Jameela and Josie backing away

I’ve checked as much as I can and apparently Jameela Jamil and Josie Long (I’m not sure who she is but lots of followers) have deleted their tweets supporting Mermaids. Jameela also seems to have removed her unpleasant tweet(s) to JK Roeling (I don’t think I’ve missed them on the searches) An interesting development.

@SunsetBeetch

Do you know where Josie Long went to school? From what I can see, people who went to state school are just as likely to share these views.

Not sure about her schooling, but she went to Cambridge and is very middle class and twee.

It was Oxford. I was there at the same time and had mutual friends. She was pretty insipid but very cliquey with people she thought were cool.

I've noticed that certain Mermaid mums I follow have also been quite quiet recently and not mentioned them. I'm wondering if there's something bigger going on.
Certain legal investigations/court cases might require people to keep quiet so I'm wondering if its something like that. And yes, it's pure speculation on my part but it would explain a lot.

Wikipedia says she grew up in Orpington on the outskirts of London and went to Newstead Woods, which is one of the most selective grammar schools in the country. It's a state school but I'd be suprised if it takes many girls from lower-income families.

I looked Josie Long up as I had no idea who she was.

She went to Newstead Woods which is a super-selective girls grammar in SE London.

@Worldgonecrazy

In the most believable tweet ever Jameela is claiming to have deleted tweets Up to 2020 as she wants her account to be more focused.

So the reason for deleting tweets is to make it a more activism based account (although I’m sure when I looked yesterday there were still many older tweets on there, just specific tweets were missing), but her tweets in support of Mermaids etc and the ‘I’ve spoken to a real doctor about transgender people’ interview seemed to be very much activism so why delete them first?
Is she trying to quietly withdraw her support for certain organisations without generating a mighty backlash by covering her tracks like this? Wasn’t there an issue previously where she took heat for identifying as queer and then getting a boyfriend - did some of her recent vituperation/activism come as an appeasement for that?

Some kind of legal action(s) brewing seems likely. And overdue.

Doesn’t she usually do ‘well you are all just horrid - I have a broken finger nail don’t you know 😭😭😭’ then flounce off twitter for a while to the cries of ‘you are are Queen’ and ‘don’t let the haterz get to you babe’ ‘you are wonderful’ etc? Or is that someone else I’m thinking of?

They’ve just ‘discovered’ that they aren’t reversible. Well, who’d’ve thunk it? Who knew? Why didn’t anyone say anything?

Ah ok, thank you!

And her being cliquey explains a lot.

Mermaids have handily put a reminder on their website of the Instagram story jameela would rather the internet forgot. Thanks, mermaids 👍
Also given Jameela warns about the negative (but probably temporary) effects that diet pills have on under 18s (using her alternative organisation /moniker @iweigh), do you not think she would extend the same caution to advising children to take pills that derail puberty so that they may never become a fully functioning adult? 🤔

BTW I don't think we need to do a personality dissection of their backgrounds and become the "mean girls" ourselves - it's just really unnecessary. They put their support out there without considering the weight of the topic and now light is being shone to show the truth.

They backed a sparkly horse. They are not stupid (or at least have access to people who are smart) or people who advise them. They also have a brain.

Oh yes - the Marilyn Monroe ikkle girls voice. I hear that more often these days (and not from girls - ikkle or otherwise).

A very pithy phrase, indeed, Serenity...I shall borrow that, if you don't mind?

Full page on her iweigh website detailing Mermaids "great work". She's going to have to try harder to erase this stuff! Quick Google and it's all there. I'm not saying "be nice" I'm just saying we don't have to say a lot, just air the facts, as she's hung herself out to dry.

I feel a bit sorry for Josie Long.

I used to listen to Book Shambles with her and Robin Ince, but it grates on me as for all she likes to aspire to being a vocal feminist and he likes to make himself out to be such a supporter of women there was a clear difference when he spoke to (or over) JL than when he chatted with male guests. And JL seemed to accept this as if this was the natural order of things. It all felt a bit like “run, Josie! Get away while you can!”

Is have loved her to say “just shut up Robin and let me tell it”.

on the plus side, yesterday Jameela promoted a petition against Somalian women and girls losing their rights of protection against sexual offences without any comment on the 'non-inclusive' language being used to refer to the women and girls. Progress?
I found the 'I spoke to a real doctor' video though - it is still up. Jameela seemed to do most of the talking though.
