Starmer has to be seen in context (Starmer himself, as a person, has no convictions on this issue, possibly on any issue really, but thats another story)
Starmer totally knows this is cray town nonsesens that is toxic to the electorate, but he does not care.
Starmers only got one job, and that job has nothing to do with putting forward convincing Laour Party policies or even winning elections.
Starmer was shoved in on a blag to stop any actual left candidate becoming the leader of a political party that could credibly win an election in the UK. Starmers only job is to do everything he can to a) make sure he sticks in his position to keep out a leftwing candiate and b) if possible change some rules so the LP are never again in the position where a real left movement can take controle.

Everyone can make of that what they want, in terms of how much they respect Starmer.

Jaysmith71 · 26/09/2021 10:03

How can we have the debate if we are not allowed to say the words?

OP posts:
Datun · 26/09/2021 10:04

Lots of people may not understand the debate especially in terms of women's rights, or may not even be interested.

But they will think that not being allowed to say that only women have a cervix is complete idiocy. Woke at its stupid wokest.

Not a good look, especially when Liz Truss said the absolute opposite.

And the arrogance of it. Women are not allowed to say that only women have a cervix, but there must be respectful debate. Respectful? When he's just demanded that we're not allowed to say sex is based on biology?

Fuck off with this delusional shit.

Datun · 26/09/2021 10:05

@Jaysmith71

How can we have the debate if we are not allowed to say the words?
Exactly. I sincerely hope that journalists and interviewers can refine their questions to just get there quicker.
OvaHere · 26/09/2021 10:05

@Fallagain

Labour has always traditionally done well with younger voter. Younger women, on the whole are more likely to be TRA. Like all political parties running up to an election they are only interested in votes. Labour is a lost cause on this issue.

Out of interest does anyone know if reclaim the streets have an official line on the trans debate?

Yes they are TWAW.
Theunamedcat · 26/09/2021 10:06

A debate where you cannot discuss is no debate at all

Fallagain · 26/09/2021 10:07

Thanks @OvaHere I’m not surprised but I’m disappointed.

Jaysmith71 · 26/09/2021 10:07

We are in full-on Blasphemy territory here.

Not only can not not argue there is no god. You cannot even say it.

This. I don't think he's believes what he is saying for a single second, but Labour's only hope is the vote of young people. He's trying to appeal to them. Whilst throwing women under the bus. Clearly we are expendable collateral damage and that'll be yet another spoiled ballot from me.

Melroses · 26/09/2021 10:08

Only women have a cervix' is, "Something that should not be said."

That's throwing Rosie Duffield to the wolves then. Hmm

OvaHere · 26/09/2021 10:09

and 'Only women have a cervix' is, "Something that should not be said."

Well that's a pity Keir because I suspect it's a phrase that's going to be said more than ever now you, a penis haver man, have said we can't say it.

"Only women have a cervix" - coming soon on all good feminist merchandise. Grin

BaronessWrongCrowd · 26/09/2021 10:09

Can someone please explain to me how the ‘Trans community are the most marginalised community of all.’

From where I stand this ‘community’ has the ear of and funding from governments, political parties, major institutions, schools, big businesses, charities, the police, healthcare, big tech - social media. Laws are in the process and have been changed, mainly at the detriment of other groups. That doesn’t exactly sound marginalised to me.

I don’t believe for one second that the majority of transpeople agree with what is being demanded/done in their name. Why doesn’t Starmer listen to them? Why do the Labour Party not listen and just repeat false narratives?

Anyway. I will not vote for Labour ever again.
I’m hoping that Shahar Ali wins the leadership election for the Greens because at least I will be able to cast a vote and not spoil it like last time.

Fitt · 26/09/2021 10:10

Labour can have their rules for things persons can say, it just makes them completely irrelevant though.

Jaysmith71 · 26/09/2021 10:10

OK, he's a lawyer. His job is to state his client's case, and to do so as if it were true.

The most charitable explanation is that he doesn't believe this shit but feels obliged to advocate it.

WhoNeeds. My two best line managers were from the North. Called a spade a spade. Never rude and certainly didn’t see the need to call people scum and sorry - wear her ‘single mother at 16’ as a badge of honour.

AnyOldPrion · 26/09/2021 10:10

Just seen a clip on Twitter.

Not only did he say Rosie Duffield shouldn’t have said what she said, but also said (with no proof or offers of changes that would protect her) she’s perfectly safe at the Labour Party Conference.

Presumably he’s saying that in the safe knowledge that she won’t go, so it will never be put to the test. Disgustingly arrogant to publically dismiss a woman’s genuine concerns over her safety in the face of intense bullying and threats.

SusannaM · 26/09/2021 10:11

But from that point of view women then can't be referred to as "cervix-havers"?

Fitt · 26/09/2021 10:11

@Melroses

Only women have a cervix' is, "Something that should not be said."

That's throwing Rosie Duffield to the wolves then. Hmm

Exactly, he's just massively ramped up the abuse, he's given his approval to it.

He seems completely clueless.

Mollyollydolly · 26/09/2021 10:12

just waiting for him to post on twitter so a thousand women can post 'only women have a cervix' in the replies. Feck 'em.

Whatthechicken · 26/09/2021 10:13

I am really bloody angry, my five year old daughter was sat with me when those words came out of his mouth. How fucking dare he. Never speak about biological reality, people’s feelings are far more important. Safeguarding being dismantled piece by piece. It’s not hateful to speak about biological reality, it’s crucial that we are able to.

Beamur · 26/09/2021 10:14

He really is disappointing on this issue but unsurprisingly so.
That's a shame.

ElizabethTudor · 26/09/2021 10:14

That’s me politically homeless then. What a fucking mess.
User135644 · 26/09/2021 10:15

@NorthernNic

That's the final straw. Despite my reservations I voted Labour at the last GE but not now. For future elections what are writing on soiled ballots? Only Women Have A Cervix??
Your vote is dependent on someone's opinion on Trans issues?

You'll never agree with any leader on everything. Democracy is hold your nose and vote or stay at home and don't bother.

TooWicked · 26/09/2021 10:16

I truly am politically homeless.

If Shahrar Ali isn’t voted in as leader of the Greens, my next ballot paper will be stickered until there’s no paper showing.

littlbrowndog · 26/09/2021 10:17

It’s not trans issues

It’s women’s rights
