Wish I was in Scotland I would go to her show.

I find it interesting that the ‘fringe’ is now so mainstream that it shuns such a performer.

I can see that one day there will be a fringe of the fringe.

JanieAllen · 17/08/2022 17:14

If you can go to her show DO... also buy a ticket and give to friend in Edinburgh if you have such a thing

People SPAT ON HER? Jesus Christ!

Lerouge · 17/08/2022 17:24

Omg, that is vile. The misogyny of this - it's off the scale.

BoredofthisCrap7 · 17/08/2022 17:30

Well, next time she should give them the show they want.

A show about TW neo vaginas, how they are made, why they are nothing like real vaginas, the complications of the surgery and post operatively and the lifelong problems that many TW have as a result.

I'm sure they would still complain about that. It would be a little to close to the truth that they don't actually want people to know.

StillWeRise · 17/08/2022 17:31

appalling
but very revealing- she really isn't excluding trans and NB people at all is she?
these activists just reveal more and more of themselves
I think it's in the Glinner interview that she talks about trans people with dementia and how they forget that they have transitioned, she speaks with compassion about a very sad situation but I wouldn't mind betting that if they knew about it the activists would be furious

On reflection I wonder whether her thoughts on transmen are what has got her into trouble. She talks about the issues they face as a result of the hormones they take (or at least she did in the talk I saw). Trans activists are all over demanding trans healthcare, but not if it suggests any sort of downside to medical transition, I guess.

Some of her stuff on YouTube does talk - very humanely & compassionately- about the urinary problems genital surgery can cause for trans-identified males.

She’s a physio - her thing is helping people.

It's not often I'm shocked by the depths to which TRAs descend, but this is beyond the pale.

She also said that if she got sent to prison for caring about women she would fix the fannies of the poorest and most marginalised women.

TAs don't like not being the most marginalised.

museumum · 17/08/2022 19:01

She is in no way transphobic. She is about anybody who was born with a vulva and vagina however they identify.

ohholyday · 17/08/2022 19:03

Once again proving that it's not about rights, it's about hatred of women.

You just looked at the pictures in that article, didn’t you?

Bindayagain · 17/08/2022 19:09

I'd like to get a ticket. Would it feel odd to go alone?

Bindayagain · 17/08/2022 19:11

I think I was most shocked by the stickers defacing the posters. There are so many things on in the fringe I could object to, but what right has anyone got to stop others from advertising their shows?

I often go to shows on my own if partner is away or not interested. If you're able to go and show support then do! I'm disgusted at the intolerance and misogyny of these people. Besides she is hilarious, if I was in Scotland I'd go and see her

You realise people are spitting at her in the street right?

Bindayagain · 17/08/2022 19:26

Good points Finlandia. I think this would cross the line for dh coming! It's sounds like a good show irrespective of any backlash.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 17/08/2022 19:27

I'm so sorry that she's going through this. She's spot on about the need for plain language in healthcare because the public health message is too important to be held hostage to ideology.

Not at all! Completely normal at the Fringe. I would love to go if I could.

pombear · 17/08/2022 19:44

Elaine, I'm sure you're not seeing this thread as you've got other things going on, but just adding another mumsnetter's support here, for what it's worth.

You are a champion for women's pelvic floors and the hidden and often unspoken issues that many women experience throughout their lives at different stages.

You've put yourself out there, both on other platforms and in with humour face-to-face at the fringe.

It's so evident from your previous work how much you care and are concerned for all women, including those young women, who will experience specific gynae issues due to identifying as trans, through both medication and surgery.

And from that article: "Going above and beyond the call of comic duty, Ms Miller said she invites audience members to chat with her at the bar after the show if they have any issues with the performance."

So many of us wish to have these conversations too. We're all open minded, empathetic, caring and willing to listen.

"On only two occasions have festival goers taken her up on the offer and she says both times they have found more common ground than disagreement. However, more and more comedians are being de-platformed in mainstream events."

What a phenomenal woman you are.

Great post, and I echo your point.

How many of those spitting, calling us witches and howling at us from the 'other side' would willingly offer to sit down and talk?

Igmum · 17/08/2022 20:47

So sorry to hear this. I came across her on the Mumsnet nest of vipers boards - incredibly funny, very informative and (after over a decade and a half of problems down there) actually got me to ask for a referral to a specialist physio. This woman does good

Melroses · 17/08/2022 21:02

I hate people telling you to do pelvic floors, but I love Elaine xxxxx

A while ago, I followed her instructions and followed her online and chatted and now I know how to do them properly 👍

(And she is fun)

(And her video with her son's budgies made me smile)
