I can't believe The Economist published this crap, but here you go:

And the very first sentence is a lie by omission!

It doesn't get any more honest after that!

MajesticWhine · 27/07/2021 21:06

Thank you for this - but the archive version does not load for me. Is there a way around the paywall?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 27/07/2021 21:07

I assume they publish this claptrap to help people on their way to the top….

Runningupthecurtains · 27/07/2021 21:08

@ScreamingMeMe Do you have an archive copy of the counter piece by Chelsea Mitchell?

Thelnebriati · 27/07/2021 21:09

A reminder that McKinnon's dissertation was;

Reasonable Assertions: On Norms of Assertion and Why You Don’t Need to Know What You’re Talking About
by Rachel McKinnon

It says "transgender women are women in the ways that matter." But doesn't specify what those ways are.

KohlaParasanda · 27/07/2021 21:17

I see Dr Ivy is doing her bit to try to keep Stephanie Barrett's transgender status under wraps, which seems to be something of a theme. I can't believe she was omitted from the list of trangender athletes by accident.

The media will publish what it thinks will generate clicks. Rationality is boring.

LividLaVidaLoca · 27/07/2021 21:18

@Runningupthecurtains it loads from the link in the archive for me?

Eyesofdisarray · 27/07/2021 21:19

Not them again- anyone know why the name change? If we are not allowed to ask, please delete
Thanks

Trans women are women in the ways that matter???

I've not heard that definition amongst before amidst all the shape shifting delusions we get told women are Confused Tries it out:

Women are women in the ways that matter?

Spaghetti is spaghetti in the ways that matter?

Ribbons are ribbons in the ways that matter?

Pregnant women are women in the ways that matter?

I can see the potential... Grin

TurquoiseBaubles · 27/07/2021 21:22

x-post, sorry screamingmeme.

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/07/2021 21:23

Ah, the Cyclepath. Peaking more and more people with every utterance.

TurquoiseBaubles · 27/07/2021 21:24

I'm not always a fan of the Antipodean farmers RedDogs, but they have many suggestions Grin

KohlaParasanda · 27/07/2021 21:26

@ScreamingMeMe, @TurquoiseBaubles, many thanks for those archive links. They worked for me and I have used them wisely.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/07/2021 21:32

I see Ivy should be back in Canada now, having resigned from the College of Charleston, which gave Ivy tenure but was nevertheless a toxic environment. Hmm

I wonder how the bills are getting paid.

Runningupthecurtains · 27/07/2021 21:34

Thanks Screaming and Turquoise

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/07/2021 21:35

Iny's Wikipedia entry has not been updated to reflect that @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

Pallisers · 27/07/2021 21:40

Trans women are women in the ways that matter???

I wonder if this construct allows the speaker to define what ways matter to be a woman - so women might not be women in the ways that matter.

The idea that "trans women are women in the ways that matter": it is laughable to list those ways as birth certificate, driver’s licence, passport, and medical records. When it comes to the body - which are the real 'ways that matter', 'she' will not be going to the gynaecology ward.

I'm also struggling with the expectation of 300 trans competitors at the Olympics because 0.6% of the US population identifies as trans: around 0.0007% of the global population are Olympians, plus transmen are not going to be competitive.
