The issue is the fact Chambers, through the trans rights working group, took a side on a political issue. So of course if anyone takes the other side they're going to say it goes against their position.

I guess, using the 'crime' example, it would be similar to Chambers taking a position that it will campaign for drug legalisation and establishing a 'drug legalisation working group'. Then if/when someone tweeted they were against legalising drugs, telling them they have to moderate/change their tweets so that it doesn't contradict Chambers stated position.

murderbythebook · 19/05/2022 14:31

What is the question? [agog]

nauticant · 19/05/2022 14:33

BC: did you think that the claim GCC was in breach of the Equality Act was actually a fact?

JK seems to accept this. That a barristers' chambers should have looked into a statement about the law like this.

Oh dear.

ickky · 19/05/2022 14:33

Surely before you throw a longstanding member of chambers under the bus, you would at the least, despite how busy you are, would look at the tweet?

It is unbelievable that JK didn't see it.

Waffle, excuses, blah blah blah. Finally the answer - someone else's fault, didn't give enough of a shit to do my own due diligence, anyway not my fault,

murderbythebook · 19/05/2022 14:34

Ooh, that was a good question. Thanks nauticant

Rightsraptor · 19/05/2022 14:34

How could Allison be in breach of the EQA 2010 as an individual? I thought it only applied to public bodies, companies etc.

ickky · 19/05/2022 14:35

GCC actions show that they thought AB was transphobic.

OP posts:
chilling19 · 19/05/2022 14:35

But the tweet you sent out tells everyone that GCC agreed that Allison was transphobic.

BC has the patience of a saint.

NoImAVeronica · 19/05/2022 14:35

Erm - MB email complaining about washing dirty transphobic laundry in public?

SenselessUbiquity · 19/05/2022 13:15

I think there is something about how some people, say, some men my age and older, are actually deep-down full of resentment and irritation about anything they think of as "right on" and they think it's all obstructive nonsense. They have been convinced over many years of patient training by HR depts that they aren't allowed to make racist or sexist remarks, but in their hearts they do adhere to their structural superiority, they just can't admit it. Now, apparently, "we are supposed to do anything that is required of us by [perhaps a phrase about a certain sex in a certain garment]" they think crossly, "along with everything else" - but it is no more or less ridiculous than anything else that they already resent. So there is no analysis from them either, because their analysis is just that everything was fine "before" and now we have to pretend to respect people that we actually don't, just to keep our jobs and seniority.

Very insightful. I think deeds not words are important when exposing these sorts of underlying beliefs.

GCC say they believe in equality, progressiveness etc but they are bending over backwards (seemingly) to be concerned about the vulnerabilities of a man but can't be bothered to find out about the death threats against an arguably equally vulnerable woman. Their deeds do not show equality of approach.

Excellent summary @chilling19

Thank you 👍

Signalbox · 19/05/2022 14:42

.

nauticant · 19/05/2022 14:42

JK seems to think that AB needed to have warned GCC in advance of sending a tweet which unbeknownst to AB was about to cause a storm, but isn't so keen to say that GCC needed to have warned AB is advance of sending a tweet that anyone could see would be damaging to AB.

Good point

Xiaoxiong · 19/05/2022 14:43

Who are LT and Mark W in these exchanges? I'm following along on tribunal tweets but can't find either of those names on the dramatis personae.

ickky · 19/05/2022 14:44

I know JK is being quite cagey, but she is much more forthcoming than other members of GCC.

OP posts:
Ameanstreakamilewide · 19/05/2022 14:45

Leslie Thomas who was a HoC at the time, and Mark Wainwright.

I can't remember who the latter is.

It's definitely an omnishambles!

chilling19 · 19/05/2022 14:48

I find it very hard to believe that GCC have not carried out a series review of every action that everyone took about this situation leading up to the tribunal.

So, for me, the 'I can't remember bullshit' is a deliberate strategy to cover up their appalling failure of process.

ickky · 19/05/2022 14:48

AH interrupting again, EJ tells him to pipe down and save it for cross.

NoImAVeronica · 19/05/2022 14:48

EJ to AH 'save it' 😂

Ben's doing something!
