This is from the new LGBTQ+ Action Plan for Wales: easy read version

Transgender people are people who are born as one sex but are the other sex. For example, a person who looks like a man on the outside may be a woman on the inside

This is one of the documents for the current consultation about the new LGBTQ+ Action Plan.

I decided to look at the easy read version and the young people's version since the standard version didn't seem to have any kind of glossary about the terms used. The easy read version does, but some of the definitions, like this one, don't make sense. The young people's version, like the standard version, has no glossary.

In a consultation about LGBTQ+ people, the Welsh Government appears to be unable to define clearly what terms like 'transgender', 'gender identity' and 'non-binary' actually mean.

I identify as somebody who needs to stay in bed drinking coffee and being fed tasty morsels.

If you don't facilitate that you're PHOBIC

plodalong12 · 16/08/2021 16:36

I assume that the people behind this think the Welsh are actually English but who were born in Wales?

TheWeeDonkey · 16/08/2021 16:55

I don't know a out that Squeaky I think that crumbs in the bed is literal violence.

PickAChew · 16/08/2021 17:00

So the Welsh universities have discovered how to do something that no others have managed?

Sod it. I might identify as a cat, tomorrow. I'll sit on the windowsill, swiping at flies, occasionally baring my bumhole to passers by.

allmywhat · 16/08/2021 17:02

Dafuq. That’s the easy-read version? It could easily be interpreted to mean “a person who looks like a man might have female internal organs.”

Which is true, since lots of FtMs pass very well, but from context it’s the opposite of what they mean. They are intending to say that the sex a trans person is “on the inside” is the sex that doesn’t match their internal organs.

midgemagneto · 16/08/2021 17:26

So they look like a msn on the outside but have a womb etc on the inside ?

GrimDamnFanjo · 16/08/2021 17:29

@TheWeeDonkey

A Welsh person is anyone who identifies as a Welsh person Jaysmith71 💫👍
Snarf!

Where did you get 'universities' from, out of curiosity?
Jaysmith71 · 16/08/2021 17:30

Surely a gap in the market for sticks of transgender rock: Blue on the outside but pink on the inside.

Jorrris · 16/08/2021 17:32

Only if they were born female. It's not possible to change sex and there's no such thing as a womanly soul / trapped in the wrong body narrative. Utter bull crap.

EarthSight · 16/08/2021 18:01

@Jaysmith71

So I asked Google Translate to say what 'gender' was in Welsh, and it came back as 'rhyw.'

So I asked Google Translate what 'rhyw' was in English and it came back as 'Sex.'

@Jaysmith71

sex - rhyw
gender - rhywedd
dosbarth - class

Although most people will only have heard about 'rhyw' to be honest. Up until the last decade 'rhywedd' was just not in people's consciousness very much. More like biology.

Feel so disappointed reading that. Green light for gas lighting imo.

Jaysmith71 · 16/08/2021 18:04

@EarthSight

So the Internet is not reliable??????

I'm shocked.

PickAChew · 16/08/2021 18:08

Where else would there be the expertise to turn Y chromosomes into X chromosomes, @orangejuicer?

orangejuicer · 16/08/2021 18:14

@PickAChew

Where else would there be the expertise to turn Y chromosomes into X chromosomes, *@orangejuicer*?
And develop vaccines.

I'm not sure what your point is tbh.

PickAChew · 16/08/2021 18:35

My point is in the OP, @orangejuicer. The assertion that humans can change sex.

"Transgender people are people who are born as one sex but are the other sex."

NewlyGranny · 16/08/2021 19:23

I am concerned for children reading this, especially little boys who want to turn into girls and may believe they will be able to give birth.

Yeah....and I'm wondering what the fallout will be when they realize they can't :/ @NewlyGranny

I've had deep concerns for some time about the bias embedded in Easy Read versions on a number of topics. It has to be said that ones the cross the issue of gender ideology are the worst that I've seen for this.

How can a man be a woman on the inside?
Does he have a uterus or a female liver?

OldCrone · 16/08/2021 22:14

It's embarrassing to see this sort of rubbish being produced by a government.

The Welsh Government made this statement last year:

gov.wales/written-statement-statement-support-wales-trans-communities

We believe trans women are women, trans men are men and non-binary identities are valid.

Having said that TWAW and TMAM, they can no longer give any sort of coherent definition of what 'transgender' means.

This is from the equivalent document for the 2015 consultation for the earlier transgender action plan:

Transgender people: People who are born as one sex and want to live as the other sex. For example a person who looks like a man may feel inside like a woman.

Found in the depths of their archives:
<a class="break-all" href="https://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ukgwa/20160426123028/gov.wales/docs/dsjlg/consultation/150622-transgender-easy-read-consultation-en.pdf" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ukgwa/20160426123028/gov.wales/docs/dsjlg/consultation/150622-transgender-easy-read-consultation-en.pdf

While I'd take issue with the ideas that a man can 'feel inside like a woman' or that it's possible to 'live as' the opposite sex, this definition isn't at quite the level of insanity of the one in the current consultation. But you can't say that a person is simply 'living as' the opposite sex if you have declared that you believe they have actually changed sex.

EnfysPreseli · 16/08/2021 22:14

The young people's version of the consultation document is also pretty bad, although it includes a helpful pictorial guide to what the letters LGBTQ+ mean. The B stands for briefcase and brown cardigan and the + is for cyclists.

Strangely the T person is an obviously female enby, but the only female figure with breasts. These easy read and young people's versions seem more like tools to indoctrinate, not resources to inform and consult.

Why are adults in authority allowed to lie to children?

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 16/08/2021 22:29

This confirming my belief that Welsh Government is full of thickos.
