To be honest, I think some of those photos look dreadful. They made me squirm and I say that knowing the context, and remembering that even luminaries like Julie Bindel were laughing and retweeting the Black Pampers meme only a couple of weeks ago. But I am also unimpressed at posters trying to use the Black Mumsnetters board to (and I quote) 'settle' an argument. I thought it was meant to be a place where black posters could talk among themselves, uninterrupted, about whatever they choose?

I don't think anyone is realistically saying take it to BMN, that would be awful because it is blatantly racist.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/06/2022 11:31

You're not interested in hearing from black people on race issues.

Not what I said. It's not my place to post there. I will however call out misogynistic slurs here on the feminist board. Whoever is using them. The slur Karen is retconned from "speak to the manager" misogyny from (white) MRAs on Reddit. It's had a faux progressive spin since then, which is great for misogynistic men. You appear to be unaware of this.

Anyway I have said this many times. I'll say it again, I imagine, but that's enough for now.

I think the men have arrived to mansplain to the women...

This is always what women on here say when women feminists point out racism. The feminist board has had an issue with racism for a long time. So the denial of obvious blackface does not surprise me.

WithAnXXHere · 02/06/2022 13:00

I find it racist that some are implying that there are no black women on FWR.

Also, BMN is not a place where people should go to settle arguments from other boards.

francesfrankenfurter · 02/06/2022 13:01

Nobody has said there are no black women on FWR. But if there are they are either staying silent, or can't recognise racism.

I get it, I get it.

You're not interested in hearing from black people on race issues.

Black Mumsnet us a space that was specifically requested as a 'non white' space, many threads remind posters, some of whom may have been drawn in by a thread appearing in Active, of that at the outset.

What you are trying to do is the equivalent of TRAs shouting 'what about intersex people?'

It is irrelevant to your argument. And that cohort of people have asked to be left out of various debates, to be left to direct their own discussions without having to explain themselves, their life experiences.

Toosoups · 02/06/2022 13:17

It would be intriguing to hear from any black feminists reading to hear their opinion on the "Black Pamper" character.

Floisme · 02/06/2022 13:26

I take a dim view of pasting threads from the Black Mumsnetters board on here to try and score points, just as I do of white Mumsnetters posting on that board, whether that's to argue or seek approval. As far as I'm concerned, BMN posters should be left alone to talk about whatever they want, and yes, that includes criticising FWR if they so wish.

francesfrankenfurter · 02/06/2022 13:57

Black Mumsnet board really will not appreciate a group of white women asking them if they think black pampers is blackface and racist.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 02/06/2022 14:15

black balaclavas are blackface now.

and being a lesbian is racist and probably also colonialist, and definitely fascist.

Why are these assholes so incredibly tiresome? Don't they get fed up of themselves? Don't they bore themselves shitless? If you locked one of these utter fuckwits in a room by himself how long would it be before he started shouting "FASCIST RACIST!" "NO YOU'RE A FASCIST RACIST TRANSPHOBE!" at himself? I reckon three hours.

God, they're so boring.

francesfrankenfurter · 02/06/2022 14:22

Why are you lying? No one has said balaclava are racist or that lesbians are racist. Blackface is racist.

No one had blackface, so why it’s even a topic here, I don’t know.

How is a man wearing a black balaclava and a black hoodie racist?

I put it to the posters above that THEY are the real racists here!

You've missed a few references to things that have happened in the real world.

Alison Bailey's tribunal for example.

Maybe so. Going to continue to challenge misogyny, on the feminist board, though. Hope that clears things up.

I'm not saying all white people are victims. I'm saying I'm going to challenge misogynistic slurs as and when they occur. It has zero to do with race, for me. Having a special word for middle aged women who don't accept shit from people is misogyny. We all know full well it's not mostly used for racists in the U.K. The race spin its been given in America is a recent addition. Nice try though.

francesfrankenfurter · 03/06/2022 11:23

Wendi totally agree. Every time I point out racism i am told I am racist.
You would think women who argue so strongly that words meanings matter might apply this principle more widely. They don't.

francesfrankenfurter · 03/06/2022 11:25

And in Britain there is a large black feminist movement that operates almost totally separately from the one this board talks about. They don't engage in or excuse blackface. They are separate for good reasons.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/06/2022 11:30

I don't believe that Mr Menno was doing blackface. It was based on the TRAs and the idiot who spoke to Piers Morgan. I understand that some black people found it offensive and I can see why (especially with the amount of bad faith stirring going on) but I don't think it was deliberate. Just my opinion.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 03/06/2022 11:35

At risk of boring you to tears, has anyone gone out of to Twitter to take those TRAs to task for their sartorial choices?

No? Just here then!

francesfrankenfurter · 03/06/2022 11:45

It may not have been deliberate blackface, but I am amazed that no one thought this look combined with the title black pampers would be seen as racist.
And if women had held their hands up and said fine,it was not the intention but we can see how it looks and will delete the pictures and video, fine. Instead nearly everyone has doubled down and insisted there is nothing wrong with the back pampers name and image.

francesfrankenfurter · 03/06/2022 11:46

If the comedian had dressed like those protestors we would not be here. He even created a large mouth area so it looks like the classic blackface.
