Side? What side?
Who said anything about a side??

A brief case management hearing.

5-10 mins, AH reckons.

Rightsraptor · 19/05/2022 15:18

I agree @ANewCreation that the word gender is germane to Allison's tweet.

What kind of person argues against someone saying ' X extremists - your time is up!'? Only those who recognise themselves in that description.

ickky · 19/05/2022 15:18

Peter Daly vaping away 😄

Is anyone else listening to this and thinking ahead to Stonewall etc... challenge to LGB Alliance's charitable status? We've Had JK agree that there was nothing inherently transphobic about LGB Alliance, nor with what AB was tweeting or her concerns.

Hope the protagonists are watching this - all their emails in public view. All the squirming and public embarrassment to come. I think these organisations are so tied up in their righteous bubbles that they don't realise saying 'that hurts my feelings' won't work in a court of law. Indeed they think they are beyond the law. But, as we have seen in several cases, they are simply mot.

SelfPortraitWithFoxInSmokingJacket · 19/05/2022 15:19

They haven't realised that they themselves are carrying prejudice and that thought is hard for them to swallow.

I think this is right, and I suspect this chambers, full as it was of people who believed themselves to be unshakeably On The Right Side Of History, might have been more vulnerable to Stonewall than a chambers which had a different sort of culture. If people are just in it for the money, or the status, or the challenge, or the thrill of being in court, they are less resistant to being criticised and may actually behave better. It's one of the problems with every kind of puritanism, that those most susceptible - and who become most destructive in their zealotry - are often the people to whom being good really matters.

BC: Did you read these complaints before you decided to send out your response tweet?
JK: Can't remember.

Chrysanthemum5 · 19/05/2022 15:21

Do we know what the case issue was?

SelfPortraitWithFoxInSmokingJacket · 19/05/2022 15:21

JK keeps mentioning the reputational damage potentially caused by AB

Anyone remember the moment in Forstater when a CGD witness mentioned trying to limit relational damage and Ben Cooper said, very gently, "It would be unkind of me to ask how that went..."? 😂

Zebracat · 19/05/2022 15:22

Well it’s all going on isn’t it?
I have seen this in my own life, people think I have a bee in my bonnet about “the trans stuff” and that I keep banging on, and they feel that they are kinder and have a superior understanding. I see the same look on peoples faces that I feel on my own when a friend talks about crystals and horoscopes . We have been seen as the conspiracy theorists/ outliers and not worthy of respect, but needing to be kept in line. But for these people to have so little respect for a colleague, who had always been honest and principled is still shocking.

NoImAVeronica · 19/05/2022 15:22

My internet fell over and I'm just back in - apparently I missed lip-balm??

Did they say what the case-management hearing was about?

SelfPortraitWithFoxInSmokingJacket · 19/05/2022 15:22

Reputational, dammit!

CriticalCondition · 19/05/2022 15:23

chilling19 · 19/05/2022 15:12

Also another derailing tactic as BC hones in like a laser

Yup. It is remarkable how it is BC on the receiving end of interruptions, objections, witness non-availability, immovable cameras that create teeny tiny views of witnesses under his cross examination, distracting echoes etc. He seems to have been able to conduct his client's case without creating any of these issues for the other side.

Turquoisellama · 19/05/2022 15:25

Can anyone explain how to download the documents everyone is allowed to download, please? Or do you have to write in or something?

nauticant · 19/05/2022 15:26

By the way, what was the crisis that had engulfed chambers that distracted JK from being able to look properly at the complaints? (I don't think she was referring to a bereavement, I have a sense that was a separate matter.) I don't recall any of the other GCC barristers talking about being in the midst of a crisis.

Chrysanthemum5 · 19/05/2022 15:27

Dealing with this was the crisis but they were also very busy doncha know. And jolly kind to Allison so she shouldn't have been mean to them

Yes, that was a great moment.

If you're signed in to the hearing Turquoisellama you click on the links in the chat section to download the documents.

If you're not there, you can get hold of a very limited set of documents but they won't help you to follow the hearing.

JeffThePilot · 19/05/2022 15:28

Rightsraptor · 19/05/2022 15:04

JK keeps mentioning the reputational damage potentially caused by AB but all I'm seeing here is how incompetent GCC are. And they're doing it all by themselves.

Indeed.
I often have to instruct barristers in my own job. Mostly I am in different geographic areas (though not a million miles away) but if I was to need someone for London hearings I know I’d be wary of this Chambers, given this showing.
