Funny how some people manage to see a black curly wig that isn't there. Weird how they see what they want to see and not what is actually there.

LoopyOldLady · 30/05/2022 19:36

The performer here was undoubtedly wearing a wig, there are numerous photos of this, including on KJKs twitter, and a video of the whole skit is easy to find.

The TRA protesters at the Pankhurst statue where obviously not parodying black people, they were wearing Black Bloc, a term that refers to generic black clothing that conceals ones identity in a crowd of others dressed the same. It is a common tactic used at many protests worldwide, certainly not exclusive to TRAs, it is particularly popular among the anarchist crowd.
Clearly wearing generic black clothing to conceal your identity as part of a crowd is not racist, it is absurd to suggest so.
Wearing a skin tight black bodysuit with a wig and nappy whilst performing a skit seemingly based on the concept of TRAs being 'Black Pampers' I believe could be seen to have racist overtones (blackface/ and the play on black pamper-black panther). It is the wig that probably pushes this across the line IMO, none of the Pankhurst TRAs were wearing skintight suits or wigs..

I should point out at this point that I am not actually defending the Pankhurst protesters, they are obviously ripe for ridicule, just not like this.. I mean the optics of an all or 99% white crowd cheering a performer in what I think most people would consider 'blackface' are probably as bad if not worse than the idiot Pankhurst protesters, as usual with this debate, the extremists on both sides destroy the grounds for a rational discussion.

PerfectionValley · 30/05/2022 19:36

If anyone thinks that the person in the black morph suit looks like a black person then the problem is you.

And there is no curly wig either, that's you outsourcing your thinking to Twitter where that was first claimed.

LoopyOldLady · 30/05/2022 19:44

The performer is clearly wearing a wig in a number of pictures, have you watched the video of the whole skit?
It is the combination of skintight suit, wig and nappy that makes it look like blackface, I mean why wear a wig at all? the morph suit already covers your face

If you dont wish to click that link (understandable I suggest you scroll thorugh KJKs twitter, or if you are of the TRA persuasion, try Owen Jones twitter.

Why's he wearing a second skin bodysuit which are designed to look naked?

He's cut the mouth out (none of the protesters had their mouths uncovered) which emphasises the lips, he's not wearing a balaclava but is wearing a a curly/wavy black wig.

The black wig was mocking the white man on Piers Morgan a few weeks ago.

Let's be honest, people are stretching this simply because it was a KJK event. If this had happened at a TRA event, it would have been labeled as progressive.

Hmmm I don't buy that at all, he was wearing a wig because someone appeared on Piers Morgan with black hair/wig a few weeks ago?
I mean if that had provoked a meme like the Black Pampers/Black Panthers thing that followed the Pankhurst event and that this costume would appear to be based on then maybe? I would have thought that someone could have pointed out how awful combing the two would appear though...
I think this theory seems far more of a stretch than admitting a white man wearing a 'Black Pamper' costume consisting of a skin-tight black morph suit with the mouth cut out, a black wig and a nappy, playing the fool in front of an overwhelmingly (all?) white audience might appear very much like blackface to some observers, particularly in the uk with our history of the minstrel show etc

It may be that the greatest crime here is probably just how unfunny the skit was, the man performing it is supposedly a gender critical youtube comedian, I would suggest he finds some better material.

Not sure I have anything else to add here that i have not already said, watch the full video, make up your own mind, personally I think it looks pretty suspect.

LoopyOldLady · 30/05/2022 21:04

Just to add as a couple of posters previously seemed to insinuate that maybe I was posting just to whip up controversy, they are wrong, the video of this is controversial enough (and all over my twitter), discussing it is fair game.

My interest in this event was peaked by a GC friend who attended this gathering, I agree with her on some points of the trans debate, not on others, she seemed somewhat uncomfortable with this too and unwilling to defend it, saying the applause was mostly of the polite British 'move along kind' (which is not IMO what I see in the video) If your counter argument to mine is "I have more posts than you", you are not having a serious discussion.

FemaleAndLearning · 30/05/2022 21:07

The people putting the fake banning up of speaking at Hyde Park clearly know nothing of the history of free speech at Speakers Corner. There are Speakers Corners all over England.

lovelyweathertoday · 30/05/2022 21:21

Hmmm I don't buy that at all, he was wearing a wig because someone appeared on Piers Morgan with black hair/wig a few weeks ago?

On the day of the Manchester speakers corner event there were people dressed as "black bloc" protecting the statue from women being able to stand near it.

They also manhandled a woman who stood near the statue.

They were nicknamed the "black pampers" because they were dressed fully in black and were obviously young,

In the aftermath Piers Morgan interviewed a representative of theirs called Jane. Jane wore a black wig for the interview.

The outfit worn at Hyde Park was making fun of the black outfits and the fool who spoke to Piers.

www.thelondoneconomic.com/news/watch-piers-morgan-called-c-word-live-on-air-talktv-uncensored-rationgs-trans-rights-322821/

It was probably a bit niche but would have been understood by people who follow these events.

ScreamingMeMe · 30/05/2022 21:32

He's cut the mouth out (none of the protesters had their mouths uncovered) which emphasises the lips,

He had a dummy as part of the act. And some of them did have mouth holes, although I think they had face masks in underneath. (See attached photos.)

The wig was to take the piss out of Jane from the Piers Morgan interview. He also had some similar sunglasses.

I appreciate that it hasn't landed well for some people. I honestly don't think any offence whatsoever was intended from. Mr Menno, he seems like a very decent sort.

Yes, the usual bad faith suspects among the TRAs and vocal people on our side of the argument who disapprove of Kellie Jay Keen and those who follow her.

FemaleAndLearning · 30/05/2022 22:53

Was it Mr Menno dressed up as the black nija aka black pamper (the nappy brand)? I really like him.

So don't, then. It's a free country.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 31/05/2022 09:33

Strange - again, only berating the women for this.

Nobody walked up to those men in Manchester and said "I say old chap, blackface is insulting, fuck off like a good boy". Nobody went to their online playground and told them they were being racist.

No. Police told women to go away, to leave the men in the deliberately provocative clothing to do exactly as they wanted.

No. But plenty of people have chosen to shout at female online spaces, here, on Twitter etc.

I wonder why that is?

francesfrankenfurter · 31/05/2022 09:48

The men in Manchester were not wearing blackface.

WithAnXXHere · 31/05/2022 13:14

Let's face it, KJK isn't allowed to put a foot wrong. She's also deemed responsible for anything that happens when she's around.

These ridiculous standards she's held to aren't just given by the TRAs. Sadly, many feminists hold her to stupid standards too.

"Burn the witch" is alive and well...

francesfrankenfurter · 31/05/2022 13:54

You think standing by filming as someone runs around in blackface at an event is holding someone to ridiculous high standards?
Personally I think it is like Boris Johnson supporters, whatever she does can not be wrong.

ScreamingMeMe · 31/05/2022 15:15

If that's what had actually happened, no. But it wasn't.

FemaleAndLearning · 31/05/2022 23:51

Good speech by a woman from Nordic Model Now. Apparently Unison are voting on whether to give up their fight for the Nordic model so she was encouraging members of Unison to write to keep it going.
They also have a handbook for uni's to counteract the narrative of using prostitution to fund university (Leicester Uni?).
Link to the handbook.

The men in Manchester were not wearing blackface.

Nor was the person in London. It’s clothing, a body suit, not make up.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 01/06/2022 03:38

The men in Manchester were a bunch of homophobic thugs.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 01/06/2022 03:39

Misogynist & homophobic thugs, that should say.
