses · 26/09/2022 11:51

Does the left own feminism or do women own it?

The left seems to claim they do. In spite of never having female Labour leader.

The left's always done this, in spite of women's lives in Communist countries being even more crap than in capitalist ones.

What happened in USSR - women having to work, do all the childcare and housework and 'look beautiful' at the same time. Fuck that!

TheClogLady · 26/09/2022 12:41

I’ve started to call myself ‘radfem adjacent’ to indicate that I share a lot of the aims of radical feminism but would not survive a feminist purity spiral.

I suspect I’d be slung right off into the distance like a small Alabamian mobile home in a big tornado!

antelopevalley · 26/09/2022 13:15

It is not a feminist purity spiral to say you should not welcome fascists at your events. Kellie in her video has made it clear they are welcome to attend and film and if there is a fascist woman, to speak.

Don't make me laugh. Her videos are hardly to the point.
