Are you put off booking a holiday in Scotland by the Marion Miller case and the Scottish police carping about stickers?

I know that the chances of being harassed by the police on holiday are minimal but the whole atmosphere: law changes, the SNP attitude to women, the police tweeting about stickers etc - would you really want to holiday in such a pool of chilling effects? It is really changing how I feel about Scotland (in the sense of those currently running it - I'm not blaming the average Scot obviously) and I know if I went there it would be on my mind all the time. Chilling effects do not equal a holiday feeling is what I am saying I guess.

Fucket
I think it spectacularly unfair to say Scots hate the English, based on the Independence issue. It might have escaped your notice but Scotland voted against Independence. Of the 45% who voted to leave, some of them may have anti English views perhaps.

However, some people, e.g. you, have clearly have anti Scottish views, evidenced by your willingness to believe an entire nation hates its nearest neighbouring country because some of them think Independence is a viable political option..

ArabellaScott · 03/06/2021 19:13

Thanks, Screaming.

Honestly, today I was looking at the Marion Millar #Womenwontwheesht, saw the photo of a big fucking gun (presumably a replica) and the person saying they were 'making a list' and my first impulse was to call the police. I picked up the phone.

And put it right back down again. Because what would happen if I called the police, as a feminist, in Scotland, today?

SoMuchForSummerLove · 03/06/2021 19:14

Also, wanting independence has got fuck all to do with my feelings about English people Confused because, well, I don't really have any of any importance.

ArabellaScott · 03/06/2021 19:14

FWIW I'm half English, forget the 'hate the English' stuff, as many English people virulently hate the Scots, nobody has a monopoly on xenophobia.

yourhairiswinterfire · 03/06/2021 19:14

Unless one of your holiday activities is going to a uni campus and shouting ONLY WOMEN HAVE VAGINAS then you're safe.

Well that'd be a bit pointless. If people are old enough to be at Uni, they already know that women have vaginas. They don't need us to travel there to tell them.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 03/06/2021 19:15

Yeah it wasn't a serious suggestion...

It was me referring to the fact that universities are among the captured, mainstream society is not.

I live in Scotland and would say a good proportion of nationalists dislike the English. They are generally narrow minded and not very clever. Not all- I would imagine most MNetters aren’t like that

The way freedom of speech is going in Scotland is horrifying. Most people don’t realise and aren’t aware and live in a bubble.

My husband and I are making plans to leave once DC grow up. My family have lived here for generations but the dumbing down, anti-education, anti-women, anti-free speech and economic joke that is scotland under the SNP means we have no choice

SoMuchForSummerLove · 03/06/2021 19:18

Not my experience at all @Roonerspismed

The Indy supporters I know are middle class Remainer types who are politically engaged and like taking their kids to the odd polite Indy March.

Rosit · 03/06/2021 19:24

This is hilarious. Is this what you actually think? There’s no irony going on? Hyperbole?

Thank god you don’t want to come Scotland.

Posters on the thread? Think it's pretty obvious which ones.

@SoMuchForSummerLove

Don't be daft.

Do you think the streets are being policed by people looking out for terfs?!

Unless one of your holiday activities is going to a uni campus and shouting ONLY WOMEN HAVE VAGINAS then you're safe.

I have zero interest in going to a country where, if I did shout "only women have vaginas", it would be an arrestable offence.

I'm not sure why that's a shocking point of view.

You'd think. But no. See also: ladypenis.

It's not obvious to me which is why I asked!

Never mind then...

OhHolyJesus · 03/06/2021 19:35

I've signed a no flight pledge so intend to holiday in the U.K. for the foreseeable but Scotland wouldn't be on my list, despite me wanting to see how beautiful it is.

I'd be arrested for my t shirts alone I would imagine.

Weefatroaster · 03/06/2021 19:46

I'm Scottish. Moved down South 4 years ago and been pining for Glasgow ever since . I have close family up there and the plan was to move back when my daughter finished her exams . (She wants to go a Scottish uni). This makes me feel ill . Absolutely appalling . The police werent so quick on the mark when for years ,I had to walk by a huge spraypainted "T*igs Go Home " and a arrow to Stranraer(ferry) on a underpass everyday going to work. I'm sure it's still there .( Yes I'm ICatholic). How dare they treat Marion like this ? Nasty ,despicable bullies .I think I'll stay here and to the previous poster , I'm going up arpun the 20th July - I feel some hateful haberdashery going on.
