Are you put off booking a holiday in Scotland by the Marion Miller case and the Scottish police carping about stickers?

I know that the chances of being harassed by the police on holiday are minimal but the whole atmosphere: law changes, the SNP attitude to women, the police tweeting about stickers etc - would you really want to holiday in such a pool of chilling effects? It is really changing how I feel about Scotland (in the sense of those currently running it - I'm not blaming the average Scot obviously) and I know if I went there it would be on my mind all the time. Chilling effects do not equal a holiday feeling is what I am saying I guess.

"Margarita, the T word you've used and capitalised there is a slur, and not allowed on Mumsnet."*

I didn't actually "use it", just trying to clarify if that was indeed the word that was being referred to.

It does appear intentionally misgendering someone is allowed on Mumsnet. If one does that on Twitter it can be removed for breach of the rules.

littlbrowndog · 23/08/2021 09:26

He says he is male on his bio

It's not, actually.

If you're taking about the bar worker, they refer to themselves as male.

ArabellaScott · 23/08/2021 09:28

So, you've managed to be incredibly rude about Scottish people, women and Muslims so far, Margarita. Want to quit now, or are you going for the full 9 protected characteristics?

SageHoney · 23/08/2021 09:29

MargaritaPie: I don't know I'm not from Scotland.
And absolutely WILL NOT WILL NOT WILL NOT listen to anyone who is. That about sums up your contributions on this thread. (Also bore off with the "Eastern European" shite; we're not a monolith either.)

KittenKong · 23/08/2021 09:32

So I’m Scottish and have worked with allsorts of people from all works of life, including royalty - and I’m an effing delight to work with. I have managed not to swear at, abuse, threaten or headbut any colleagues or clients.

Am I ‘scottishing’ all wrong then?

ErsatzGreg · 23/08/2021 09:37

@MargaritaPie

Just read this on Twitter:

"It wasn't too long ago people were putting fliers through Eastern Europeans people's doors telling them to go home."

Is that acceptable? But they're just pieces of paper and those people are just campaigning? Right?

Are you comparing this to men being asked to stay out of womens spaces?

Margarita made me laugh out loud (not for the first time) with the Muslim-run bar comparison. Excellent business idea there, Margarita. You obviously have your feet firmly in the sky.

🥳🥳🥳

Helleofabore · 23/08/2021 09:44

If the group went to a bar run by Muslims

Did you put much thought into that?

yourhairiswinterfire · 23/08/2021 09:48

It does appear intentionally misgendering someone is allowed on Mumsnet. If one does that on Twitter it can be removed for breach of the rules.

He calls himself male on Twitter and every media report calls him 'he'. We're discussing it as it's reported.

And we're not on Twitter with their batshit definition of 'hateful conduct', so it doesn't matter what their rules are really.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 23/08/2021 09:50

Well, thanks to this thread, I've developed some insight into the chasm of incomprehension I meet when I try to explain the disproportionate impact that a lack of single-sex spaces will have on Muslim women and girls.

It explains a lot, to be honest

You haven’t called anyone a "cunt" yet today, littlbrowndog - you're slacking! Grin
littlbrowndog · 23/08/2021 09:59

True. Will save that for anyone I meet at work this afternoon 🤣

ScreamingMeMe · 23/08/2021 10:02

🤣

Enough4me · 23/08/2021 10:02

The manager is a 'he' on his Twitter account, but a TW in the pub...what loo does he use, what ward would he go into in hospital if ill?
can we ever common sense back?

Scots could definitely be classified as “Northern” so it probably fits in the the Northern Women theory of bluntness.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/08/2021 10:06

"Oh, and when you say Horse Bar, do you mean Salt Horse, The White Horse or the Laughing Horse?"

The one Ms Miller and chums went to. I don't know I'm not from Scotland.

I saw another person in passing claim that GC feminists had put leaflets in his pub and boasting that he made them leave or he would have got violent Confused I did not see him claim that it was specifically Marion herself, just random unidentified "TERFs" of which there are many in Scotland, so I'd be careful that you don't say she was personally doing things she wasn't as it could be seen as both personally defamatory and with potential to prejudice the live court case, which may lead to it being thrown out, which I'm sure some people wouldn't want.

In fact it looks like she's taking action against someone else for exactly this kind of thing.

No its not

And i think youve been here long enough to know that it isnt

KittenKong · 23/08/2021 10:09

I never use the C word. Well extremely rarely. I never use the c** word. Completely offensive.

RoyalCorgi · 23/08/2021 10:39

The bar person says on his bio he is a male

For some reason the Times report on this today refers to the bar manager as "she", which completely distorts what happened.

Enough4me · 23/08/2021 11:04

Bio says he, Times says she, other reports say TW, it's a yoyo, guess he/she/they decide what suits on the day.

I don’t know, I’m not from Scotland.

Appears perfectly happy to make sweeping generalisations about the Scots though. Probably watched Russ Abbott do his “See You Jimmy”routine and based all their preconceptions on that

KittenKong · 23/08/2021 11:33
