I haven’t seen another thread on this today and I know she must be on here - thank you Rosie!

Rosie on Twitter today:

twitter.com/rosieduffield1/status/1436276236049862661?s=21

Hope that’s a clicky link.

Despite the hate you may be getting Rosie, there is a legion behind you!

Even ridiculous opinions if put in a non offensive way should be listened to and countered, people are really good at that on here and it’s much more effective than banning someone.
Debate is good, the majority of the TRAs tactics are based on shutting down debate because their arguments don’t stand up to logic so we must continue to show how tenuous their point of view is

There is no research to show that this works (see the links at the start of the Bunbury threads) - the research that exists shows that community disruption is effective and it mostly puts off bystanders from reading at all. If anything, it leads to both sides-ism.

It's also a disproportionate amount of effort.

Unless there's a mass of people willing to state that their minds have been changed, it's heat and light and has contributed to this board being endlessly sequestered in such a way that there are very few successful attempts to address these issues on the high-traffic forums here.

My sole caveat is that MN FWR is not, strictly, a community ( reasons ).

Name Changer

@Beefcurtains79

I see. I didn’t mean she should be banned for her badly thought out opinions, just her constant, deliberate derailing.

If we ban people we dont agree with then what does that make us?

@IvyTwines2

I've just heard a clip of the interview on the Radio 5 news too - so glad this issue is finally being discussed on the BBC. Now can we please have more coverage of how it is affecting so many teenagers right now? Newsnight has been great on the Tavistock, but it's tucked away after many people's bedtime.

Yet, some parents must hear it. Why aren't they talking about it? It's so common - it affects several family friends for me and their families are in turmoil (particularly when one parent is adopting the 'full stream ahead' approach and the other would prefer a 'watchful waiting').

They're not talking about it because it's social death and ostracism from other parents and even concerns about conflicts with the school and Social Services. Get in with the wrong group, and somebody would probably send letters to your professional body or even employers to detail your wrongthink.

I have taken the decision not to talk about it. My friends wouldn't listen to me and I'd rather still be available to them if matters go awry. For one set of family friends, with conflicting parents as above, it is resolving now that the child in question deteriorated in mental health during lockdown and has now received some assistance with that. It seems as if that child has now desisted.

However, those parents aren't talking about the very real conflicts they had (it broke their relationship a couple of times) and the impact on the health of each member of the family. afaik, they're not talking about what has happened now that that child has elected to desist (and I'm pleased the child has the necessary MH support).

We're not talking to each other for fear of the real world consequences.

Yes I misread it, the comments were about the Times piece, doh!

Wouldn't you love to see the comments if the Guardian actually had the balls to open it up to the world beyond blue-haired twitter...

I'm pleased the headline on that article changed, extremists is exactly what the people abusing Rosie Duffield and any woman who disagrees with them are, they should be treated the same as terrorists.

The comments on that article are many, there were over 900 when I last looked and the overwhelming majority of them are furious that this is happening.

Jo March is being her usual brilliant self.

Enough. It's time to sort out these TRAs, find them, charge them and get them in front of the Courts of the Judiciary and the Public, let's see how brave they are when they cannot hide behind their anonymity.

Any of those abusing Rosie and are found to hold membership of the Labour Party should have their membership rescinded immediately and be barred from ever joining again.

Maybe @TheCountessofFitzdotterel , I'm sure you're right, but how he said it sounded so apologetic for asking the question that it really bugged me!

Just watched Sadiq Khan on Andrew Marr - AM asked if people who believe 'only women have a cervix' are welcome at the Labour Party conference. SK said yes, everyone is welcome but debate just be respectful!

AM then said 'I'm not taking sides' - fucking coward.

Do you mean SK said he wouldn’t be taking sides?
AM shouldn’t be taking sides, his job as a political interviewer is to let both sides have their say and press them where necessary.

Comments are fantastic. People are fucking furious, I can't believe that Labour are ignoring the vast majority of the populace and electorate to appease some extremist factions.

Hell of a lot of comments on the Times article criticising her use of the phrase 'white straight men' and missing the point entirely 🙄. Some great comments though, including some recommendations for 'Trans'.

I can definitely see the current push by TRA's to cover their backs against the rapidly coming backlash - a few comments of 'most sides must be respected and considered' with no other substance and comment. I've started to see it filter through some online things - it's the pre-emptive rewriting of history so that all the 'die in a grease fire' stuff can be brushed under the carpet.
