@Imnobody4

Here's a transcript from Mirror journalist. I can't believe he can be so stupid.
Well there you have it. The man’s a fool. What a contrast with “Women have vaginas, Nick” from Liz Truss. There’s likely to be a General Election sooner than the fixed term parliament act would have mandated. The Tories don’t just have an open goal; the opposition have left the field altogether.
WouldBeGood · 26/09/2021 11:11

@Blackandwhitehorse it was Jonathan Haidt, it is interesting.

Blackandwhitehorse · 26/09/2021 11:12

Ah brilliant- thank you, will give that a listen!

Cailleach1 · 26/09/2021 11:12

@BettyFilous

I spoiled my ballot in May for the first time ever, couldn’t not vote. Looks like I’ll be doing the same at the next GE. Sigh.
But you didn't vote. Spoiling means you didn't vote. What you need to do is cast your vote elsewhere and against these women haters. One vote for someone else means one vote against these f*ckers.
Jaysmith71 · 26/09/2021 11:17

Spoiled ballots are votes. They are counted and called at the final count.

In the event of a recount, the spoiled papers may be scrutinised by the party agents to see if any of them can be added to the candidate's tally, such as a tick instead of a cross or a cross that extends outside the box, a crossed-out cross then another cross, etc.

Reading the comments left on some spoiled papers can be enlightening for agents.
@Judashascomeintosomemoney Rosie Duffield won Canterbury in 2017 with a majority of 187, and increased it in 2019 to over 1,800
….should have added to previous reply…
And the people who live here, who are prepared to defend her, are not the people who vote Labour 🤷‍♀️

BettyFilous · 26/09/2021 11:20

There were no other ‘good’ options locally. I won’t be lectured on spoiling my ballot (decisively, unambiguously marked up I hasten to add). I was showing the parties that mine is a vote for the taking because, unlike large swathes of the electorate, I turn out to vote. Whether I can bring myself to vote Tory is another matter. I’m watching the Greens’ leadership election with interest.

Thelnebriati · 26/09/2021 11:21

I'm an ex lifelong Labour supporter. At the last election I spoiled my ballot and will continue to do so, I'll never vote Labour again.

They can't realistically expect my vote, I'm only a woman and don't exist.

CatChant · 26/09/2021 11:22

Well that hope was short-lived.

I doubt KS believes a word of the twaddle he's spouting. He wants to placate the TRAs and the hard of thinking who've fallen for the "Be Kind" mantras.

What he hasn't learned is no concession, no accommodation will ever be enough other than outright surrender to every single demand, no matter how outrageous.

Thanks, but no thanks, Labour. I'll stay out in the cold with the other thought criminals.

OldCrone · 26/09/2021 11:22

@Signalbox

Bloke tells women what they should and shouldn't say.
Only some women.

Rosie Duffield states a biological fact. Keir says "It shouldn't be said. It's not right."

Angela Rayner calls people 'scum'. Keir says "We take different approaches. It's not language I would use." Whether she apologises is "a matter for Angela."

Or perhaps it's only facts that should not be mentioned. Opinions are OK.

CharlieParley · 26/09/2021 11:23

So, he's off the fence at last, and stuck the knife into Rosie Duffield at the same time. Because saying that women have a cervix is her crime and KS says that should never be said.

Of course, this one is so easy to refute as well, since we actually have research showing half of all women do not know what a cervix is, and will not understand that they should be checked for cervical cancer if the word women is not used.

("Women and ..." is confusing in this context, because it makes it sound that what you're talking about is not a women's health issue, so the message is lost.)

LittlePearl · 26/09/2021 11:26

@SusannaM

You'll never agree with any leader on everything. Democracy is hold your nose and vote or stay at home and don't bother.

The problem is some issues are a line in the sand and are beyond holding your nose over. I can compromise with the best of them, but women's rights are too important to me.

This, absolutely.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/09/2021 11:28

Well then, Keir, why don't you bring disciplinary proceedings against Rosie Duffield for her awful transphobia, as all the nasty little misogynists in your party are calling for you to do? Seems logical, no?

merrymouse · 26/09/2021 11:29

....and 'Only women have a cervix' is, "Something that should not be said."

By anyone? Cervical smears for all then?

OvaHere · 26/09/2021 11:31

Yes. I know. I live there. And 2019 was before her original tweet ‘crime’. She won’t win again in Canterbury if they need the youth vote from the campus to achieve it (they do).

Maybe she'll get the pissed off women vote? Voting for Rosie, if I lived in Canterbury, would probably be the only circumstance I'd consider voting Labour in a future election.

Jaysmith71 · 26/09/2021 11:32

Loretta/Stan will be off to the Gynae:

"I want a smear, and I want it NOW!"
"But you don't have a cervix...."
"Don't you oppress me!"

OP posts:
Cailleach1 · 26/09/2021 11:32

You're right. People can do anything they want with their vote, even if it renders it pointless. In return, I wish people would stop gaslighting others that a spoiled vote (outside of a tick with could be interpreted as a vote, which means it was not properly spoiled really) does anything other than give rise to a bit of useless chat.

Those with the most (unspoiled and valid) voted will be the ones gain power to push through any agenda they want. Or, even allow parties like the LD's to push through any agenda they can negotiate in return for being a coalition party.

It isn't the principle that counts (as the LD decided on tuition fees).

merrymouse · 26/09/2021 11:33

I doubt KS believes a word of the twaddle he's spouting. He wants to placate the TRAs and the hard of thinking who've fallen for the "Be Kind" mantras.

I think he is concerned about losing votes to the Greens, Lib Dem’s and SNP.

Not clear whether he realises the Conservatives have a majority.

OldCrone · 26/09/2021 11:33

Starmer was asked: Is it transphobic to say that only women have a cervix?

He said: "It shouldn't be said. It's not right."

Then a bit later "This debate needs to be conducted in a proper way in which proper views are expressed in a way that is respectful."

How can we have a proper respectful debate if some facts are unmentionable?

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 26/09/2021 11:35

Honestly, why is Starmer trying to cling onto this issue? He must be able to see by now that it is a total vote loser!!!

TheWeeDonkey · 26/09/2021 11:41

@Theeyeballsinthesky

He’s a mealy mouthed hypocrite. He’s knows exactly what a woman is

Why is every political party in this country such a binfire?

And yes I’m sick to death of “the most marginalised evah” line. Ppl are sleeping on the streets, there are ppl with learning difficulties in care homes who haven’t seen their families in months, there are single parents living on benefits in mould infested shit holes. No one’s lighting up buildings for them are they? Or getting a list celebrities tweeting about how much help they need meanwhile every magic circle law firm & finance institution in the country along with the NHS, the media & local government are fully on board with TWAW

most marginalised ever my fat wobbly arse!!

This with bells on.

Why are the Labour party so determined to present themselves as completely out of touch with their electorate? Do they forget that it's them who serve the people not the other way round?

merrymouse · 26/09/2021 11:42

Yes. I know. I live there. And 2019 was before her original tweet ‘crime’. She won’t win again in Canterbury if they need the youth vote from the campus to achieve it (they do).

But if it’s that marginal the implication is that they only need a small swing to the Tories to lose the seat, whoever is standing.

The youth vote could lose the seat for Labour by voting e.g. green, but they don’t make the seat safe.

WouldBeGood · 26/09/2021 11:44

@Theeyeballsinthesky very well put.

SpindleWorld · 26/09/2021 11:45

She won’t win again in Canterbury if they need the youth vote from the campus to achieve it (they do).

Who will the students vote for though, @Judashascomeintosomemoney? Or will Rosie Duffield be deselected by then and they'll get a shiny new non-heretical, biologically illiterate Labour candidate?

Newnewnew1179 · 26/09/2021 11:46

I just despair at this. I just do not understand how we are now at a point where the Leader of the Opposition says it’s not right to say only women have a cervix. I find the mangling of language utterly bizarre and the hypocrisy that means this is all so one way (anyone seen a prostate cancer awareness ad recently?).
