Some bearded American pillocks are objecting to the idea of Mumsnetters talking about feminism. Hadley Freeman and other feminists are doing an excellent job of responding.

You may have to log out of the twitter app

Twitter sometimes hides posts anyway but if you know a @ you can usually find the individual tweets

Sophoclesthefox · 24/03/2022 12:30

unless they say "cs" then the post is deleted and there's loud complaining about "cs is a slur" wawawah...

Again, this isn’t true. Posters can absolutely use the word “cis”. They just can’t apply it to users who do not identify as being cis, because deliberate misgendering is against the site rules.

Are you lobbying for deliberate misgendering to be allowed? Is that not a bit…transphobic? Confused

Artichokeleaves · 24/03/2022 12:31

wawawah....

Confused

I love James Dreyfus. Here's his take on it.

That's because it is.

DomesticatedZombie · 24/03/2022 12:36

I am continually perplexed by the Anglophone divergence on transphobia. Why is there so much more TERF representation in the UK elite than in their US and Canadian peers?

Parklife.

DomesticatedZombie · 24/03/2022 12:37

@Floisme

Whatever I may think of the general level of TWAW discourse, I have to concede that the strategy of lobbying MNHQ for a separate 'sex and gender' discussion board, then patrolling Mumsnet to ensure that all threads on the topic are moved to this board and then complaining about the number of threads about the topic on here was actually quite clever.
It was.
TheABC · 24/03/2022 12:38

I should really go over to twitter and hand out the smelling salts. If they can't cope with the Sex & Gender board, they have no hope with AIBU.

We have sex, gin and fish slice.
But no more fucks to give.

@WeeBisom

It's absolutely hilarious to hear people say that Mumsnet is a far right recruitment zone, and '4 chan for middle class white women'. Yep, someone had better call Prevent, there's an awful lot of women being radicalised.
Sue Pascoe (C4 Diversity and Inclusion) did notify PREVENT…Seriously.

And a Police force claims to have monitoring teams watching us (they had to walk this back a little).

Interesting that one of the dismissals thrown at a GC tweeter was 'take a Xanax'

Remember that 'glitter family' tweet or meme about 'Go to bed. Take your meds. I love you.'

A reminder that 65% of the US population is on at least one prescription drug. 25% of the UK population. Drugs are directly sold to consumers in only 2 countries: the USA and NZ.

To Americans, it is normal to be medicalised. They've had decades of adverts telling them that showing live means getting your loved ones onto a (profitable) pharma product. In the same way that we've had decades of advertising telling us we are only good mothers if we provide regular bars of chocolate and Oxo for our families.

SidewaysOtter · 24/03/2022 12:39

The second ep is called Terf Island, and is all about mumsnet! The woman explaining how mumsnet is a radicalisation hotbed spreading fascism

Sadly there are an awful lot of people - usually those who'd pride themselves on being liberal but in reality are so open minded that their brains have fallen out - who equate women advocating for the protection of sex-based rights to fascism. In fact, one little person of my unfortunate acquaintance equates questioning trans rights to the holocaust.

It seems to be the debating equivalent of Godwin's Law - "We know we're losing the battle and we know we're in the wrong if we look at things logically so we'll throw around accusations of fascism because we've got nothing else" Hmm

He does, of course, believe that Mumsnet is a hotbed of TERFism presumably because women being allowed to talk freely and think for ourselves is a bad thing unless we're toeing the party line. Much as I'm sure he'd call himself a feminist (there aren't enough eye rolls for that), that he thinks he has the right to tell women why they're wrong about women's issues boggles my mind in many directions at once.

There are so many of these men on Twitter and they are all self congratulating and reinforcing each other's righteousness.

.
I remember her coming over here, getting her arse handed to her and limping back to twitter to get arse pats from her followers.
Betty91 · 24/03/2022 12:42

Do they not hear themselves? Do they really think this is anything new at all? "Oh look is it a mother's meeting" "she's an old hag" "she's a crone" "she wouldn't shut up"

All you lot who think Mumsnetters should STFU might think you're morally superior and are telling women to be quiet for all the best reasons - but so did every other person throughout history who singled out women to shut up. YOU are the ones who are on the wrong side of history.

LondonWolf · 24/03/2022 12:43

I don't think it's just MN who are responsible for our rep as "TERF Island". I do think that as a people, Brits are hard to guilt and quick to point out the nonsensical. Every day I feel relief I live here in place that is not so soaked on identity ideology and wokeism as other places. That will probably change but I do hope not.

LaurenKelsey · 24/03/2022 12:44

Might be worth a hate listen, if you need an extra bit of energy to get the windows clean or whatever...

LOL 😂

Dendrite · 24/03/2022 12:45

@WinterTrees

Men want to own and dominate the internet like they have owned and dominated all public physical space since the start of time.

They mostly succeed, as they have done since the start of time.

Mumsnet really, really pisses them off.

Nail on head.
LittleGwyneth · 24/03/2022 12:46

Makes me so angry. I don't always agree with how trans issues are discussed here, but MN is one of the few places in the world where women are prioritised. It's a genuine safe space, a place where you can ask anything and get advice about anything. It's amazing how angry that makes certain people.

OvaHere · 24/03/2022 12:46

@sashagabadon

My opinion is that the U.K. is simply a few years forward on this debate than most other nations. Literally leading the world on it. And that is because of Mumsnet imo. We get told we are behind in the general debate when actually we are ahead!
Yes. This.

thirded...

Every other platform has been designed and dominated by men and for men. Twitter will chuck you off for saying certain people are men... but allows adult content ...

It used to be Father's for Justice getting furious with the Relationship board - now it's Canadian and American beards getting cross at this bit.

Clymene · 24/03/2022 12:52

Does sooz kempner self identify as a comedian? Confused

SidewaysOtter · 24/03/2022 12:53

Do they really think this is anything new at all? "Oh look is it a mother's meeting" "she's an old hag" "she's a crone" "she wouldn't shut up"

You've only got to look at some of the pamphlets/postcards aimed at mocking suffragettes to see how women who wanted the vote were depicted as ugly harridans. Nowt changes, does it?
