Starmer and the Labour Party Really Cannot Read the Room

Labour and Self-id

twitter.com/PinkNews/status/1402586773499244549

Rosie Duffield gets the predictable kicking in the comments. Still no public support for her. That's what the Labour leadership think about women's rights and women who have an opinion.

Why any women would vote Labour I really do not know.

@PandorasMailbox

Starmer looked like he was giving a review of a primary school play while suffering the after-effects of flu medicine.

He's chanting the accepted mantra and praying for death.

Why do Momentum types always call him Keith? Do they believe this devastating satire will knock him off his perch? I hope they soon Do Better, because it’s really unfunny.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/06/2021 17:53

Is that A Thing? I hadn't realised.

Whatthechicken · 13/06/2021 19:11

Thought this was apt. Although I appreciate all of the women staying on and fighting...you do have my respect.

Today, Owen Jones is panicking about Labour losing the British Muslim vote.

twitter.com/OwenJones84/status/1404507099187617798?s=19

Owen says:

Having spent today in Batley, there's no question that Muslim voters there who've voted Labour all their lives are abandoning the party in large numbers.

There's over 3 million UK Muslims and 86% voted Labour in 2019. The party can't afford to lose them.

Hmm, can anyone think of some policies that Labour supports that discriminate against people with particular religious beliefs?

ArabellaScott · 14/06/2021 20:23

Hm, wow, can anyone think of anything? If only there was a hashtag or something, maybe something about LabourLosing a particular demographic that is actually quite a sizeable chunk of the population. That might be quite useful. For insight.

The purpose of the tweet is to undermine Starmer.

If the self ID announcement was supposed to shore up support from that wing of the party...

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 14/06/2021 20:45

Blimey, you're right. You have a fine political mind. I didn't pick up on that at all.

So, turns out Self-ID proposals don't get Owen and co back, and I doubt they get anyone else on board either!

FOJN · 14/06/2021 21:20

I'm not sure understand, do you think the tweet is part of a campaign to get rid of KS so he can be replaced by someone more left wing?

merrymouse · 14/06/2021 21:38

Yes - he is being compared unfavourably to Corbyn.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 14/06/2021 21:40

I note the Graun's scintillating political analysis does not touch on what Muslims might think of swimming sessions being separated by gender instead of sex. Not a dicky bird on that.

FOJN · 14/06/2021 23:26

It's quite a staggering conclusion to reach after the Hartlepool result. I think another Corbyn type leadership candidate will push Labour even further into the political wilderness, it will appeal to younger voters but the rest of the electorate want something more centrist.

SpindleWhorl · 14/06/2021 23:42

Keir Starmer is learning the hard way that you cannot ever appease the LOJ faction of Labour. Even after total capitulation he would be sent off to re-education pasture anyway, so he may as well stand and fight.

Fight for the Party.

Fight for female human rights.

Fight for the meaning and legacy of Equality Act 2010, brought in under the last Labour Government.

Bloody fight, man.

highame · 15/06/2021 08:02

LOJ is really sure of himself isn't he? He is absolutely sure that the 'wrong think' of the centre will be turned around. As soon as those pesky boomers bite the dust, the free world will have the delights of Queer theory and CRT and be glad of it. He doesn't accept there is a centre ground.

Tanith · 15/06/2021 08:12

Everything LOJ does is to the detriment of the Labour Party, whatever he says.

I wish he'd just go and join the Northern Independence party.

DdraigGoch · 15/06/2021 09:07

@EndoplasmicReticulum

I'd be interested to know, among the general public - what they understand a "transgender woman" to be. Are people assuming fully medically transitioned with surgery / hormones etc. Or transgender as in the Stonewall umbrella defintion which is much broader? Was this clear in the question?
Or indeed have people got it completely the wrong way around when answering and have assumed that "transgender woman" means "female who is transgender [and now identifies as a 'man']"?
teawamutu · 15/06/2021 09:46

I've seen people assuming all of those, Ddraig.

The one option they rarely choose is an entirely physically unaltered, male-bodied person in stereotypically feminine clothing. That one tends to startle most people.

IvyTwines2 · 15/06/2021 10:05

Most people I know think it refers to someone born male who would in youth have been considered gay and has then had what used to be called sex-change surgery. They don't believe me when I explain the category includes fully male bodied heterosexuals, even when they're married with children. They just assume those men who come out as cross-dressers later in life were in-the-closet gay men and their marriage was somehow societally forced on them. The notion of a heterosexual male as 'trans', wearing make up and dresses, still does not compute with them.

He also doesn't accept that these young, blue-haired, CRT/TWAW enthusiasts will get older, accumulate mortgages and children, and potentially change their views a bit.

My 18yo self would probably have loved Corbyn, longed for a pure socialist govt and trusted OJ.

Several decades on... Would still love to vote Labour but I'm very definitely more centrist.

Excellent article from Rob Marchant in Labour Uncut

very interesting point made in the comments on that article:

An excellent article.. However, I tried to link to it on Facebook and I got the following message:

Funny you say that. I'm younger than OJ, have been known to dye my hair blue, used to think TWAW and... I have already grown out of it.

I now care far more about safeguarding the vulnerable than I do about "being sexist against men" which I used to see as a huge concern with it.

Very good article for explaining to 'woke' offspring what they may have overlooked.
