My point actually was to counter the "rather flimsy arguments" on here that Gray got away with something and Sadowitz didn't.

Right, so aside from that detail, you do at least agree with the main point, in that it shouldn't have been cancelled. Right?

I'm not particularly interested in whether or not Sadowitz should have been cancelled.

My point was to counter the extremely disingenuous posts on here about why Gray was allowed to have nudity in Gray's show and the misguided post that it was up to the venue to have vetted Sadowitz's material before "booking" him.

It isn't a suggestion, it is as plain as day which type of men are allowed to get away with getting their penis out.

This. I have no issue with either of them doing it if it's expected as part of an adult comedy act, but it's really quite telling.

What is "quite telling"?

Do you think Jordan Gray was the only nude performer? Very definitely wasn't. I discounted several shows, male and female performers, because of nudity warnings. Off the top of my head Garry Star and a female circus performer at Summerhall.

We are. This is the thread where we're talking about it. If you're going to join in the thread, there's an onus on you to address the subject.

Joining in a thread to just feign disinterest and refuse to talk about the topic is disruption.

A Viva Your Vulva roadshow would be wonderful.

Actually, thinking about this further, this is an incredibly chilling position.

Saying "I do not care whether anyone's freedom is infringed - it's not interesting." Fascist, much?

I mean, arguing for it on some grounds, saying that those grounds outweighed the freedom principles, that could be a moral view. As is, obviously, arguing that the freedom principles are important.

But saying "freedom principles aren't interesting"? And less interesting than content warnings!? Truly the model footsoldier.

Waiting for M&S to put a warning on the door to the women's changing room.

I've explained my reasons- it's the hugely disingenuous points that Gray got a free pass (because Gray is transgrender) and Sadowitz didn't, because he isn't.

Plenty of other performers got Gray's " free pass".

I'm not interested in debating whether Sadowitz deserved to be cancelled. I'm interested in why some of you are promoting a false narrative about Gray.

nauticant · 30/08/2022 11:57

One of the interesting points is whether Sadowitz had his free pass revoked and what caused that. However, the way this has been handled means that rumour has muddled any clarity there might have been.

IcakethereforeIam · 30/08/2022 12:09

There was an article a few days ago about self identified 'woke' comedians. Sadowitz was explicitly mentioned. One of the interviewees, not a Sadowitz fan, had worked at a Sadowitz venue at the Fringe. It wasn't clear if it was this year. They seemed to have their own show this year, so may not have had time to also be an usher (they had a really irritating nickname for their 'fans', thankfully I've forgotten it).

If their attitude is typical of venue staff, that's definitely where I'd put the blame for Sadowitz getting cancelled.

I wish the Pleasance had been clearer. Perhaps, when Sadowitz tours all will become obvious. I might have some backtracking to do.

Personally I don't think defending Sadowitz by saying "he didn't call Sunak a P*- he said that's what his colleagues call him" helps Sadowitz's cause. I doubt very much that Sunak's colleagues do and saying it is verging on defamatory.

However the spurious comments about Gray and trying to suggest Gray, out of all the other performers whose shows included nudity, was a special case over Sadowitz add nothing.

I think this is from the Herald according to tweets below - an employee at the Viva your Vulva venue (now there’s a tongue twister!) apparently harassing women he thought were TERFs.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/08/2022 15:40

One of the women it happened to is on the thread and probably is the originator of the press report.

inkjet · 30/08/2022 16:38

Thanks Eresh I confess I haven’t RTFT I just thought I’d add it on.

The Gilded Balloon didn't cover themselves in glory here.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 30/08/2022 20:57

How does it work if a venue is slagging off customers and being unpleasant to them? Doesn’t that harm sales? This is so mad it makes sense that the ticket rippers are judging people who want to see a sell out show!

Waitwhat23 · 30/08/2022 21:18

I was a theatre usher when I was a student. I wouldn't have dreamed of giving any sort of opinion about a show someone was about to see and if I'd tried, my theatre management would have given me extremely short shrift.

It appeared from the accounts that they were slagging off ... well, acting in a discriminatory manner towards ... people who were already within the venue ‘ had probably therefore got their tickets already.
