Some bearded American pillocks are objecting to the idea of Mumsnetters talking about feminism. Hadley Freeman and other feminists are doing an excellent job of responding.

in 2021, little interest compared to the 4 (?) threads on Maya F's hearing that have clocked up hundreds of posts each - if you just look over the topics now, they are mostly "trans women are yucky" themed.

I just googled. It wasn't a comprehensive search.

@Wnikat

This one is really special: twitter.com/ricardo_jpl

Why do so many women retweet the patronising men???

🙄

LTB is so much the mantra of far right ultra conservative religion groups.🤷🏼‍♀️

Floisme · 24/03/2022 11:55

Whatever I may think of the general level of TWAW discourse, I have to concede that the strategy of lobbying MNHQ for a separate 'sex and gender' discussion board, then patrolling Mumsnet to ensure that all threads on the topic are moved to this board and then complaining about the number of threads about the topic on here was actually quite clever.

TVkilledtheRadioStar · 24/03/2022 11:55

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone say “trans women are yucky”. I feel so sad that you are transphobic enough to read those posts like that. I would be surprised if any of those men have ever been on mumsnet or managed to navigate to the feminism boards.

Well quite.

Sophoclesthefox · 24/03/2022 11:57

Not just that, my posts on feminist topics unrelated to gender ideology get moved to the naice board. Then we get accused of only talking about the one topic. On the board that we were forced onto because people didn't want to hear about that topic.

Notably all the posters who asked for a special, nice 'feminist chat' board free of nasty loud women seem to have vanished like dew on the grass. Who could have anticipated it?

absolutely this, domesticatedzombie

they are mostly "trans women are yucky" themed

this is nonsense, though. I don’t see you flying the flag for feminism, catherina as your interests lie mainly in scolding other women for not meeting your standards, while sometimes accidentally being transphobic yourself 😬

Mums et has always got a certain kind of man all in a lather at the unsupervised women fomenting rebellion. no change there!

Calennig · 24/03/2022 11:59

@ReeseWitherfork

It really irks me that there are tweets criticising Mumsnet users based on the feminism boards being predominantly about trans issues. Apparently us feminists don't talk about much else. It irks me because there are plenty of feminism-related threads in other boards but they don't get moved. MNHQ has a habit of moving any trans issues to the feminism boards so it becomes skewed. Feminism on Mumsnet isn't restricted to trans issues, it's just that the boards aren't used in the way these Twitter users think. Plenty of feminism related topics all over the site.
Honestly wonder if this was behind the pressure to hive it off - the resulting gotcha pics.

I know many users like me asked them not to do this.

It is worrying that so many people out in teh big wide world do seem to think once you become a mother eveything else goes and its' all nappies and pushchairs and nothing else is supposed to be discussed.

Oh so we don't talk about them enough to prove that we talk about them, right.

When you say 'trans women are yucky' you mean 'trans women are men'? I don't think anyone has ever said 'all trans women are yucky' have they? That's just your interpretation.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/03/2022 12:05

It sounds a bit of a childish interpretation, frankly.

Oh dear, women not talking the way you want them to?

I'm afraid women can say what the fuck they like, about what the fuck they like. Whether that's trans issues, women's issues, stuff that doesn't apply to them, or stuff that does.

Funnily enough, we can talk about anything we want.

And with the advent of social media, millions of us are doing it. Great innit?

It does really stick to the craw of some people. And we can talk about that too. And we can be rude, insulting, and sarcastic.

A lot of it's bloody funny too.

Yay us.

What's Confused about it?

The state of what, a female dominated forum, many mothers, not taking seriously (or refusing to be patronised by) two politicians coming here to tell us all about women/mums in politics when they pretend they don't even know what a woman is to keep males happy?

334bu · 24/03/2022 12:12

* if you just look over the topics now, they are mostly "trans women are yucky" themed*

I think you mean that the topics all centre women and their need ,in certain situations ,for safety, dignity and privacy from members of the opposite sex. No person here thinks that male people who identify as women are any yuckier or not than any other human male.

sashagabadon · 24/03/2022 12:15

My opinion is that the U.K. is simply a few years forward on this debate than most other nations. Literally leading the world on it. And that is because of Mumsnet imo.
We get told we are behind in the general debate when actually we are ahead!

Artichokeleaves · 24/03/2022 12:18

"yucky".....

can we at least try and use our grown up words?

I see your alternative facts. I can't engage with them since there's no objective shared meaning we can work from.

OldCrone · 24/03/2022 12:18

Were you looking for the feminism chat board Catherina? It's here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/feminism

I notice you haven't posted on there at all, and all your recent posts are in the Sex and Gender topic which was created to talk about these issues and keep it segregated from other feminist topics. Many of us thought this separation was a bad idea.

What you're doing is a bit like a cat lover failing to find the litter tray and complaining that the doghouse is full of people talking about dogs rather than cats.

Why don't you pop over to the other feminism board and start some discussions about the feminist issues you're interested in? If you're not concerned about the erosion of women's rights and the dangers to children posed by the reality denial of genderism you don't have to post here.

How very dare a woman, and a "MUM' have an opinion? Won't she think of her children.

Indeed, I remember many many women pointing out that this would happen & it being ignored
