Well this is interesting. Sometimes it's ok to get your dick out.

There was a nudity warning for Gray's show on the official Fringe website.

There's no reason to complain about or criticise a show which warned you there would be nudity if it does, actually, have nudity.

TheClogLady · 29/08/2022 13:29

It should have been advanced disclosed on the website and at the venue, definitely.

but Sadowitz has been getting his dick out for decades without anyone shutting the show down previously, so I’d say the fault lies with the booker/venue/ticket sales agent/the system that collects advance info on the performance, rather than the performer.

Nope. The fault lies 100% with Sadowitz. The onus is on the performer to provide accurate information to the Fringe website.

There were over 3,000 shows at the Fringe. Acts are not "booked" by "booker/venue/ticket sales agent/the system". That's not how the Fringe works. The performers book a performing space- they are not booked by the venue or a promoter. Other than possibly The Traverse, which is quasi- official, the venues don't exercise any control or sifting of who books a space.

It's beyond realistic to expect the venues to check the level of detail you are suggesting and that's not how the deal works.

I've no idea that Sadowitz has been doing this for decades. I've been attending the Fringe for over 30 years. He's not a performer I have any desire to see but I wasn't aware of this.

There were many acts which provided information on the official website that nudity, sexual references etc, were involved. Sadowitz chose to ignore that.

I thought the people that were upset by Sadowitz were staff, not attendees?

I don't know and for the purposes of this current discussion, I don't much care.

I really don't like the recent posts trying to suggest Jordan Gray got away with something and Sadowitz didn't.

IcakethereforeIam · 29/08/2022 17:19

Jordan equating a naked grown man with a naked toddler is making me a little queasy, but perhaps it's in the delivery. Otherwise completely agree, as the nudity was flagged, that's not problematic.

I thought the statement cancelling Sadowitz didn't mention his penis, but I may be misremembering.

apparently deliberately unzipping himself in close proximity of and targeting one female audience member

apparently

Nobody seems to have the full facts, yet you're prepared to condemn someone for what they 'apparently' did. Nice.

www.theguardian.com/stage/2022/aug/15/jerry-sadowitz-hits-back-after-show-cancelled-edinburgh-fringe

Sadowitz said he exposed himself in the show “for the purpose of the funny line which follows it”

Some posters on here are trying to make something out of the fact Gray was naked and it's somehow unfair to Sadowitz that he couldn't get away with this too.

"I was at the show. He called Rishi Sunak a 'p—,' said the economy was awful because it is run by 'blacks and women,'" one audience member told The Sun. "He got his penis out to a woman in the front row. The problem was not the audience – I knew he was an acquired taste. It was his indefensible content." The Guardian reports that about 30 to 40 people walked out, but Sadowitz claimed he didn't see anyone leave.

It isn't a suggestion, it is as plain as day which type of men are allowed to get away with getting their penis out.

It has damn all to do with "what type of men"

Whereareyourshoes · 29/08/2022 22:12

Not hugely interested in various people getting their dicks out on stage.

But am delighted that I made it to see Viva your Vulva! Brilliant show and Elaine Miller is an inspiration.

Did she say anything about taking her show on the road?

"I was at the show. He called Rishi Sunak a 'p—,' said the economy was awful because it is run by 'blacks and women,'" one audience member told The Sun. "He got his penis out to a woman in the front row.

Well we know the first part of the 'eye witness' statement is untrue. JS didn't call Sunak 'a p-', he said that the tories would call him 'a p-'.
That's not the same thing. I wish JS hadn't used the word, I'd be happy if I never heard it again, but he didn't call anyone by that word.

So, as we know the first part of the statement is untrue we have no reason to assume that the second part is true, do we?

Sadowitz himself has said he got his penis out.

Are you being deliberately disingenuous?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 30/08/2022 02:17

icake - yes, she told me she’d tour. Needs pub function rooms rather than theatres so she can speak to the womem

I am not sure how she’d get around the compulsory cock out for comedy routine.
Maybe she should have a puppet?

I’m sure someone can make Elaine a prop cock!! 😂

Did you see the bottle of champagne with Viva your Vulva label & 💚🤍💜ribbons on it?

There was a clear nudity warning on Gray's show. It wasn't the only show which featured nudity.

So why was the second performance cancelled? You've constructed a rather flimsy argument about why the selective outrage, but you've forgotten that you're supposed to be justifying the cancellation, and have totally failed to.

All that was required, according to your argument, was a piece of A4 stuck to the doors of the theatre adding the allegedly-missing nudity warning.

My point actually was to counter the "rather flimsy arguments" on here that Gray got away with something and Sadowitz didn't.

There were several reports that the unzipping was in front of a female audience member.

As for disingenuous-,the irony of posters defending a man exposing himself is off the scale.

This. I have no issue with either of them doing it if it's expected as part of an adult comedy act, but it's really quite telling.

@TheLassWiADelicateAir
You are "defending a man exposing himself". It's just a

It's not exposure in either case because it's part of a theatrical performance. The showing of a penis was not intended to alarm or distress anyone, it was to get laughs or make a point or shock. Both shows were for adults, one had an explicit nudity warning, the other had a warning of adult/challenging content. There is no material difference between the shows in that regard.

BellaAmorosa · 30/08/2022 08:25

*indecent exposure

Right, so aside from that detail, you do at least agree with the main point, in that it shouldn't have been cancelled. Right?

Didn't someone vaguely famous knit one recently? They'll probably have a pattern, with an explicit warning.
