I haven’t seen another thread on this today and I know she must be on here - thank you Rosie!

Rosie on Twitter today:

Hope that’s a clicky link.

Despite the hate you may be getting Rosie, there is a legion behind you!

There are some utter numpties in the replies, mind.

boatyardblues · 18/09/2021 18:13

The speaker of the House has spoken in support of Rosie Duffield. There’s a new article in the Times posted at 6pm. Anyone have a link?

boatyardblues · 18/09/2021 18:15

I meant share-token. This is the article www.thetimes.co.uk/article/speaker-steps-in-over-online-threats-to-female-labour-mp-jnhbrcgv5

This was horribly on-point:

mostly it is men and the same men that have trolled me ever since I got elected,” she said.

“So it looks like, feels like and smells like misogyny and this is just the latest cause they have latched on to…*

It's any cause to berate or threaten a woman that is sufficient exculpation, the material reality of the cause is immaterial because it just has to provide adequate political cover.

RedDogsBeg · 18/09/2021 18:24

About time somebody stepped up and spoke out about this, how embarrassing and spineless that the Leader of her Party is too cowardly to do so.

lanadelgrey · 18/09/2021 19:02

I will be writing to my Labour MP and to Rosie Duffield (again) in support.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 18/09/2021 19:06

Can anyone see comments on that article? I've updated it several times and every time I see [X] people typing but I've yet to see a single comment actually published.

midgemagneto · 18/09/2021 19:14

Blimy that is horrific reading

I can only see one comment which appears to say 'surreal' but is covered by a box which says '3 people typing...'

There are certain articles which The Times moderate heavily.

I , along with a couple of other people, commented that at the end of this article we were none the wiser what it was about. All deleted.

Rhannion · 18/09/2021 19:34

Still says people typing

MrsOvertonsWindow · 18/09/2021 19:35

All the comments are being held at the moment. I suspect they're in a bit of a dilemma - having suddenly hidden the many hundreds of comments under Janice Turner's article, they're faced with the same issues about free speech being raised again. The Times have outsourced the moderation of their articles to a USA company who don't have the same values as the paper about free speech so they end up looking like idiots with some of their inconsistent decisions.

ArabellaScott · 18/09/2021 19:35

“For the first time in my life, having been an ambassador for a gender-balanced 50:50 parliament, I would hesitate to encourage other women to come into politics,” she said. “I would have to really think about what I was asking them to do, and putting people into this position when they are going to be on the front line of some pretty shitty abuse ... it wears you down. I’m not going to pretend it doesn’t.”

Fucking hell, that's appalling.

Rhannion · 18/09/2021 19:39

I think this article is getting a lot of comments, more sunlight, the better and shame on all those in her party and other parties who don’t stand up for her.

Waitwhat23 · 18/09/2021 19:49

'It is understood the Speakers at the conference will sign a pledge to try to ensure the safety of elected politicians and crack down on social media platforms to prevent trolling.'

Here's a politican who is experiencing this trolling and her safety is compromised, to the extent she cannot attend this event. The people attending will be signing a pledge to 'crack down' on trolling etc but the Labour Party as a whole haven't made a statement to condemn the trolling against Duffield? It's only been individual party members?v Have I got that right?

I

Waitwhat23 · 18/09/2021 19:52

I've managed to see one comment and it's rather cheering -

'Patrick Jolly
16M AGO

Owen Jones is a craven disgrace!

And Rosie Duffield is perfectly entitled to speak her views in an open society.

Shame on the white male misogynists.
(Edited)'

Jackiebrambles · 18/09/2021 20:01

My comment is being moderated and awaiting approval!

Lettera · 18/09/2021 20:01

Keir Starmer's failure to support Rosie Duffield is absolutely shameful. Disgusting that it has fallen to the Speaker to raise concerns.

Jackiebrambles · 18/09/2021 20:02

Wow I didn’t realise they’d actually turned off the comments on Janice’s piece! Wtf

PronounssheRa · 18/09/2021 20:16

It's disgraceful isn't it, a woman doesn't feel safe at work, her boss and colleagues stay silent.

It reflects so badly on Labour

MrsOvertonsWindow · 18/09/2021 20:18

The moderating company will be in a meeting fretting about how to allow views to be posted on that article that might support Rosie and not bend the knee sufficiently deeply to the trans taliban (I think that's what the magnificent Julie Bindel calls them)

RedDogsBeg · 18/09/2021 20:19

This is a different event it is a special conference in Chorley for Heads of Parliament from the G7 Nations not the Labour Party Conference and the Speakers at this conference are the ones that will sign the pledge.

The Labour Party leader is a shameful disgrace.
