@LostTxn
I take, er, considerably more than that, but my body has some novel ideas about functioning. It’s years now since I was last in the States, but even as a toddler I was shocked by the way that medication was advertised and obviously made my disapproval known and watching TV there as a teen & in my twenties I never ceased to be boggled by all the “ask your doctor if [name of prescription medication] is right for you!” ads.
I may be staying the blindingly obvious, but polypharmacy causes its own set of issues: even with patients who have really complex health needs the aim here (UK) is always to minimise how many medications we have to take because they invariably interact with each other to some degree.
Please be careful if you decide to discontinue any of your medication: some things you need to taper to come off them safely.
As PermanentTemporary suggested, using the NICE guidelines to inform your decision-making is worth doing. I know you might hear about our not getting access to drugs, but those (very sad) cases are when NICE rule they can’t justify recommending something that costs millions per dose. (There are also some drugs only hospital consultants can prescribe & sometimes they’re only allowed to prescribe for certain groups of patients, but they can apply to be allowed to prescribe outwith The Rules with good reason [& get decisions in days] too.)
I hope you’re able to get yourself safely sorted soon - whether that means staying on 7 medications; coming off them all; or even needing to increase (now or some time in the future) how many you take.
